3 FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR AND PRESIDENT Welcome to Charles Darwin University Whether you are just starting out with us or returning to continue your studies, I wish you a very warm welcome to Charles Darwin University. For some of you this will be your first Orientation Week and it marks the start of your life as a university student. Your time at university represents an important chapter in your life; one that will deliver new experiences and new friends, and prepare you for facing future challenges. You are part of a supportive community in a very special part of the world. Orientation Week is about helping you become comfortable with the university environment and expectations for the year ahead. I hope you will participate in as many of the week s events as possible and, importantly, have some fun! There is no doubt that university will stretch you at times, and so it should. Our willing staff and numerous student support services are here to provide every possible assistance if things get tough. Please know it is okay to ask for help if you feel you need it. Students will also have the chance to learn more about the School of Indigenous Knowledges and Public Policy (SIKPP) and available Indigenous knowledge elective units that contribute towards their degrees. Online learning is an important part of many study units at CDU, so understanding what Learnline is, and how to use it, is critical. What is employability and how do I get it? Learn what employers are looking for in a graduate and what you can do during your time at university to increase your employability. Students will get hands-on experience using the search tool and will be guided on the most effective way to use it for their assignment preparation.
