1 LEEDS COLLEGE OF BUILDING JOB DESCRIPTION Post Title: Reporting to: Responsible for: RETENTION STRATEGY CO-ORDINATOR Quality Improvement Manager N/A Main purpose of job: To research, initiate, develop and facilitate strategies to improve student retention within the College and further help students meet their full potential / progression. Responsibilities 1 To analyse current student retention data information considering reasons / factors for students leaving in order to inform future decision making. 2 To fully investigate and proactively consult, utilising a variety of methods, with all relevant individuals / groups (i.e. students, employers, parents, teaching staff, Student Services etc.) to determine student needs / issues / reasons for leaving. 3 To monitor and evaluate the existing Retention Improvement Action Plan and develop and implement any changes as appropriate. 4 To investigate best practice in relation to student retention by researching available data across the Education Sector by contacting other providers / organisations as appropriate. 5 To Chair a working party on Retention in order to formulate a cross College Retention Strategy. 6 To fully evaluate any relevant data that affects the student experience pre entry to the College, whilst on programme, and on exit including liaising as necessary with Marketing, Admissions & Student Services staff. 7 To facilitate the sharing of best practice across Faculties and Business Support areas which will improve retention. 8 To assess the various support mechanisms available to students to ascertain the effect this has on student retention. 9 To liaise with the College Data Information Services (DIS) Team to maximise the use of existing software / systems to support the improvement of College retention rates. 10 To assess current Key Performance Indicators to ensure they are appropriate and achievable by closely working with Assistant Faculty Managers, Course Team Managers and lecturers. 11 To investigate and recommend potential strategies to improve retention, building upon any existing good practice.

2 12 To proactively facilitate retention improvement strategies throughout the College which will yield higher Success Rates. 13 To support the promotion of retained learners through appropriate progression. 14 To write and present regular retention reports to the Quality Improvement Manager, Quality Committee and Senior Management Team. 15 To be aware of and abide by the College health and safety procedures and associated polices. 16 To proactively implement the College s policies and procedures. 17 To perform any other relevant duty that the Principal may reasonably require. This job description will be reviewed annually as part of a process of performance review. 3 PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION POST: RETENTION STRATEGY CO-ORDINATOR ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW IDENTIFIED RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Experience of working in Education or a related Sector. Experience of gathering information, analysing data and producing reports. Experience of co-ordinating projects. Experience working with a wide range of individuals/ groups and co-ordinating views/ EDUCATION & TRAINING SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS opinions. Educated to HNC Level or equivalent Educated to degree Level or equivalent Proof of Certificates at Knowledge and understanding of issues facing students. Awareness of the potential barriers to students engaging in learning. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentational skills, both written and oral. Ability to interpret data and produce reports. Ability to project manage and deliver objectives. Effective organisational / administration skills. Very good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages. Knowledge and understanding of the FE Sector. Knowledge and understanding of the Construction Industry. Knowledge of the support mechanisms available to students.
