With offices in New York, London and Dubai -- and a network of partners stretching across the United States and around the world -- we believe that education is the foundation upon which all our futures are built, and everyday we seek to make that future brighter for all of us. A-List focuses on the individual needs of students and our comprehensive test prep program includes customized, one-on-one tutoring that takes a unique approach for each student, matching learning styles and motivation with the right educator. 4 The staff took the time to ask questions and learn about my child s individual needs so he could be paired with a tutor that would help him reach his highest potential Thank you again to our tutors and A-List for providing such a positive experience and for putting our concerns at ease during what is an intense and stressful time in a student s academic career. Mother of Chase B. (Syosset High School, 2014) SAT points

HIGHEST SCORE IMPROVEMENTS A-List s score improvements are better than any of our competitors as a result of our well-trained teachers, extensive materials, and on-going official practice tests. CUSTOMIZED PROGRAM From the very first time you contact A-List, we make your student s success our primary focus. Whether your student is a sports recruit or a dancer, a student leader or an avid gamer, our Client Manager helps families find the best-fit program for each student s needs. PERFECT TUTOR MATCH We pair students with tutors based on learning style, personality and academic background. We can schedule a free tutor meeting with no obligation, so you can make sure the person is a good match. SUPERIOR MATERIALS We write and research our own proprietary materials. A-List s SAT/ ACT Books of Knowledge are not only used by A-List students but also by schools and educators through our nonprofit partnerships and professional development programs.
7 GETTING STARTED EXPERTS IN OUR FIELD A-List is recognized as a test prep authority by schools, community-based organizations and educational nonprofits. We work directly with educators, administrators and nonprofit staff to teach the SAT and ACT and to run their own test prep programs. OFFICIAL PRACTICE EXAMS We host practice tests on weekends FREE for all of our clients. We do not write our own tests and only use real tests officially released from the College Board and ACT, Inc. We re happy to answer any questions and set up a no obligation session to meet a tutor. Contact us by phone at or by at info@ alisteducation.com. We make it our mission to find educators who can identify the strengths and weaknesses of students, adapt to particular learning styles, and push students to their academic potential. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with A-List! A-List was so supportive and helpful through every aspect of the stressful college admissions process. I got into my dream school, and A-List played an integral part of the achievement! Being able to take ample practice tests in a classroom setting much like that of the actual SAT/ACT helped me gain more test-taking confidence and made me feel very comfortable when it came time to take the real thing. Thank you so much for everything! Kanishka K. (Convent of the Sacred Heart, 2014) +440 SAT points, Columbia University, Class of 2018

I started off struggling with the SAT, but made a 490 point improvement! This was all due to my tutor s dedication and the weekly practice tests that were available. I then began taking the ACT, in which I made a 5 point improvement! A-List has not only told students about their success stories, but has made more and more every year. Casey S. (JFK Bellmore, 2014) +490 SAT points, +5 ACT points
9 SUCCESS STORIES A-List takes tremendous pride in seeing our students succeed. We do everything we can to ensure our students achieve great things not only on a test but also in their academic careers and wherever they choose to attend college. A-LIST BY THE NUMBERS: 97.3% of our clients are extremely satisfied with their experience, and many families return to the program with a younger sibling. A-List s top 25% of students average improvements of 350 points on the SAT and 6 points on the ACT more that 6x the national average. From Harvard to Lehigh to the University of Michigan, our students routinely are accepted to their top choice schools.
