1 PERATURAN DAN UNDANG-UNDANG PERTANDINGAN A. GOLDEN MATHS CHALLENGE (GMC) 1.1 Two participants from LS1 (LS1 1 and LS1 2) 1.2 Two participants from US1 (US1 1 and US1 2) 2. Questions and Reference Materials 2.1 Lower Secondary Level (LS) - Questions are based on Form 1 to Form 3 (Semester 1) syllabi 2.2 Upper Secondary Level (US) - Questions are based on Form 4 to Form 5 (Semester 1) Mathematics and Additional Mathematics syllabi 2.3 Scopes of Questions - Numbers, Shapes and Spaces, Relationships, General Knowledge (History of Mathematicians, Mathematics Discoveries and Puzzles) 3. Rules and Regulations 3.1 The hosting college will appoint 2 teachers as jury. 3.2 Participants will be provided with answering board and a score card. 3.3 Complete the score card with participant s details by using blue or black ballpoints pen only. 3.4 Participants are required to bring their own blue whiteboard marker pen, whiteboard (A4 size) and whiteboard duster to write and erase answers. 3.5 The usage of calculator is not allowed. 3.6 Participants have to bring their own stationery if necessary. 3.7 Write only one best answer on answering board. Participants who failed to do so will be eliminated. 3.8 Participants are required to report their attendance to GMC Secretariat and line up accordingly at least 20 minutes before the program starts. Failure to turn up/ late (in turning up) will result in deduction to group points. 3.9 Participants are not allowed to communicate before/ during the competition Participants will be seated on the floor and hear/read questions by a Quiz Master Questions will be read orally by a Quiz Master and will be screened to LCD. Upon permission by the Quiz Master, participants can answer the question by writing them clearly and as big as possible on the answering board Each participant will be given 70 seconds to answer each question. The bell will be rung once to indicate that time is up Participants need to display the answer immediately to judges after the bell stop ringing by holding up high the answering board to be judged by the judges. Changing the answer once it displayed/ late display may result in the participants being disqualified Helpers will distribute coloured cards to participants with correct answer Each question with correct answer will be given 1 card Participants are required to write their score on the score card by using only blue ballpoint pen The use of liquid paper/correction tape to change the score recorded is not allowed. 7
2 3.18 Changes on the score board should be approved by the jury and signed by any one of them Number of cards will present the score obtained by participants Participants are allowed to erase their answer once the helpers are back to their original position The duty of the jury is to identify the 10 th place to the champion. The jury will decide on any ambiguous answers given by the participants should they differ from the answers provided by the Quiz Master The decision of the panel is final. Score Phase 3 (Final Phase 2 Phase Participants need to answer 10 questions in this round A card will be given to participants who answer a question correctly. The cards represent the number of correct answers Participants who collect 6 or more cards will continue the competition to the next round. The others will be eliminated Eliminated participants are required to bring their score card along with coloured card they obtained as a proof and report to GMC Secretariat Answering board and trashed papers for working must be handed back to GMC Secretariat before leaving the counter Eliminated participants are then seated at the placed provided by secretariat (refer to hosting college GMC floor plan) Participants need to answer 10 more questions in this round A card will be given to participants who answer a question correctly. The cards represent the number of correct answers Participants who collect 7 or more cards will continue to the next round. The others will be eliminated Rules 3.27 to Rules 3.29 are required to follow The remaining participants are required to be re-seated to the front row Participants are asked to bring along the answering board, blue whiteboard marker pen, whiteboard duster, stationary set (if any) and score card to the new seating area and ready for the competition to start Helpers are shifted to the front row and help the jury to conduct the competition Score card must be placed in front of the participants and the jury can see them clearly from the place where they stand Helpers will record participants scores for this round. No coloured cards will be distributed for this round Total scores achieved by Participant 1 & 2 from each college (of GMC) are combined with total scores achieved by Participant 3 & 4 (of MGT) Group Scores 4. Prizes & Champion Certificates 4.1 Prize will be awarded to the individual & group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 4.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to individual Champion up to the 9 th runner up & group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. 8
