What is Dynamo trying to achieve? Basic problem solving with Dynamo Martin Coyne, BIM Manager
Dynamo The Back Story Appeared for public download around 2012 Initially heavily linked with Vasari development partly focused on concept development, linked with Vasari s analysis tool and the Revit massing engine Installed as plug-in Images Open-source project, heavily backed by Autodesk strong links between Revit development team and Dynamo team Rapid update and release cycle regular major builds released alongside daily builds for testing Dynamo 0.3.4
Dynamo The Back Story DesignScript starts as separate project after Dr. Robert Aish (of Generative Component fame) joins Autodesk Aish initiates a project to create a new programming language with AEC professionals in mind more focused than C#, Python, etc. Following the completion of the DesignScript development, it becomes fully embedded within Dynamo both within many nodes and available as a direct text input DesignScript Studio
Dynamo The Back Story Dynamo also supports Python input and node scripting Offers an alternative route in to the Dynamo API Allows you to easily add your own functionality to Revit both in terms of geometry creation, analysis and data management Python Node Sample Dynamo Primer
Dynamo The Community Project A real community project Share and download packages of custom nodes 200,000+ package downloads to date Interact directly with the development team and package authors via the Dynamo Forum Vast expansion of Revit s capability and beyond Nodes and packages allow direct interaction with Excel, Rhino, Grasshopper, Robot, Navisworks, and beyond!
Dynamo The Essential Packages Dynaworks Clockwork Mantis Shrimp Lunchbox Dynamo Unfold Optimo Rhythm
Dynamo Today Current build Latest functionality includes: o Ability to freeze nodes o Directly interact with points o Group nodes o Node to Code o Improved interface Images Fully embedded within Revit 2017 release Manage Ribbon > Visual Programming Tab View geometry directly in Revit Dynamo 0.3.4
Dynamo Sandbox vs. D4R Two builds available Dynamo4Revit (D4R) - traditionally installed as free add-in to Revit and other software Dynamo Studio standalone install, available on desktop subscription (or 90 day trial) for approx. 240/year Intended as design definition source across multiple software Revit, Robot structural analysis, Rhino, etc. Additional functionality over D4R, i.e. import and manipulate DWGs Growing functionality of Customizer share algorithms via the cloud with only sliders and geometry output available Send your model to your grandma in a way she can understand The Customizer Zach Kron
A Basic Routine 7 nodes simple but useful task
A Basic Routine Slight increase in complexity, package nodes (Sheet.Views+ from SpringNodes)
