1 Coaching, Officiating and Volunteering Awards 2014 Nomination Form The sportscotland Coaching, Officiating and Volunteering Awards 2014 provide the opportunity to thank coaches for their dedication and recognise their achievements. All nominations must clearly demonstrate why the contribution of the nominee should be recognised. You should take into account the given criteria below and provide clear evidence as to how the nominee has been: Creative in developing their skills Ensuring a high quality experience for their athletes, teams, schools and/or club and community Developing long-term opportunities for their athletes, teams, schools and/or club and community All nominations should be submitted by 19 th September This form should be completed online or ed to us by typing your information into the boxes provided and then ed COVawards@sportscotland.org.uk. 2 Coaching Awards 1. Young person s coach of the year This award will be made to a coach who has made an outstanding contribution to the introduction and early development of sport for young people under the age of 18. Evidence: Has delivered quality coaching in a safe environment Has contributed to the development of the basic skills of a young athlete or a young team Has created a safe, fun and nurturing environment for development Has demonstrated innovative practice in their coaching. 2. Community coach of the year This award will be made to a coach who has supported the development of athletes or teams, who are in the main over the age of 18, and has significantly increased the sporting opportunities available and participation levels within, their community. Evidence: Has delivered regular quality coaching sessions to a group or to individual athletes. Created a safe and enjoyable environment for participation. Has demonstrated innovative practice in their coaching. 3. Development coach of the year This award will be made to a coach who, by using a player-centred approach, has ensured that athletes or teams with emerging talent have made an impact at district, regional or national level. Evidence Has adopted a player-centred approach to coaching Has been responsible for identifying and nurturing talent in line with the sport s long term player development model Has coached athletes or teams who have made an impact at district, regional or national level which may include a significant improvement in performance, although not necessarily the winning of titles. 4. Performance coach of the year This award will be made to a coach working with athletes and teams at the highest level in their sport. The award looks for evidence of player-centred development leading to successful performance at the highest level of Scottish, UK or international sport. Evidence Has adopted a player-centred approach to coaching
3 Has made a difference to the performance of an athlete or team based on resources available to them Has coached athletes or teams who have delivered a successful performance at the highest level of Scottish, UK or international sport. 5. Young coach of the year This award will be made to a coach aged 25 years or younger in recognition of their achievements to date. This award looks for young coaches who have invested in their development as a coach and have made a significant impact on the people they coach. Evidence Has helped their athletes or teams reach their potential by dedicated support Has invested time and energy in their development as a coach, undertaking continuous professional development opportunities. Has demonstrated innovative practice in their coaching. 6. Disability coach of the year This award will be made to a coach working with people with a disability. The award looks for evidence of player-centred development leading to successful performance of athletes or teams with a disability. Evidence Has adopted a player-centred approach to coaching Has coached athletes or teams who have made an impact at district, regional or national level which may include a significant improvement in performance, although not necessarily the winning of titles.
4 Officiating Award 1. Technical official of the year This award recognises the hard work and dedication that referees, umpires and match officials and make to the competition structure in their sport. Evidence: Has demonstrated outstanding officiating commitment to their sport. Has officiated at either local, regional, national or international level. Has invested time and energy in their development as an official, undertaking continuous professional development opportunities. Has been an inspiration and positive role model for participants and peers.
5 Volunteering Awards 1. Volunteer of the year This award will be made to a volunteer aged 26 years or more who has made an outstanding contribution to their school or club, in recognition of their commitment this year. Evidence: Has worked in any aspect of their school/club without them, the school/club would not be the same. Has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in sport. Has been an inspiration and positive role model for participants and peers. 2. Young volunteer of the year This award will be made to a volunteer aged 25 years or under who has made an outstanding contribution to their school or club, in recognition of their commitment this year. Evidence: Has worked in any aspect of their school/club without them, the school/club would not be the same. Has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in sport. Has been an inspiration and positive role model for participants and peers. 3. Event volunteer 2014 This award will be made to a volunteer with an outstanding contribution of individual volunteer efforts during the hosting of a major sports event in Scotland in 2014 (over 16 years) Evidence: Contributed towards a major sports event and gone beyond expectations to ensure the event is a success Volunteered in any aspect of major event organisation and delivery Given up a substantial amount of time to the event Been an inspiration and role model to other volunteers
