Changes to GCSE courses and assessment now places an even greater emphasis on preparation, note taking, revision and examination practice. Coursework has virtually disappeared from many subjects or will be assessed very differently. 9 Show My Homework For Parents Tapton School September The world's No. 1 online homework solution
What is Show my Homework Show My Homework is an online tool which allows students, parents/carers to see all set homework. Teachers publish homework on SMH and all tasks, resources and deadlines can be viewed by parents/carers and students.
Why are we moving to Show My Homework? 1. Two years ago we successfully trialled SMH with Year 12. We then trialled it with Years 10, 12 and 13. The feedback from parents and students has been on the whole very positive. 2. We recognise that it can be difficult to record all homework tasks and instructions in planners. It can be difficult to keep track of lots of different resources and pieces of paper. 3. SMH allows teachers to attach additional support materials such as lesson powerpoints to the homework task. This means you have everything you need to complete homework tasks and it saves printing out unnecessarily. 4. All tasks, resources and deadlines can be viewed by parents/carers and students. 5. The Show My Homework planner and app help students organise their time.
Q. Do PINs change? A. No PINs never change. In case a user forgets their username or password, they can use the PIN to reset login details as it remains the same. Q. My child has forgotten their password. A. A student s PIN can also be recovered through the linked parent account. Simply login to see a Recovery PIN for each child. See the highlighted boxes below:
Homework calendar Homework appears in the calendar as a block, stretching from the issue date to the due date.
Homework description In this view you can see a task s title and description, set and due dates and how it should be submitted. Helpful resources files & websites are displayed below the homework.
Setting up Multiple Accounts How do I view all of my children from my parent account? Log in to your existing account or sign up using one of the codes you received from the school. Next, go to Edit profile and use your additional parent code to link another student to your account.
Where can you find information about GCSE courses?

Increased importance of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Students need to write well. For all their GCSEs that have a written component there are now more marks available for SPaG. Y10 students should have literacy targets from KS3: specific personal areas that they need to work on. A list of their own problem spellings, a habit of using a dictionary and thesaurus regularly, aiming to use at least four different types of punctuation marks. Semi colons and colons are particularly important. There are KS3 homework booklets available on the Learning Platform of the school website: the Y9 one is particularly useful for catch up activities.
Increased importance of independent study Students will need to read their literature texts at home; they are all available on line. We would strongly encourage you to buy your child the texts so that your child has a copy at home. Students will be expected to access the resources on the MLE The school shop stocks the key revision texts and students are expected to revise outside of lesson time
The reading age for the English Language GCSE is now 16 years and 10 months!
The School Shop stocks these: Revision Guides Work Books Open Monday and Wednesday lunch pm
Y11: Really detailed revision guides for Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde and An Inspector Calls available for free on the MLE These are sample pages there are over 170 pages of activities! Learning platform Learning English KS4 Y11 How can I develop my learning?

Extra screen time 'hits GCSE grades (Cambridge University) Last year researchers at Cambridge University recorded the activities of more than year-olds and analysed their GCSE results at 16. Those spending an extra hour a day on screens saw a fall in GCSE results equivalent to two grades overall. The results also suggested extra time spent watching TV had the most detrimental effect on grades. Pupils who did an extra hour of homework and reading performed better than their peers. "Further research is needed to confirm this effect conclusively, but parents who are concerned about their child's GCSE grade might consider limiting his or her screen time."
