3 FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR AND PRESIDENT Welcome to Charles Darwin University Whether you are just starting out with us or returning to continue your studies, I wish you a very warm welcome to Charles Darwin University. For some of you this will be your first Orientation Week and it marks the start of your life as a university student. Your time at university represents an important chapter in your life; one that will deliver new experiences and new friends, and prepare you for facing future challenges. You are part of a supportive community in a very special part of the world. Orientation Week is about helping you become comfortable with the university environment and expectations for the year ahead. I hope you will participate in as many of the week s events as possible and, importantly, have some fun! There is no doubt that university will stretch you at times, and so it should. Our willing staff and numerous student support services are here to provide every possible assistance if things get tough. Please know it is okay to ask for help if you feel you need it. Students will get hands-on experience using the search tool and will be guided on the most effective way to use it for their assignment preparation. Kick start your university study by attending a Library 101 session. Discover what the library has to offer, check out our ebook titles, learn about our drop-in service, find your Liaison Librarian and relevant subject Libguides, and discover Summon and the CDU Library s referencing guides. TOURS Campus Tours International House Darwin Tour Library Tour Take a guided tour of the campus and facilities including the Chinese and Indonesian gardens, cafeteria, coffee shops and more. IHD offers a community, not just a place to live. Our nationally recognised events program aims to ensure that you get the most out of university life.
