1 School-2-College-2-Work School-2-College-Work is College In Colorado s new middle school component, designed to introduce middle school students to their options for school and work. The focus of this module is exploring different education paths and career possibilities, encouraging students to think about what might work for them down the road. Interactive features ensure students are exposed to all of the options by asking for feedback on each -- without any pressure to make firm decisions. Each page has built-in interactivity, middle-school friendly graphics and easy-to-read text. Accessing School-2-College-2-Work Middle school students can find the School-2-College-2-Work link on the index page of their portfolio: Link to the School-2-College-2 Work in a middle school portfolio Note: In portfolios not assigned to the middle school role, the link appears further down on the portfolio Index page. School-2-College-2-Work Activities School-2-College-2-Work offers middle school students three activities to explore their options for the future: 1. Directions After High School: Students review six possible paths they could take after graduating from high school and rate each path. New Middle School Activity 1

2 2. Career Clusters Map: Students discover the basic facts about all 16 Career Clusters and rate each cluster. 3. Career Cluster Survey: Students navigate directly to the Career Clusters Survey and can see their results here. Main School-2-College-2-Work page Directions After High School Students learn about six possible paths to take after they graduate: Two-Year College Four-Year College Career College or Technical College New Middle School Activity 2

Clicking on a path leads to a page of basic facts about the path. Many of the tiles have further information if the student points at the tile. Students rate the path on a scale of one to five stars. Once the path has been rated, it will be marked on the main page with the rating. New Middle School Activity 3

6 Career Clusters Map Goal: Learn more about each of the 16 Career Clusters and make a preliminary cluster selection. The Career Clusters Map activity functions in a similar way to the Directions After High School activity. Before students start, students should review the Learn More About Career Clusters and Pathways option. This gives a simple overview of the purpose of clusters and pathways in career exploration and planning, and how choosing a pathway can direct their high school course planning. The clusters can be reviewed in any order. Health Sciences cluster page Once they have rated all 16 clusters, students choose their favorite and select a reason. They can also enter their own reason. 8 Students select their favorite Career Cluster The top cluster will appear on the School-2-College-2-Work menu page. Note that students can repeat a completed activity by clicking the Edit icon, as shown below. And, students make take the Career Cluster Survey to compare their favourite Career Cluster to that selected by the Survey. Each of these activities may be added to a student s ICAP page.