10 TUTORING FAQS I. BASIC PROGRAM Q: What does your program cover? A: Our personalized program covers all content and strategies of your selected exam. If a particular area is a weakness, we work to bolster that skill and maximize a student s score potential. Q: How long do you meet with students? A: The time your student spends with A-List will depend on his or her strengths, weaknesses, and determination. Most of our students average one-hour sessions (not including free practice exams). Our tutors are also equipped for shorter, more targeted preparation to focus on specific goals. Many of our students choose to start on the SAT/ACT and continue through subject tests, AP exams and college advising. Q: What is your average score improvement? A: Over the last 6 years, our hard-working students have improved an average of SAT points and 4-5 ACT points. This includes students from all starting points and is by no means an upper limit. Improvement on the SAT or ACT is highly dependent on the work put in by the student. We ve had extremely diligent students improve as much as 700 SAT points and 16 ACT points! II. TESTING Q: Should my student take the ACT or the SAT? A: Most of our students score comparably on the two exams, but sometimes we find that a particular test aligns better with a student s strengths. If you would like to get a sense of which test is a better fit, we suggest taking a diagnostic in both and reviewing the scores with our staff to decide on the best possible course. Many students choose to take both exams. Our SAT foundation skills also apply to the ACT, and all of our tutors are trained to teach both exams. Many students work on the SAT through the fall and winter and make a seamless transition to prepare for a spring ACT. Q: I heard the <insert month here> test is easier then the <insert month here> test. Is it true? A: Nope, that is not true. Both the ACT and the SAT go to painstaking lengths to ensure that each test is of the same measured difficulty. The number of seniors vs. juniors also makes no difference the curve isn t a normal curve like the tests you take in school. Q: When and how is the SAT changing? A: Starting in March 2016, the SAT will undergo significant changes: The scoring will range from with two sections total. The Reading and Writing sections will be combined into one section called Evidence-based Reading and Writing. Sentence completions will no longer appear on the test. English will be in passage form (as on the ACT).
11 Math will have one section where calculators are not permitted. The essay will now be optional. A-List is well positioned to adapt to the new test. Many of the changes in focus, such as finding evidence to support your answer on reading passage questions, are things that we ve already been doing with our students. We are in the process of updating our material to reflect these changes. III. PRACTICE TESTS Q: Do you offer practice tests? A: Yes and lots of them! We feel that in order to truly improve, students must practice strategies and techniques on real test questions. Free practice PSAT, SAT, and ACTs are offered in Manhasset, Plainview, Manhattan, and Westchester throughout the school year. In order to simulate the real test as closely as possible, we only give official tests released by the SAT and ACT companies. Q: Do we have to pay for practice tests? A: The cost of testing is included with tutoring. You can take unlimited practice tests while you work with us, but generally we ask our students to take one approximately every 3-4 weeks.
12 OUR TUTORS A-List tutors are enthusiastic and skilled educators. They are graduates from the best schools in the country, and attended continuous A-List trainings on our curriculum and approach to test preparation. Our tutors learn about the true value of a customized program and how to successfully implement that with each of his or her students. My favorite part of the year is winter / spring when my former students call me to let me know that they got into some of the best colleges in the country. I love seeing my students succeed, and I get great satisfaction when they reach their goals. Sherwyn Fullington, Harvard University Director of Test Prep and Admissions OUR TUTORS HAVE ATTENDED SOME OF THE BEST UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD, INCLUDING: Amherst, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Emory, Georgetown, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Middlebury, NYU, Stanford, UCLA, University of Miami, University of Wisconsin, and Yale.
13 The network of creative intellectuals that comprises the A-List team constantly inspires me to refine my craft and to approach each day with a new perspective. Michelle Castroverde Columbia University Tutoring is not so much test preparation as it is motivation and encouragement: helping students to see and actualize their potential. There is nothing more rewarding than to see my student s confidence grow after conquering a challenging question or topic. Azusa Ueno Yale University It s amazing what I ve seen my students accomplish. They all have it in them to do great things. What we provide is the understanding that they have that potential and then the push to use it. Chris Viemeister Johns Hopkins University I m not teaching just standardized testing. I m giving students tools to more quickly and accurately access the information they already know. Heather Lowe Columbia University
14 COLLEGE ADVISING SERVICES The college admission process does not stop after test prep. A-List is committed to guiding both students and parents through the often daunting college application process. A-List College Advisors have direct experience in admissions offices and are able to bring their insights to families applying to a range of colleges. Our college advising and essay services help students: Identify reach, target, and safety schools Brainstorm topics and edit essays Prioritize experiences for resumes and activity sheets Practice for on-campus and alumni interviews Prepare relevant questions for college tours My prior experience in the office of Admissions at Rice University and NYU made me realize that many students don t know how to put together a strong application. I love helping students select schools, brainstorm essay topics, and find ways to stand out from the crowd. Anna Marie Smith, Director of College Advising