3 B. MATHS GAMES TOURNAMENT (MGT) 1.1 Two participants from LS1 (LS1 3 and LS1 4) 1.2 Two participants from US1 (US1 3 and US1 3) 2. Questions and Reference Materials 2.1 Lower Secondary Level (LS) - Questions are based on Form 1 to Form 3 (Semester 1) syllabi 2.2 Upper Secondary Level (US) - Questions are based on Form 4 to Form 5 (Semester 1) Mathematics and Additional Mathematics syllabi 2.3 Scopes of Questions - Numbers - Shapes and Spaces - Relationships - General Knowledge (History of Mathematicians, Mathematics Discoveries and Puzzles) 3. Rules and Regulations 3.1 Participants have to bring their own stationery sets. 3.2 The use of liquid paper/correction tape on score card/answer sheet is not allowed. 3.3 The usage of calculator is not allowed. 3.4 Participants will be provided with 32 answer sheets (Size A6) to write their answers. Participants are advised to use the answer sheet wisely. 3.5 Participants will be tested 40 questions based on (2.1) and (2.2). 3.6 The Upper Secondary events and Lower Secondary events will be held at the same place but at a different time. 3.7 The hosting college will appoint 1 teacher for each room event as the jury. 3.8 There is only one round in this event (straight to final). 3.9 Participants are required to register and report their attendance to the MGT Secretariat at Room 1, 20 minutes before the competition start. Deduction from group points will be given to participants who failed to turn up/ late Each participant is given Room Number and Table Number by MGT Secretariat during registration Participants are then moved to the specific room event and to prepare for the competition Participants are not allowed to communicate before/during the competition Participants are required to complete the participant s details on each answer sheets Participant A is required to write participants details on the card for that table using blue ballpoint pen only. 9
4 3.15 The jury will distribute envelope of a set of questions (Question 1 to Question 40) to each table and read the rules and regulation of the competition The time allocated for the tournament is 2 hours Participant A from each table will pick a question (one from a set of questions at random) and read the question to the other participants from the same table The question is placed at the centre of the table so that other participants can re-read the question for confirmation Participant A will record the question he/she chooses on score card with X Participant A does not need to answer that question. Example: Participant A chooses Question 5 TABLE 1 CANDIDATE'S CODE VW US1 3 X WX US1 3 XY US1 3 YZ US1 3 ZV US1 3 VW US1 3 is Candidate s Code representing Participant A 3.21 Other participants at the same table with Participant A (for example: Table 1) will answer the question chosen by Participant A within 90 seconds The working and answer should be written clearly and neatly on the answer sheet Answer is to be written neatly in the answer space provided on the answer sheet given The bell will be rung once to stop the participant from answering the question Participants will hand over their answer sheet to Participant A as soon as possible Answer sheet received by Participant A will be placed accordingly during the process of collecting the answer sheets Participant A is given 20 seconds to mark other participants answer and give score to each sheet. 10
5 3.28 The score obtained by each participant are recorded on the score card. Example: Participant B hand over his/her answer sheet to Participant A followed by Participant E, Participant D and Participant C. Case 1: All participants answer Question 5 correctly. Case 2: Participant D answers Question 5 wrongly. 6 The score written: TABLE 1 CANDIDATE'S CODE VW US1 3 X WX US XY US1 3 5 YZ US1 3 0 ZV US1 3 7 VW US1 3 is Candidate s Code representing Participant A WX US1 3 represents Participant B and so on and so forth The answer sheets collected by Participant A is put back in Envelope Question 5 along with the question sheet The envelope labelled Question 5 is then handed to the helpers in charge Helpers will collect the tested envelope (labelled with Question Number) and hand in to the judge Judges are to act as the time keeper, invigilator, organizer and conductor of the competition in each room. Scores 3.33 Marks will be awarded according to the shortest time taken to answer a question and the question is answered correctly points are awarded to the first participant to submit the correct answer. The second will be awarded 7 points, the third, 5 points. The fourth will be awarded, 3 points If the participant s answer is wrong, 0 point will be awarded If the quickest participant submits the wrong answer, award 0 and the second quickest will have the chance to get 10 points if the answer given is correct In the next round, Participant B from each table will pick another number and read the question to Participant A, Participant C and Participant D. Refer to (3.17) until (3.32) The scores will be displayed on the board so that the participants and teams compete with each other The team with the highest score wins The decision of the panel is final. 4. Prizes & Champion Certificates 4.1 Prize will be awarded to the individual & group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 4.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to individual & group Champion up to the 3 rd runner up. 12

MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD (MOD) Olympiad Workshop 1.1 All US1 and LS1 students will be participating in this workshop. 1.2 Participants attendance in 6 workshops are compulsory. 1.3 Participants are categorized into Bongsu Category for LS1 participants and Muda Category for US1 participants. 1.4 The workshop for both categories will be held at different locations. Olympiad Competition 2.1 Two categories of competition; Bongsu for Form 1 to Form 3 students and Muda for Form 4 and Form 5 students. 2.2 The question format is as follows: Section A : 10 short questions Section B : 3 long questions 2.3 Time allocated is 2 hour and 30 minutes. 2.4 The competition will be judged by the judges and the result is final. 3. Prizes & Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the individual & group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to individual & group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. D. PROJECT OF MATHEMATICS (PMS) 1.1 All US2 students will be participating in this event. 2.1 The questions will be given on the day of the competition. 2.2 Questions are based on Mathematics SPM problems. Participants are required to solve the problems using as many Mathematical methods as possible. 2.3 The problems are required to be solved within 3 ½ hours. 2.4 Solutions/ methods to solve problems must be written on A4 papers and need to be submitted at the end of the session. 2.5 Participants need to choose only one best solution and present it in English to the judges in 10 minutes. 2.6 Presentation (the best solution) must be prepared on mahjong paper and submitted together with other solutions. 2.7 The top 8 teams will compete among themselves to the final round. 2.8 Graphic Calculator, Handphones and Computer are not allowed. 2.9 Please bring along at least three marker pens for your own usage. 3. Prizes & Champion Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. 13

