1 Questions Criteria Progress (2016/17) Impact Does your school have a vision for PE and school sport? There is a clear vision statement included in the school s aims that recognises the value and impact of high quality PE and school sport which pupils and parents understand and have contributed to. PE page on the website sharing a statement about PE. Statement about our PE provision can be found in the school prospectus. PE page of website has encouraged the celebration of children s achievement raising the profile of PE. Parents have commented on their joy at being able to share in their children s sporting Does your PE and sport provision contribute to overall school improvement? The context of sport is used across the curriculum and the skills and positive values of sport are integrated into the school ethos. A variety of PE cross-curricular displays can be found around the school linking PE to English, art, PSHE etc. Reluctant readers have been encouraged to read more due to purchase of non-fiction sport books for library. PE and sport are used to engage the wider community and foster positive relationships with other schools. We take part in festivals with other schools eg. dance festival and multi-skills festival. Network membership 2995) Children have been given the opportunity to perform and share their dance with other schools. We have started a Running Club to lead up to the Cheltenham Half Marathon School s Challenge. 50 children have taken part in the Cheltenham Half Marathon School s Challenge. We organise and run a Pre- School Sports Morning for all our main feeder preschool providers. The transition from pre-schools to Reception has been aided through the use of sport.
2 Do you have strong leadership and management of PE and school sport? There is a detailed PE development plan with short and long term targets that enable all pupils (including target groups) to progress and achieve. PE is the Large time priority in SDP. Subject monitoring takes place and pupils are interviewed about PE twice a year. Higher focus on PE has resulted in higher quality teaching. All pupils of all abilities make progress in each lesson. (Lesson Study & Performance Management) The PE co-ordinator is highly skilled, able to motivate staff and has the support of the headteacher, staff, governors, pupils and parents. PE coordinator attends all relevant courses available. Network membership 2995) PE coordinator is very well informed and disseminates to staff regularly. PE coordinator has presented the SSP budget to governors. Staff and governors are informed of progress in PE and our aims for the future. PE coordinator is member of Cheltenham School Sports Network steering group. Staff regularly participate in CPD relevant to high quality PE. Large amount of PE CPD is taking place for all staff across many different aspects of sport & PE. Network membership 2995) The CPD has had a direct improvement on teaching standards. (performance management observations) All staff complete an evaluation of CPDs attended outlining the impact on their practice. Staff audit shows a great improvement in confidence when teaching gymnastics and managing equipment. Do you provide a broad, rich and engaging PE curriculum? The PE curriculum is diverse, providing pupils with the confidence to try new activities as well as enhancing their existing skills in a diverse range of environments. The Lancashire PE scheme has been adopted across the school. The revised planning has a higher focus on competitive team sports and the development of the fundamental movement skills.
3 A sports coach forms part of Y2 creative afternoon. network membership 2995) The children have been coached by a highly skilled coach in a range of different sports. Our PE apprentice leads sports activities during lunchtimes. ( 3000) Children have the opportunities to practise their PE skills and begin to learn some tactics used in games during this time. There are opportunities for all pupils to develop their leadership, coaching and officiating skills. Year 2 children run stations for the Pre-School Sports morning Y2 playground buddies The use of AGT children to demonstrate skills has been a very successful way for children to support each other s learning and to encourage leadership. Our PE apprentice runs a playground leaders scheme. Year 2 children select Year R children to support ( 3000) Children have opportunities to demonstrate leadership skills. They are beginning to gain an understanding of officiating games etc. The more reserved children are growing in confidence during these sessions. All pupils receive two hours or more of timetabled high quality PE. This is achieved throughout all year groups. Pupils are higher achieving and healthier individuals due to the time spent in PE lessons. How good is the teaching and learning of PE in your school? All staff are confident and competent to deliver high quality PE and the quality of all lessons are good or outstanding. Staff have taken part in a wide of CPD. network membership 2995) Quality of teaching (particularly in gym) has been greatly improved.
