We are going to leave from Heathrow Airport at 7 a.m. and we are coming home on Sunday at 5 p.m. The ticket costs 99! Interested? Write your name on the list in reception. PAPER 2 LISTENING This is the Key English Test. Paper 2. Listening. Mock Test. There are five parts to the Listening Paper. Parts One, Two, Three, Four and Five. Look at the instructions for Part One. You will hear five short conversations. You will hear each conversation twice. There is one question for each conversation. For questions 1-5, put a tick near the right answer. Here is an example: What time is it? WOMAN: Excuse me, can you tell me the time? MAN: Yes, it s nine o clock. WOMAN: Thank you. MAN: You re welcome. The answer is nine o clock, so there is a tick in the box C. Now we are ready to start. Look at question one. PART 1 page 46 1A 2C 3A 4A 5C Question one: How does the man travel to London? MAN: I have to go to London next Tuesday and I don t want to drive. OLD MAN: Would you like to go by coach or train? MAN: That depends. How much does it cost by train? OLD MAN: It s more expensive than the coach. By coach it s only MAN: Right. I ll go by coach then! Question two: When are John and Mary going on holiday? MARY: Darling. We really must go to the travel agency and book our holiday. JOHN: Yes. You re right. July s always a very popular time for holidays. MARY: Yes. Especially from 15 th to 30 th. T01 59

JANET: I m going running tomorrow morning. Do you want to come? FRANK: I can t. My lessons start at half past nine. JANET: Why don t we go early? FRANK: I d love to, but I have to be at university by 8.20 and no later. This is the end of Part One. PART 2 page 47 6E 7F 8B 9G 10D Listen to Rachel talking to Caroline about the shopping she did on Saturday. She went to six shops. What did she buy in these shops? For questions 6-10, write a letter, A-H, next to each activity. T02 What did you do on Saturday, Rachel? I spent all day shopping. First of all, I bought some fruit from the greengrocer s. Then I had to get some bread, so I went to the baker s. Did you go into that new boutique next to the baker s? Yes, that s where I spent most of my time. I saw some lovely clothes, trousers and jackets and I bought a really nice, blue dress. I nearly bought the jacket, too, but it was too expensive. Then, where did you go? I took a film that I wanted to be developed into the chemist s. And I bought some more films for my camera. Did you get anything for your mum s birthday? Yes, I went into the department store Bridges where I saw lots of different perfumes and I had a look at their earrings in the jewellery department, too. But in the end I got her a bottle of perfume. Did you get anything else? Yes. On my way home I went into the record shop and I bought a CD. Well! You certainly did have a good day s shopping. This is the end of Part Two. They fall in love, get married and go to live in the United States where they have two children. Anyway, the children grow up 60

Well, a photographer stops outside the woman s house and asks directions to a famous bridge that he wants to take some photos of. The woman isn t very good at giving directions, so she decides to show him the way personally. Really? Yes, and then they get to know each other and fall desperately in love. Then what happens? I m not going to tell you anymore. You can go and get the film from the video shop if you really want to know what happens. This is the end of Part Three. PART 4 page Roberts 17 Sarah Scott 18 Scotland (a month) 20 Tomorrow, T04 You will hear Sarah talking to a travel agent about her summer holidays. SARAH: This is Sarah Scott. I m phoning about a cottage I d like to rent in Scotland this July. TRAVEL AGENT: Yes. What about it? SARAH: Well, could you tell me more about it? TRAVEL AGENT: Yes, it s got three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and downstairs there s the kitchen, a large sitting room with an open fire and a smaller bathroom. SARAH: Is there a garage? TRAVEL AGENT: No, I m afraid there isn t. But you can park your car on the road outside the cottage. It s a very quiet area. SARAH: I see. And has it got a garden? TRAVEL AGENT: Yes, there are two gardens; a small one at the front and a larger one at the back of the house. SARAH: I see, and how much does the cottage cost? TRAVEL AGENT: The rent s 500 a month. SARAH: 500! That s quite expensive. Anyway, I think I ll have to come round to your agency tomorrow so that I can discuss it in more detail with Mr Roberts. TRAVEL AGENT: What time do you intend to come? SARAH: At TRAVEL AGENT: Okay. I ll tell Mr Roberts when he gets back. SARAH: Okay. Thank you very much. Goodbye. TRAVEL AGENT: Goodbye. This is the end of Part Four. PART 5 page , Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (a month) th September / 15 th December You will hear some information about evening classes. Listen and complete questions T05 Thank you for calling St Patrick s School for Language and Literature. This is a recorded message. There are classes every evening from 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. and you have to be over eighteen years old to attend them. We hold English and Spanish language classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30 to 8.30 in the evening for beginners and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.00 to 9.30 for more advanced students. These classes cost 80 per person per month. We also run English literature classes for those of you who are interested. These are on Friday evenings from 7 o clock to 9 o clock and cost 35 per person per month. The maximum number of students per class is twelve. The next set of classes starts on September 15 th and finishes on December 15 th. Please, leave your name and telephone number after the tone and we will return your call. Sub-tasks Spelling and numbers. Examiner frame The examiner addresses both candidates and could ask any of the following questions. 1. Greetings and introductions Good morning/afternoon/evening. I m..., and this is.... He/She will just listen to us. Now, what s your name? Thank you. And your name? Thanks. And what s your surname? And how do you spell that? Thank you. 2. Giving information about place of origin, occupation & studies Where do you come from? Do you go to school in...? What subjects do you study? What subjects do you like best? Why? 3. Other personal information What do you do in your free time? Why do you like...? How often do you...? Did you go on holiday last year? What did you think of (name of place)? How did you travel there? How long did it take? Have you been to any other countries? What are you going to do this weekend? 4. Extended response Tell me something about your hobbies. Assessment The task is achieved if both candidates are able to respond to the examiner s questions. Time About 5-6 minutes (including time to assimilate information). PART 2 page 52 Tasks Asking and answering questions about factual information of a non-personal kind, using prompt cards. In the next part you are going to talk to each other. Marco (candidate A), here is some information about an activity weekend. Roberto (candidate B), you don t know anything about the weekend, so ask Marco some questions about it. Use these words to help you. Do you understand? The examiner repeats the instructions if necessary. Now Roberto, ask Marco your questions about the activity weekend, and Marco, you answer them.