PROJECT OF COMPUTER (PCR) 1.1 All LS2 students will be participating in this event. 2.1 The format of the questions are divided into two parts: 2.2 Part A: Objective Structure (100 questions) (a) 10 questions on concepts (b) 10 questions on Microsoft Word (c) 10 questions on Microsoft Power Point (d) 70 questions on Microsoft Excel 2.3 Candidates LS2 1, LS2 2 and LS2 3 will answer on a single answer sheet(s). 2.4 Discussion among group members are allowed. 2.5 Part B: Computer Project Task 2.6 Each MRSM has to bring along their own laptop and extension wire. 2.7 The questions will be given on the day of the competition. 2.8 Questions are based on the use of Microsoft Excel 2003 or Microsoft Excel Participants are required to use Microsoft Excel in daily life on the given data (for example: bill calculations, easy counting, PNG calculations for students, etc.). 2.9 The problems may involve sorting, ranking, analysing data and graphic representative data The problems are required to be solved within 2 hours (depending on the hosting college) The projects are assessed on the number, accuracy and functionality of task completed Each team has to ensure that there is no pre programmed files that might contribute to the completion of the tasks. 3. Prizes & Champion Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. 14

CALCULATOR OF GRAPHIC WORKSHOP AND COMPETITION (CGC) 1.1 All US2 students will be participating in this event. 2.1 A workshop will be held for teachers and students. 2.2 Students attendance are compulsory. 2.3 Participants need to bring their own graphic calculator. 2.4 Participants need to use graphic calculator to answer the questions. 2.5 Type of calculator: TI Nspire CX (Version 4.4) 2.6 Neither stationery nor papers are required. 2.7 The questions will be given on the day of the competition. 3. Prizes & Champion Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the individual & group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will awarded to individual & group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. G. CALCULATOR OF SCIENTIFIC COMPETITION (CSC) 1.1 All LS2 students will be participating in this event. 2.1 Participants will be given 50 questions and they are allowed to answer at random. 2.2 Participants need to bring their own scientific calculator and stationery set. 2.3 Participants need to use scientific calculator to answer the questions. 2.4 Type of calculator: CASIO 570 MS. 2.5 No papers are required. 2.6 The time limit is 1 hour. 2.7 Question are based on Mathematics PT3 syllabi (until Semester 1 Form 3). 3. Prizes & Champion Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the individual & group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to individual & group Champion up to 3 rd runner up 15

KENKEN COMPETITION (KEN) 1.1 All LS2 and US2 students will be participating in this event. 2.1 This event consists of individual and team participations. 2.2 All participants have to complete 6 KenKen; Easy (2), Medium (2), Hard (2) within 1 Hour and 30 minutes. 2.3 All participants have to complete 3 3, 4 4, 5 5 and 6 6 puzzles. 3. Prizes & Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the individual & group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to individual & group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. I. OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED MATHEMATICAL EXPLORATION (OSME) 1.1 All LS2 and US2 students will be participating in this event. 2.1 All team will go through 8 stations and have to answer question provided at each station within allocated time. 2.2 There will be 5 or 6 teams placed at each station and each team needs to answer a question at station. Each team needs to complete answering all the questions at the respective station. 3. Prizes & Champion Certificates 3.1 Prize will be awarded to the group Champion up to 2 nd runner up. 3.2 Champion Certificate will be awarded to group Champion up to 3 rd runner up. 16
11 J. MATHEMATICS TRIVIA (RARA AVIS) 1. Poster Competition Theme: Cherish the Beauty of Calculation Each poster must be an original idea Paper size: A3 recommended 2. Potrait Competition Drawing a famous/ well-known Mathematician (European or Muslim Mathematician) The portrait must come with a brief description of Mathematician and his contributions. Paper size: A3 recommended 3. Maths Puzzles/ Games Activities Students must create any Mathematics games/ puzzles/ activities to encourage others to learn and love Mathematics NOTES: This RARA AVIS competition is NOT compulsory but all colleges are encouraged to participate. The marks for RARA AVIS competition will NOT be totalled with the overall marks calculation. The preparation to display the poster, potraits, or Maths games/ puzzles will be handled by each college respectively as the judging process will start on Saturday (15 th April 2017) at 9.00 a.m. The host college will only allocate places for the exhibition. The display board for every college will NOT be provided. Your creativity in decorating the place is much appreciated. 17