4 All pupils make good progress which is clearly reported to parents or carers. Progress is assessed using classroom monitor and progress is reported in end of year reports. Parents are well informed of children s progress through their end of year report & EYFS profile. Assessment involves pupils fully and identifies and celebrates their Children s progress in the fundamental movement skills are assessed in all year groups. It is easier for teachers to spot gaps in teaching and children who require intervention groups or extending. Ability grouping is used across classes to ensure effective differentiation. Children of all abilities are being challenged and experiencing success in all PE lessons. Achievements of children are celebrated weekly in worship and on PE zone of website. Parents have commented on their joy at being able to share in their children s sporting Are you providing high quality outcomes for young people through PE and school sport? All pupils are engaged, motivated, demonstrate a high level of understanding and skill and take some lead in high quality PE lessons. Pupils are motivated within PE lessons and show great progress by the end of Year 2. Our PE apprentice supports in lessons to give focussed support for lower ability and higher ability children. ( 3000) External coaches have commented on the high quality of children s skills. Behaviour is excellent across all PE lessons and pupils make decisions that challenge and inspire them even further. Teachers always ensure behaviour in PE is outstanding and all children are engaged and making progress. External coaches have commented on the high quality of children s exemplary behaviour.
5 All pupils consistently make healthy lifestyle choices. Health Week 2016 zumba, climbing wall etc (School Sports Premium 500) Health Week encouraged children to make healthy choices and to take part in exercise that might encourage less active children. Are you providing a rich, varied and inclusive school sport offer as an extension of the curriculum? All pupils are able to access a broad offer of school sport activities (as participants, leaders or organisers). Creative Afternoon offers a range of alternative sports, such as golf, and croquet.(included in School Sports network membership 2995) The use of coaches has increased the range of sports offered and up-skilled teachers. Fizzy Club is run in YR and KS1 for SEND children. Lower ability children have made considerable progress due to this intervention. Sports Club is available for all Y2 children and is inclusive of SEND children. Participation rates in school sports club have increased because of these clubs. We have started a Running Club to lead up to the Cheltenham Half Marathon School s Challenge. 50 children have taken part in the Cheltenham Half Marathon School s Challenge. Numerous young people represent the school and are part of community clubs that the school has links with. There are a very high percentage of children taking part in out-of-school sports clubs. The majority of children lead healthy active lives and have the opportunity to represent their local sports clubs. Any children who don t, have been identified and encouraged to join after-school clubs.
6 Pupils achievements are celebrated and shared with parents or carers. Children s sporting achievements are celebrated in a weekly worship and on the PE page of school website. Parents have commented on their joy at being able to share in their children s sporting PE twitter account shares children s Parents are able to follow the twitter account and share in children s Are all pupils provided with a range of opportunities to be physically active and do they understand how physical activity can help them to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle? The school has a clear physical activity policy which incorporates PE and school sport but also offers informal physical activity such as break-time activity. Strategies are in place so that pupils are consulted about the activities offered. The PE policy is reviewed every year. Lunchtime play now incorporates sports activity. (PE apprentice 3000) PE policy is up-to-date and relevant. Pupil monitoring has shown children are more active and enjoy lunchtimes more. There are less behaviour problems or first aid issues. Positive attitudes towards healthy and active lifestyles are encouraged among pupils and staff, and are extended to parents or carers. Forest School is offered to selected Y2 children. 8 focussed families have been involved in our Family Funs club. This club encourages families to do sports together in the club and at home. Forest School has encouraged children to be active and explore the outdoor environment. All parents commented on an improvement on time spent being physically active. Parents commented on the increase in confidence in their children. Does your school know how to effectively utilise the new PE and school sport funding? Budgets are monitored regularly enabling the school to see which elements of spend have the greatest and most sustainable impact. A budget has been completed by PE coordinator to ensure all funding is planned for and will have the most sustainable impact. The budget has ensured funding is planned for and has made the most effective impact possible. The budget has been shared with governors, staff and parents. All parties are in agreement that the budget is appropriate.
