Connect Access: Connect Registration: Calculator: Prerequisite: Course Objectives: Course Material: This course requires paid access to McGraw-Hill s Connect Finance. Connect Finance is an online homework management system containing questions tied directly to your textbook. Go to the web address displayed above. Enter your address. If you are a new user, you ll see two options. Either click to enter your access code (purchased via the Louisiana Tech Bookstore) OR Click to purchase access to Connect online. For online purchase, choose either: Connect, which does not include an ebook (choose this option if you have a new or used textbook) OR Connect Plus, which includes online access to an ebook. Fill out the registration form. Once you see this message, you can access your Connect homepage by clicking on Go To Connect Now. At your Connect homepage you can access your assignments, study center, grades, and other resources provided by your instructor. Start by clicking any of the assignment titles displayed on the list. A financial calculator is required for the course (I recommend a Hewlett-Packard 10BII or Texas Instrument BAII). There will be no sharing of calculators in the course. You will need a calculator for working examples and problems so bring it to each class. ACCT 202, ECON 202 or 215, MATH 125, and Junior Standing After completion of the course, the student will understand (at an introductory level) risk and return relationships, domestic securities markets, time value of money, security valuation, capital budgeting, and working capital management. In addition, they will be able to perform basic analyses of financial statements, solve simple time value of money problems, value traditional debt and equity securities, estimate costs of long and short term capital components, and analyze projects using capital budgeting techniques. Relevant announcements will be posted on Moodle. Please check it frequently for updates. 2 Warnings: Exams: There is a lot of material to be covered in this class. I cannot possibly cover all chapters in their entirety. Rather, I will discuss the more difficult material in class. Since I will often move rapidly through the material, you will benefit from attending class and reading the relevant material from the text prior to each class meeting. Complete the reading assignment even if you do not understand everything in the first pass through the material. After class (and before the next one) you should go back and review the material covered. This is the best way to improve your understanding of the material. There is no way you can do well in the class without working problems on your own as we cover the material in class. Virtually all the textbook problems in the assigned chapters are worthwhile. Waiting until the week before an exam to start practicing problems is an almost certain road to an F. All exams will be held during class time. Exams are closed book. They will include, but not limited to, a combination of multiple choice, true/false, problem, and shortanswer/essay questions. There will be no make-up exams. It is your responsibility to attend all exams at the scheduled time. The exams will emphasize not how well you have memorized solutions to the problems you have seen, but rather how well you understand and apply general principles to new situations. Bear this in mind as you study. Homework: Quizzes: Attendance: Homework assignment will be administered via Connect and are due 15 minutes prior to the start of class. There will be approximately one homework assignment per chapter. There is no time limit and you have an unlimited number of attempts. All answers/solutions will be released after the due date, unless otherwise stated in the course schedule. Regardless of the reason, late homework assignments will not be accepted. There will be approximately one in-class quiz for each chapter. Regardless of the reason for missing a quiz, make-up quizzes will not be given to anyone for any reason. I will drop your lowest quiz score when calculating your quiz average. Class attendance is highly recommended. Some material covered in class will not be in the book. I will not re-teach material during my office hours that has been missed by students because of an absence. Grades: There will be three (3) exams in this course. There will be online homework and in class quizzes. 3 Scale: A >= 90% B 80% - 90% C 70% - 80% D 60%-70% F < 60% Students with Disabilities: Academic Dishonesty: Extended Campus Emergency: Students officially registered with the Office of Disable Student Services and requesting special accommodations for this class should contact the professor early in the term so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Students are expected to adhere to the Academic Honor Code established at Louisiana Tech University as discussed in the Louisiana Tech University Student Handbook. Students found guilty of committing acts of academic dishonesty will receive at least an F in the course and possible suspension from Louisiana Tech University. In the event of a campus-wide disaster that requires campus closure, this course will continue using Moodle. Students are expected to check Moodle for course communications and a revised schedule within 1 week after a campus closure.
