1 NLP: Communication Technology for Human Change LEADERSHIP and COACHING PROGRAM Ultimately, the leaders should be able to translate knowledge into action. Theoretical Basis Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is based from the identification of successful patterns underlying practical psychology, psychotherapy, and linguistics. The historical beginnings and study of NLP directly resulted to a process of discovering patterns of excellence in any field (a modeling process) and as an effective system of thinking and communicating used by excellent people. In practical terms, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) ultimately means the study of what works in THINKING, LANGUAGE, and BEHAVIOR in getting one s stated outcomes. NLP-based coaches understand how the clients view the world, and thus, adapt his language in a more precise manner to help the clients achieve his/her goal. Objectives: At the end of the 5-Day NLP Coaching, the participants will be able to: Generate internal (and external) resources in the pursuit of one s stated goals Manage one s emotional state to fully deal with the situation at hand Acquire and practice identified NLP-based assumptions that are needed for resultsbased actions and premised on the following core mindsets: 1. ORIENTATION TOWARDS OUTCOMES rather than Problems 2. Asks more of HOW rather than WHY 3. FEEDBACK versus FAILURE 4. POSSIBILITIES rather than NECESSITIES 5. CURIOSITY and FASCINATION rather than making ASSUMPTIONS Have clear indicators that they have or are well on the way of achieving their stated work-related goals given at the start of the coaching program
2 The Focus of the Training: LEADERSHIP THROUGH NLP COACHING When is NLP-based coaching used? Context Discarding unproductive habits and adapting and sustaining new ones NLP-Based Coaching Process The Coach helps the client understand what keeps the habit in place, points out options for changes, and helps the client take a new road and persists on continuing that new road (new habit). NLP Process: Beliefs and Values Clarification; Awareness of patterns of thinking and behaving and strategizing (one s way of seeing and dealing with the world); Visualization and Anchoring; Modeling; Using TOTE (Test-Operate-Test-Exit). Goal-Setting (this could take many forms such as simple goals like setting a quota for the quarter; providing feedback to a subordinate that results to a win-win outcome; acquiring new skills related to one s work and productivity; providing clear communication; or even long term ones like strategic goals or career development plan, others) Helps client focus and get clear on what he/she really wants and how to achieve it; being aware of one s values and its influence in achieving one s stated goals; and challenging and overcoming limiting beliefs that hold back the client in achieving his stated goals. The coach journeys with the client from the Present State to the Desired Outcome, and identifying benchmarks of success along the way. NLP Process: NLP Conversational Frames; 6-Step Goal Achieving Strategy; Visualization, Imaging, and Anchoring. State Management State Management starts with the coach helping the client identify what inner resources he/she wants to access and use in a given situation resulting to better outcome. Examples of inner states include the following: confidence, action, trust, competence, relaxed state, serenity, grateful, authoritative, acceptance, inspiration, etc. NLP Process: NLP Conversational Frames, Visualization and Imaging, Anchoring, Test-Operate-Test-Exit (TOTE).
