6 The SDGs are A set of 17 goals for the world s future, through 2030 Backed up by a set of 169 detailed Targets Negotiated over a two-year period at the United Nations Agreed to by nearly all the world s nations, on 25 Sept 2015

7 What is new and different about the 17 SDGs? First, and most important, these Goals apply to every nation and every sector. Cities, businesses, schools, organizations, all are challenged to act. This is called Universality

8 Second, it is recognized that the Goals are all inter-connected, in a system. We cannot aim to achieve just one Goal. We must achieve them all. This is called Integration

9 And finally, it is widely recognized that achieving these Goals involves making very big, fundamental changes in how we live on Earth. This is called Transformation

10 We acknowledge also the importance of the regional and sub-regional dimensions, regional economic integration and interconnectivity in sustainable development. Regional and subregional frameworks can facilitate the effective translation of sustainable development policies into concrete action at national level. (2030 Agenda) Regions

11 Warsaw Declaration, June Decide to elaborate an Action Plan of cooperative and synergistic work on sustainable development "Baltic 2030" that will identify the thematic areas and collaborative actions where complementary or supplemental dialogues are needed; - Call upon the CBSS Expert Group on Sustainable Development, noting its new Mandate, to elaborate an Action Plan, with the support of all relevant CBSS networks and other BSR stakeholders and actors, bearing in mind that this action plan is likely to be updated during the implementation of the 2030 Agenda (Baltic 2030: Renewing the Commitment to Sustainable Development in the Baltic Sea Region)
