4 Comprehensive Needs Assessment Demographics Demographics Summary (MCTC) is the central career school in Katy ISD Juniors and seniors from the seven high school campuses attend MCTC Our current student enrollment is 930 The data reported in our current Campus Improvement Plan is in comparison to our demographics from last year Our At-Risk student population remains the same as last year at 36% Our low income student population has increased from 35% to 47% The Limited English Proficient student population slighlty decreased from 37% to 26% Our Special Education enrollment remains steady at 8% The Gifted/Talented student population has increased from 7% to 11% The staff at (MCTC) places a high priority on recruiting and retaining a highly qualified teaching staff The employee turnover at MCTC this year is higher than usual do to retirement and program changes The district provides outstanding support to all new teachers Each August a New Teacher Academy is provided to the new teachers The topics that the teachers receive training on include instructional strategies, classroom management, and how to effectively integrate technology in their lessons Additionally, each campus has a Lead Mentor (Elizabeth Tucker) who also provides consistent support on these topics These topics are carried over to all teachers within their Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings The Instructional Coaches also provide instructional strategies scheduled throughout the year Common planning time is built into the master schedule which enables the teachers to meet both formally and informally on a consistent basis as plc's, with IC's, and with the classroom technology designer Demographics Strengths has many strengths Some of our most significant strengths include: Families move to Katy for our outstanding schools The popularity of the career programs at (MCTC) continues to rise as we consistently have wait lists in many of our programs Our student body is comprised of students from eight of the district's high schools Our campus demographics closely mirror the district's demographics MCTC is similar to a junior college atmosphere as students are from different schools The students enjoy making new friends from the other campuses The culture and climate is respectful with high standards for student achievement The strengths include: Generated by Plan4Learningcom 4 of 27

6 Student Academic Achievement Student Academic Achievement Summary (MCTC) does not receive an accountability rating All students are tested at their home campus The only End-of-Course subject taught at (MCTC) is US History The average score for the MCTC students in the Met/Satisfactory category for the school year was 996% CTE certifications summary: One difficult aspect for the CTE certification industry standard tests is not only are the tests difficult, some testing is an out-of-pocket expense Additionally, Cosmetology students can, and often do, test after graduation and the Pharmacy Tech students cannot test until after they graduate Pharmacy Tech, ASE, Cisco, ComptiA A+ exams are administered in the Pearson View Testing Lab on site Once the students leave our school, it is more difficult to motivate and track them in regards to taking and passing their certification tests Below are the CTE certification exam results: All Automotive Technology I students completed the S/P2 (safety, pollution, prevention) Certification with 100% pass rate in Automotive ASE student exam success rate results (10 different test) range from 8% to 35% pass rate Cisco - Each year the students have the opportunity to take the CompTIA A+ Essentials certification test This industry standard test is extremely difficult In Spring 2017, 19 Computer Maintenance students took this exam, 7 of which passed Part I Out of those 7 students, 2 passed Part II and are now certified 7 attempted the ICND1 exam for CCENT certification, but none were successful Eleven Cosmetology II students tested in and 100% of the students attempting the practical passed, 88% of the students who attempted the written exam passed, a total of eleven students received their license to practice However, once a students clocks their hours with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, they are banked for the students for a life time As a result, the students have the opportunity, and often take advantage of this opportunity, to complete hours not accumulated yet at either a junior college or a private beauty school The students can take their exams at any time during their senior year or thereafter once all clock hours are acquired Students in culinary and hospitality completed the ServSafe exam in with an overall pass rate of 46% This is also a very difficult exam There was 26 Pharmacy Tech students in who sat for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam and 14 passed (54%) The Pharmacy Technician certification exam is administered by the National Pharmacy Technician Board Student Academic Achievement Strengths Generated by Plan4Learningcom 6 of 27

8 School Processes & Programs School Processes & Programs Summary The Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment focus at is driven by the TEKS scope and sequence for both the CTE and core courses and the results of campus based assessments Additionally, the Katy ISD Cornerstones are an integral part of daily instructional practices and a major agenda topic at each CTE Advisory Council meeting The Cornerstones are: Collaboration, Communication, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Information Literacy, Problem Solving, and Social Contribution The CTE Advisory Council members have opportunities to provide input on relevant instructional topics to meet business and industry standards and expectations The most common instructional topic Advisory members recommend are the necessary "soft skills" students need to be successful in the workplace The soft skills most noted are interviewing skills, resume writing, professional dress, punctuality, and team work Student progress is consistently monitored and the district's Response to Intervention (RTI) process is implemented as needed The staff at (MCTC) places a high priority on recruiting and retaining a highly qualified teaching staff The employee turnover at MCTC is low each year The district provides outstanding support to all new teachers Each August a New Teacher Academy is provided to the new teachers The topics that the teachers receive training on include instructional strategies, classroom management, and how to effectively integrate technology in their lessons Additionally, each campus has a Lead Mentor who also provides consistent support on these topics These topics are carried over to all teachers within their Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings The Instructional Coaches also provide instructional strategies at each faculty meeting Common planning time is built into the master schedule which enables the teachers to meet both formally and informally on a consistent basis The parents, business partners, staff, and students at (MCTC) are very proud of our school and the state-of-the-art course offerings provided to the juniors and seniors in Katy ISD Our vision is to consistently provide a learning environment that incorporates cutting-edge industry standards with high academic expectations Our staff is dedicated to keeping students as the main focus for all decisions Consequently, student success is a top priority at MCTC When students do not learn, adjustments are made through our Response to Intervention (RTI) process including the campus Reteach/Re-do procedures The teachers value the common planning time they have with their PLC's The staff promotes an excellent standard for learning, a professional learning and working environment, and a strong commitment to student success The technology retrofit for (MCTC) occurred in December 2014 A retrofit at each campus in Katy ISD occurs every 6 years In 2014 all MCTC staff received new computers and printers as applicable Our copy machines are on a district retrofit/lease schedule as well We received a new copy machine in the library this school year and a new copier in the teacher's workroom in 2014 The technology-driven CTE courses at MCTC have state-of-the-art equipment relevant to industry standards Ninety-three percent (93%) of the MCTC students responded on the BrightBytes report from they are allowed to take home a school-owned mobile computer and 65% indicated that almost daily or weekly they are using a computer in the classroom (not all programs lend themselves to using a computer on a consistent basis) Additionally, the student body indicated 48% of teachers ask them to complete online assessments at least once a month and 56% of the students are required to solve problems using technology at least monthly Eighty percent (80%) of the MCTC teachers agreed they feel confident managing their classrooms where students are engaged with technology and the vast majority of the MCTC teachers believe technology enhances both learning and their daily lives Generated by Plan4Learningcom 8 of 27
