For more challenging Financial Aid problems, we will discuss building liaison relationships. Supporting Survivors: How to Respond to a Disclosure, Refer and Report Presented by Will Dewese and Megan Alpert This collaborative workshop combines expertise and experience from the Office of Equity and The Phoenix Center for a holistic conversation about what to do when someone shares a traumatic experience. What can you say in that moment to help? How can you help them access additional assistance? What assistance is available? When do you have to report it to the Office of Equity? How do you help them understand your reporting responsibilities? Wellness in the Works Presented by Amber Long Wellness is in the works at CU Denver. Examining the Transfer Student Experience Presented by Abby Muro

3 This workshop examines the transfer student experience through a variety of perspectives. We will begin with an overview of national and local transfer student trends, to interacting with transfer student professionals such as community college advisors and CU Denver transfer student champions. The goal of the workshop is to understand our transfer students needs before they transfer to us, in an effort to continue building support for them. COMMUNICATION A Practical Toolkit for Collaborating with our Faculty Colleagues

4 Presented by Angela VanDijk After years of working on student affairs teams, I found myself in a role that involved faculty meeting attendance, course planning, curriculum development and prepping for national accreditation. During my time as the only student affairs professional in an academic department, I designed a toolkit that I'm excited to share with my student affairs colleagues during this activity and discussion-heavy presentation. Team Up for Communication: Own Your Message, Your Plan, Your Success Presented by Marcia Neville *Please note that due to time constraints, the number of participants may be limited* This session will focus on promotional communications. How do we work together in our areas to create a collaborative message, identify our audience and then successfully execute the plan? After brainstorming best practices, we ll split up into four teams, develop a plan and design and create a flyer together. Afterwards, each team will "present" its product and the group will discuss. Positive Intent, Negative Impact. Traps of the Well-Meaning Student Affairs Professional Presented by Paul Rakowski As education professionals, we spend countless hours in meetings, at conferences and on strategic plans to ensure we are all utilizing the next Best Practice that support the needs of the students we serve. What happens though, when our support falls flat or worse, potentially harms our students capacity to succeed? Determining whether you are utilizing well-meaning versus developmentally informed methods is a good first step to ensure no harm practices. Baby Boomers, Gen-Xers, and Millennials: Appreciating Generational Diversity in Education Presented by Megan Thompson This presentation will define and review the characteristics of various generations of learners. It will discuss why these characteristics can positively/negatively affect the classroom or work environment. The presentation will also provide tips for working in a multigenerational environment. <no subject> and Other Poor Communication Choices Presented by Shawna McMahon How you communicate, especially in , can have a dramatic effect on how others respond and in turn, how effective you are at your work. In this workshop, we will use examples (real and fictitious) to examine what makes a good subject, greeting, body and signature in different contexts. TEAM BUILDING SESSIONS The team building sessions will all focus on Student Affairs personnel getting to know one another and the different ways we all contribute to the success of students and CU Denver. How do we promote everyone s strengths and also support and develop other areas? Paper Planes Presented by Melissa Connell and the CU Denver Ombuds Office The Marshmallow Challenge Presented by Megan Thompson Student Affairs and Team Building Presented by Shane Hoon
