5 Dear Parent or Guardian, Your child s school is now using ABC Reading Eggs as an important part of its literacy program. Your child will have 24-hour access to Reading Eggs through a unique username and password*. This means that students can work at their own pace and explore the Reading Eggs Library of ebooks, anywhere, anytime. About ABC Reading Eggs Reading Eggs is a web-based learning program that integrates home and school learning via the Internet. It is one of the world s leading education websites and can be accessed by your child on any computer or tablet device. As an online resource it is the next generation in learning, hundreds of fun lessons, comprehensive activities and almost 2,000 ebooks are just a click away. Accessing ABC Reading Eggs To access ABC Reading Eggs from home, all your child needs to do is visit and click the Login button, they can then login using their own user details. If you experience any difficulty logging in at home, please contact your child s teacher to ensure you have the correct Login and Password. 6 Kick-start your Trial! Click on Teachers Click Here at to register your trial. Enter your details (use your personal work address) Enter your unique school code. (Please contact us if you do not have your school code) You will be automatically signed into your teacher account. Adding Students and Getting Them Started Add students: Management > Manage Class > Add Students to your class. Enter the first and last name for each of your students. Print login details: Management > Manage Class > Login Details. Print and provide your students with their individual Login Details. For Younger Students - Teachers can log into the program on behalf of their students by using their Teacher Login, by clicking on Start Reading you will enter the Student Gateway. Each Student can then find their name/avatar and start eggsploring Reading Eggs independently. Your Demo Student Account You have unrestricted access to your own DEMO STUDENT. This is accessed through Student Gateway, Start Reading. This can be used to demonstrate and utilise the Student Centre with your class. Student Statistics Your students statistics are recorded for you to preview, print, export to excel and allow you to monitor your students progress. 6

7 Get your class started on Reading Eggs This suggested lesson plan is a quick guide to help you successfully launch Reading Eggs & Eggspress with your class. Each student must be added to the program and have their login details prior to launch. Each computer requires speakers or headphones. Typically, lessons run for minutes. Let s start by going to Before your students log in: Make sure you make an informed decision as to whether your students work in Reading Eggs (3-7 year olds) or Reading Eggspress (7-13 year olds). Students will encounter the choice upon sign in. Reading Eggs: Launch Lesson Plan MINS Login and Placement Ask your students to complete the placement test after logging in. Students will be presented with the placement test upon logging in for the first time MINS Creating your avatar Instruct your students to: Go to My Stuff > My Avatar MINS Begin Lesson Instruct the students to go to the below lesson area. My Lessons Students are guided through the interactive reading lessons and progress independently. Students are rewarded with eggs that can be spent in Reggie s shop. 8 Get your class started on Reading Eggspress This suggested lesson plan is a quick guide to help you successfully launch Reading Eggs & Eggspress with your class. Lessons, students begin their learning pathway either from Lesson 1, or the lesson determined by the placement test. Eggs learned in Lessons can be spent in The Mall. 9 TOP TIPS FOR USING READING EGGS Meet your Teacher Toolkit Interactive activities for each letter of the alphabet along with a host of classroom spelling activities perfect for projectors or Interactive Whiteboards. Teacher notes and student worksheets are perfect for printing. You will find worksheets that fit in with the Skills Bank Lessons, alongside resources covering a multitude of literacy concepts. Crack cross-curricula coverage The Reading Eggspress Library has more than 2,000 ebooks on its shelves. It spans quality literature, poetry and drama texts, as well as a wide range of informational texts on historic and topical world issues. This is perfect for covering any additional topics you may be teaching. Best of all, you can assign library books to individuals, groups or your whole class! Simple navigation and tablet-ready We know you want to take your students learning everywhere. That s why Reading Eggspress is fully tablet compatible! We have improved navigation to allow direct access to all learning areas, making the journey more straightforward and direct. 9

10 TOP TIPS FOR USING READING EGGS Flipped Classroom As a teacher, you can assign comprehension lessons or any Library book to your students through Manage Assignments in your teacher centre. This is a great opportunity for students to get a head start on a concept before class. For example, if you are planning a lesson on Oceans, assign the Oceans Comprehension Lesson or assign chapter 1 of the book for students to read for homework beforehand. Blended Learning Although online learning is fast becoming the new norm, we can t forget the importance and effectiveness of putting pen to paper. That s why Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress encourage a blended learning approach. The main learning pathways of Lessons for Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress are just the tip of the iceberg. There is a huge range of printable resources within the teacher centre, with book notes and worksheets for many library books and big books. Take your Reading Eggs journey offline for a truly blended learning approach. 10

11 My Lessons This is the heart of ABC Reading Eggs 120 reading lessons that travel through 12 exciting maps. Your students can repeat lessons to reinforce essential reading skills. Driving Test Centre This section consists of 45 tests covering sight words, phonics skills and content-area vocabulary. When your students get enough questions correct, they are rewarded with a racing car game. Skills Bank The Skills Bank includes 96 carefully graded spelling lessons to develop your students spelling skills in a progressive sequence. Story Factory The Story Factory provides a step-by-step guide to writing a story. Your students can choose their own illustrations, access word and sentence suggestions to help write their story and enter a weekly story writing competition. Storylands Storylands contains 20 lessons, 140 activities, 20 books and heaps of rewards! Perfect for the students who have mastered their ABC Reading Eggs lessons. Storylands eases students into comprehension style lessons before they progress to Reading Eggspress. Lower Primary Student Console 11.

12 English Skills The English Skills section includes 216 spelling lessons for years 1 to 6. Using a combination of videos, interactive activities, rewards-based games, and printable worksheets. Stadium Students practice their spelling, grammar and vocabulary fluency in timed games against different opponents at their year level from around the world. Lessons The 220 comprehension lessons cover years 1 to 6. There are 44 maps with a different focus book on each map, steadily increasing in difficulty and alternating between literature and non-fiction texts. Library The Reading Eggspress library has more than 2,000 reading levelled and Lexile levelled books for reading ages 5 to 12+ years. Titles include illustrated chapter books, full colour non-fiction books and a range of classics. Library books also include quizzes to test comprehension and give students the opportunity to earn Golden Eggs. Mall, Apartments, Trophy Room and Arcade Multiple reward option for different learner types, including an apartment to decorate, avatar clothing and a games arcade which can all be purchased with the Golden Eggs earned by completing lessons or quizzes in the Reading Eggs Library. 13 Preview Lessons Manage Assignments (Reading Eggspress only) Preview Lessons allows you to see what content the lesson will cover and download supplementary resources. Manage Assignments allows you to assign lessons or library books to individual students, groups or a whole class. You can also review results of completed assignments. Manage Lessons Manage lessons allows you to reset placement tests and review/change students current levels. Student Stats Student Stats will give you an overview of your class progress in Reading Eggs & Eggspress. Available in both whole class and individual student view. Teaching Resources Posters, powerpoint lessons, interactives and worksheets are all searchable and at your fingertips, makes lesson planning a breeze!
