They will also model and interpret data. This course includes the following topics: Linear functions, equations, graphs, and applications Radical equations Systems of linear equations Quadratic functions, equations, graphs, and applications Rational functions and graphs Composition of functions Exponential functions, equations, and graphs Inverse functions Logarithms, logarithmic functions and equations Textbook and supplies Course Textbook McDougal Littell, Advanced Mathematics Pre Calculus with Discrete Math and Data Analysis Carnegie Online Daily Class Materials: 1-1inch binder Page Dividers A good supply of Sharpened pencils TI -84/ TI-83 graphing Calculator(preferred) or Scientific Calculator Ruler Highlighter 2 Dry Erase Markers 1pack of Copier paper Pocket Folder (1 st Block- Red; 2 nd Block Blue; and 4 th Block Yellow

3 3 P age Evaluation PROCEDURES Remember that math is a building process. It also requires EFFORT. YOU must actively participate in order to succeed. Problems in math do not generally disappear, the longer you wait to ask for help the harder it will be to get caught up. You can be successful if you commit to doing your homework EVERY night, PARTICIPATE in class, STUDY for quizzes and tests, ASK for help, and COME IN for TUTORING if your questions cannot be answered during class. Remember I AM HERE TO HELP YOU. I. Homework and Classwork (10% of Quarter Grade)-Homework is important because it reinforces what was learned during class. Homework is given approximately 3 to 4 times per week and will be checked daily. Credit will not be given to answers only, nor for copying down questions. Problems with no work require a two sentence explanation as to why the problem was not worked out. Homework is valued as an A for completion, and F for incomplete or no turn in. II. Quizzes (20% of Quarter Grade)-Quizzes are used to assess various skills and information. Quiz grades consists of weekly skills evaluation, Weekly bell work grade, and Binder checks. III. IV. Tests (50% of Quarter Grade)- Tests are major grades and are given approximately 3 to 4 times per quarter. All tests are composed of those materials discussed during class and those materials given for homework. Project grades are considered Test grades. Quarter Exam (20% of Quarter Grade)- Quarter Exams are comprehensive and consists of all materials discussed each quarter. Quarter Exams will consist of all materials given during class and materials given for homework.

4 4 P age Policies and Procedures I. Before Entering the Classroom- In order to enter the classroom, the following requirements must be met: a. ALL Students must be dressed according to the SJH and District s Dress Code Policy and yes, all Students must wear their School ID. (No you cannot go down stairs to Student Services to get a Temp.) b. Students must show a Big Smile and enter quietly. II. III. IV. Entering The Classroom (5-10minutes) a. Enter the classroom quietly and collect your Bell work assignment. b. Students must sit in their assigned desk only unless instructed otherwise by Mrs. Alcorn. c. Complete the Bell Work Assignment and then turn in homework. d. Begin copying objectives from the designated area. e. All excuses should be given to Mrs. Alcornn at this time Tardy Policy a. Any tardy will be recorded. b. Students must be within the classroom to not be marked tardy. c. Any student tardy because of lunch must have a BLUE entrance slip to not be marked tardy Conduct a. Zero Tolerance for DISRESPECT and AGGRESSIVE behavior towards fellow CLASSMATES and STUDENTS. b. FOLLOW ALL RULES AND PROCEDURES V. Throwing away trash a. All trash must be thrown away at the end of the class period. b. Do not pitch waste into the trashcan. VI. Packing and Exiting a. The teacher dismisses the class b. No books, binders, or other materials should be left in the classroom c. Any student exiting the class without permission will be written up.

5 5 P age VII. Attendance a. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to find out what was missed and make it up. b. Missed homework due to an excused absence must be turned in on the next day. c. All excuses and SJ2 s must be turned into student services before school, during lunch, or after school but not during class time. VIII. Substitute a. The substitute must be respected at all times. b. Any student misbehaving during the presence of a substitute will be written up. IX. Online Communication a. The word netiquette is short for Internet Etiquette. You should be aware of the common rules of netiquette for the Web and employ a communication style that follows these guidelines. b. Blog topics should be treated at serious classroom discussions only. c. All Electronic communication between student and teacher shall be limited to Moodle accounts ONLY. X. Continued Learning in Extreme Emergencies a. Please check the district, school, and class websites for announcements and information concerning continued learning following an extreme emergency. b. It is the students responsibility to keep up with ALL assignments and announcements XI. XII. Incomplete Work a. If a student turns in inadequate or incomplete work (such as Binders, projects), he/she will NOT be given an F. He/She will be given an I for incomplete. b. The following is by school and parish policy: i. If an I is not made up, the report card grade will be an I. ii. If a student does not remove the I by completing the work adequately, the Final Grade will become an F. Thus, the student will fail the entire course- regardless of other grades. iii. The academic grade assigned to the incomplete work will be lowered according to the St. James Parish School System Pupil Progression Plan. Make Up Work- Students can only make up Tests, Quarter Exams and Quizzes. Make ups will be scheduled with Mrs. Alcorn and cannot be taken during class. Make Ups must be taken before school, after school, during lunch, or during the advisory period. Excuses are needed to make up any missed work.

6 6 P age XIII. Academic Dishonesty - Refer to the St. James Parish Student Policy Manuel. Mrs. Alcorn s Classroom Contract Students are aware of and are expected to abide by the established classroom rules. 1. I will speak respectfully to Mrs. Alcorn, my classmates, and other visitors. 2. I will raise my hand to be recognized. 3. I will be in my assigned desk and ready to work when the bell rings. 4. I will come prepared to contribute to the class discussions and my own learning every day. This means I will bring my homework, textbook, binder, paper, pencils and calculator to class daily. 5. I will conduct myself as a responsible young adult by keeping my hands, feet, and other objects to myself at all times. 6. I will stay seated at my desk unless instructed otherwise by Mrs. Alcorn. 7. I will refrain from holding personal conversations. 8. I will NOT bring food or drinks into the classroom at any time. 9. I will NOT use or take out my cell phone during class. 10. I will mind my own business. If a student CHOOSES to break a classroom rule, the following consequences will be enforced consistently: 1 st Offence: Verbal Warning 2 nd Offence: Punish Work (Failure to turn in punish work will automatically lead to step #3) 3 rd Offence: Parental Contact along with EXTRA punish work 4 th Offence: Pink Referral Slip FREQUENT VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC REFERRAL I am committed to maintaining a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to meaningful learning and I will consistently enforce all classroom rules and policies.
