1 Unit Assessment Report - Four Column East Los Angeles College Academic Support - Writing Center Mission Statement: Our mission is to assist all students in all subjects to become more effective writers during any stage of the writing process by offering one-on-one tutoring and group workshops. We can help students understand assignments, organize, and revise papers. Step Two: Outcomes Academic Support - Writing Center - Written communication - Students will have a clearer understanding of the expectations of writing and/or a specific writing task Outcome Status: Active Students answered questions about classroom performance and about selfassesssment. Survey Benchmark: 80% of students will agree or strongly agree with questions. 08/02/ out of 626 (97%) students felt that the center assisted them in the completion of their assignment; 9 disagreed; 9 stated that the question was not applicable; this is an excellent result. B) 602 out of 626 felt (96 %) felt that the tutor assisted them in practicing skills they needed; 13 disagreed, and 11 felt that the question was not applicable. C) 120 out of 120 (100%) students who attended workshops felt that the tutor helped them understand the subject better. Assessment Results being Analyzed 05/24/ out of 150 (94%) students felt that the center assisted them in the completion of their assignment; 5 disagreed (3%); 4 stated that the question was not applicable (3%); this is an excellent result. 05/24/ Although there was a slight decrease in percentage of students who saw a direct link between the assistance at the center and successful completion of their assignment, the percentage of students who felt that they learned skills that they needed remained at 96%, and the percentage of students who felt that they understood the subject taught better remained at 97%. 05/21/ Overall, there was a random sample of 323 students. Out of 124 randomly chosen students, we measured the following responses for individual tutoring, and out of 200 students, we measured the following responses for workshops. 3 Academic Support - Writing Center - Personal Responsibility - Students will accept responsibility to seek appropriate assistance to improve their writing skills. That means that 37.5% of the students attended 3 or more workshops. 28 (23%) attended two workshops, and 47 (39%) attended one workshop. For individual tutoring sessions, 236 (40%) students out of 592 students had attended 7 or more sessions, 144 (24/%) attended 4-6 session, and 126 (21%) 2-3 sessions. Thus, 64% attended 4 or more sessions. 4 Workshops: Out of the 166 students who answered the question about how many workshops they had attended, 22 students attended seven or more workshops (13.3%), 3 students (1.8 %) 6 workshops, 17 (10.2) students 5 workshops, 32 students (19.3%) 4 workshops, and 26 (15.7%) three workshops. That means that 60% of the students attended 3 or more workshops. 27 (21%) attended two workshops, and 29 (23.5%) attended one workshop. For individual tutoring sessions, 167 (43.6%) students out of 383 students had attended 7 or more sessions, 86 (22.5/%) attended 4-6 session, and 125 (32%) 2-3 sessions.
