Visited multiple schools during the school year to see various devices, models, grade levels, etc. Selected the ipad as the device. Budget... Initial staff training prior to the end of the 2014 school year.

13 Student Learning Goals Using OneNote for students to track SLGs and evaluate themselves on a rubric Students have access to goals for the entire year and can monitor and reflect on their progress throughout the year Monthly reflection on goals - most difficult one, why, how to improve for next month

34 Managing Technology in MS Treat technology as part of the curriculum Technology won't fix management issues but it can make them worse Have a system in place for managing student passwords Don't assume the students know everything about the technology simply because they are younger Create a list of programs/commands that you will require students to use frequently and create a class binder of 'cheat sheets' (i.e. what printer do I send things to, what are the settings for a Word document, how do I save something OneDrive, etc.) Run through your first few tech-heavy lessons with a student device if at all possible Technology is constantly changing/updating, what worked today might not work tomorrow Avoid technology for the sake of technology Include the students as part of your tech journey Be consistent but flexible Things WILL go wrong, accept it, understand it, commit to keep moving forward!

35 Student Survey Data taken from a poll of 65 seventh graders: 85% of students had access to internet at home 44% felt that a major obstacle to using technology for school were the limits that school imposes (web filters/blocking/etc.) 31% felt that technology enhanced their academic life while 73% felt that technology enhanced their personal life 6% found it easy to get around school filters and blocks
