3 What are the strengths of this course? * This course really took into account the future of students and any plans they may have. This was not a normal course with just a boring lecture and forgettable test, it made its students think about what they want to do with their lives. * The professor is very good * Great mix of discussion, lecture, guest speakers, other media. Instructor was adept in bringing real life experience, both as a former HR professional and now in a role in the Center for Work and Family, into the classroom. I never dreaded going to this class and the. hours flew by because he was so engaging. He challenges students but is reasonable with workload. * Although the course material was rather easy, Prof. Harrington made the classes interesting and lively. * It is well structured * Constant interaction with the students. Available PP slides beforehand to be able to take notes alongside the slides * even though the class is. hours. he presented the material in a way that was never borning. he broke up the lectures to ensure that students werent bored * guest speaker was very interesting; self-assessment assignments helped me learn more about my interests for possible career options; instructor had a great deal of experience in subject matter and gave many examples of his experiences; there was variety in course, i.e. power-points, group discussions, different types of assignments * He is enthusiastic about teaching and keeps the students involved. Even though it was a. hour class, it was never boring and he kept students attention the whole time. He chose out of class activities that were both pertinent to students majoring in HR and those who were not as well. It was definitely one of my favorite electives I have taken at BC. * HR Director of you assignments and paper, Strong Interest Inventory * The Self Assessment, HR Director of you, INC. It's essential for planning your future. * great teacher, made it entertaining * I liked the self assessment exercises, thought they were useful. * the HR director of you part, professor's anecdotes * -Instructor is very knowledgeable of the material and very enthusiastic. He was always very approchable and available as well. * Career path/trend dynamic, fosters good discussion * The instructor. * The course is structured around helping students focus their careers. Very helpful for students. * Sometimes the material could be a little dry, Professor Harrington was able to make the information interesting and relatable. He related a lot of the material to his experiences and stories on how he handled certain situations which made the material easier to remember. MB-9S-tx - Course Detail Report of 6
4 * showed a passion for his work and the real life assignments proved to be very useful to me * It's once a week and to the point. * well organized, explained everything very clearly * It stimulated intellectual thought about the matter, helped prepare students for real job experiences * Reflection and considerations about the future. * The instructor has a keen idea on the subject matter and was great at letting the students know exactly what he was talking about. * Made the. hour class go by quickly, material was interesting and relevant. Professor is very nice and approachable. * Prof. Harrington has extensive business place experience and is a tremendous teacher. * Professor Harrington is not only a great professor, but such a good guy. He is down to earth and really wants to see his students do well. The course taught me a great deal about the business world. The best part was of it in my opinion was the HR Director of You paper that we had to complete for the end of the semester because it tied all the activities we did in the semester together and really made us think about our future endeavors. How could the instructor improve the course? * sometimes power-points were too long/drawn-out * None * Try to choose a room where its easy to have the students all facing forward rather than having students on the side. It becomes easier for participation. * More emphasis on the self assessment exercises. They really help. * Have more group activities during class, and maybe a group presentation instead of test(s). * n/a * No suggestions. * I would have liked to spend a little more time thinking/writing about current HR issues. * Nothing, course was great * Sometimes the slides were a little dry but I think that was more a product of the material * In class, small group conversations were a little ineffective. The big group discussions yielded more input from more people. * Nothing, I really found this course interesting and very useful. * Nothing * No changes MB-9S-tx - Course Detail Report of 6
5 * I think Professor Harrington could make the course a bit more challenging---maybe having the midterm more difficult rather than just lettting kids memorize the material. * more guest speakers. i really like the woman who spoke on compensation * get rid of the HR from a textbook and just make it a career development course * Not sure the class was / hours so the material got boring at times * Nothing i can think of- very good course. * It's not a particularly interesting subject, but he does a good job in keeping it fresh as is. * Try to get the slides out ahead of time, or even all at the beginning of the semester so that we have time to print them. * Make it shorter., * let us have computers in the class room * Make it more dynamic Would you recommend this course to other students, majors etc.? Why or why not? * Yes its important for anyone that is going to be employed * yes, very valuable to gain more self awareness * yes- professor harrington was able to make class fun/ funny which not many professors can do- he talks about his family and doesn't take himself too seriously, he jokes around with students. One of my favorite courses at BC. * yes, very helpful to learn in many diffferent aspects * yes, great teacher and you can learn something very important. * Yes, the introspective work/life analysis is worth it. * yes, this class helps you discover a lot about HR and a lot about yourself. definitely a valuable class to take, particularly if you need direction in life * Yes I enjoyed this class very much and it wasn't much of a burden work wise * Yes %. You get a lot out of it and the classroom environment with Professor Harrington is friendly, energetic, and informative. * Yes, because it helps plan for the future and you learn about yourself. * Yes, if they are interested in Human Resources * yes, it was a great class and a great professor * I would definitely recommend this course to students, especially ones who don't know what they want to do when they're done with college. MB-9S-tx - Course Detail Report of 6
6 * Absolutely, I always recommend this course because of how it allows you to plan your future in a very creative way. * yes, its a very useful class * Yes. * Yes. It was a fun class to be in with the professor. * Definitely. It was one of my favorite classes at BC.
