2 ART ART ART Art History Grade Level: 9 th -12 th Description: This academic course is offered to students who are interested in gaining a half credit in the fine arts. Students who take this course do not need to be talented artists, but should arrive with an interest in the visual arts to be successful. This course is not a typical studio art class. It is a structured academic class with the addition of some art production throughout the course. Advanced art students wishing to attain Arts Specialization in the Visual Art Department are REQUIRED to take this course. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: To pass this course successfully, students must participate in independent and group work. Students should complete all art production assignments and summative assessments, including tests and quizzes. Art Survey I Grade Level: 9 th -12 th Description: This course is an introduction to art and design suited for any grade level or experience level student. Students will be responsible for a sketchbook at regular graded due dates. Students will learn how to manipulate and apply the Elements of Art in a variety of media that includes charcoal, ink, watercolor, tempera, mixed media, and colored pencil. All studio projects are designed to allow students to experience art through art history, production, reflection and appreciation. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: Successful students in this course complete all assignments given during the studio class time. Students who pass this course demonstrate respect towards materials, studio environment and others' works. Art Survey II Grade Level: 9 th -12 th Prerequisite: Art Survey 1 Description: This course is an extension of Art Survey I. Student will be responsible for a sketchbook and visual journal that will be due on a bi- weekly basis. Students will be adding to their knowledge of the Elements of Art and applying them to the Principles of design. The projects presented in class will be based off of previous Art Survey 1 courses. Students will also build upon the four disciplines of art history, aesthetics, criticism and art production. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: The students in this class are willing to complete assigned homework and assignments by due dates. Students will be respectful of the studio and participate in group discussions. ART Ceramics I Grade Level: 9 th -12 th

3 Description: This course is a study in hand built and wheel thrown pottery. Students will experience sequential learning that encompasses basic hand building techniques, wheel throwing techniques, glazing, firing processes, art criticism, aesthetics, art history, and production. Students will be working individually, as well as, in groups to create functional and artistic pieces. Students will gain an understanding of the stages that clay goes through from slip stage to glaze firing, wedging, and clay recycling. Sketches are required for each project. Students will actively participate in the recycling and firing processes, as well as, loading and unloading the kiln. This course is ideal for students who are committed to working hard and getting very messy. Being a part of the ceramics art studio takes commitment and hard work to be successful. Grades are based on sketches, quizzes, tests, and clay projects. Successful Students: Students must be self-motivated, work well independently, sketch out and formulate ideas, collaborate, think critically, problem-solve, question, write and reflect about art. ART ART Ceramics II Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Prerequisite: Ceramics I Description: Students will refine and build upon clay techniques and historical knowledge learned in Ceramics I. Students will explore a wide variety of materials and techniques. They will learn advanced texturing and decorating techniques such as slip trailing, stamping, carving and engraving, embellishing, and the use of slump molds. Sketches are required for each project. Students will actively participate in the recycling and firing processes, loading and unloading the kiln, running the pug to recycle clay and helping to coordinate and set up art shows. These students will be an encouragement to Ceramics I students as they share their knowledge and experiences. Students will work together to reflect, critique and analyze one another s body of work. They will be introduced to community artists and share in their knowledge as they work side by side. Successful Students: Passed Ceramics I with a "B" or higher Personal Skills: Students must be self- motivated, work well independently, sketch out and formulate ideas, collaborate, think critically, problem solve, question, write and reflect about art. Being a part of the ceramics art studio takes commitment and hard work to be successful. Must help set up and take down art shows. Help paint the musical set. Ceramics III & IV Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Prerequisite: Ceramics I and II Description: Ceramics III & IV will be an independent study. These students will be researching and artist, art style, time period or movement that will serve as an inspiration to their work. Ceramics III & IV students will be working very closely together to encourage, critique and peer teach one another within a studio setting. The student and teacher will map out together individual expectations, projects and deadlines appropriate to their learning goals. Students will actively participate in the recycling and firing processes, loading and unloading the kiln, and helping to coordinate and set up art shows. They will be introduced to community artists and share in their knowledge as they work side by side.

4 Successful Students: Students must be self-motivated, work well independently, sketch out and formulate ideas, collaborate, think critically, problem-solve, question, write and reflect about art. Personal Skills: Students must be willing to set up and take down art shows and help to paint the GOHS musical set. ART ART ART ART Dance Level 1 Grade Level: 9th-12 th Description: This is a full year course that is designed for students with some formal dance experience. This class focuses on the study of ballet, tap and jazz. Classes also include the study of dance history, terminology, nutrition and fitness. In addition to class and rehearsals during the school day, students may have rehearsals and performances after school. Dance Level 2 Grade Level: 10th-12 th Prerequisite: Dance Level 1 Description: This is a full year course that is designed for students that have successfully completed Level 1 Dance.This class focuses on the study of ballet,pointe,jazz,tap and modern/lyrical dance.classes also include the study of dance history,terminology,nutrition,and fitness.in addition to class and rehearsals during the school day,students may have rehearsals and performances after school. Attendance at extra practices and performances is required. Summer dance study is encouraged. Dance Level 3 Grade Level: 10th-12th Prerequisite: Dance Level 2 Description: This is a full year course that is designed for the student that has successfully completed Dance Level 2. This class focuses on the intermediate study of ballet, pointe, jazz, tap and modern lyrical dance. Classes also include the study of dance history, terminology, nutrition, fitness, dance related injuries and choreography. In addition to class and rehearsals during the school day, students have a commitment to rehearsals and performance after school. Attendance at extra rehearsals and performances is required. Summer dance study is encouraged. Dance Level 3/Honors Grade Level: 11th-12th Prerequisite: Dance Level 2 Description: Same as Dance Level 3 with the following additional requirements: 1. Must be a Junior or Senior. 2. Participation in all dance performances including the fall ballet and high school musical. 3. Must attend and critique two collegiate or professional dance performances. 4. Must attend summer dance classes at GlenOak or audition for and attend an approved professional summer dance camp.

5 ART ART ART ART Dance Level 4 Grade Level: 11th-12th Prerequisite: Dance Level 3 Description: This class focuses on the intermediate/advanced study of ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, modern/lyrical dance. Classes also include the study of dance history,terminology,nutrition,fitness and dance related injuries. In addition to class and rehearsals during the school day,students have a commitment to rehearsals and performances after school. Attendance at extra rehearsals is required. Summer dance study is encouraged. Dance Level 4/Honors Grade Level: 12th Prerequisite: Honors Dance Level 3 Description: Same as Dance Level 4 with the following additional requirements: 1. Must be a Senior. 2. Participation in all performances including the fall ballet and high school musical. 3. Must attend and critique three collegiate or professional performances. 4. Must complete a three page research paper on a dance-based topic. 5. Must participate in summer dance classes at GlenOak or audition and attend an approved professional summer dance camp. Drama I Grade Level: 9 th 12 th Description: Drama I is designed for those students entering Drama and demonstrating an interest in drama. Drama I focuses on voice for stage, stage movement, and acting for the theatre. Successful Students: Must be able to work well various groups and amongst a variety of personality types. A successful student must be a good listener and observer as other group/students perform. Personal Skills: Successful students in this course have the ability to stay on task, maintain his/her focus when working with a group or partner, the discipline to memorize lines, to work on projects which simulate real- life situations. Drama II Grade Level: 10 th 12 th Prerequisite: Drama I or teacher recommendation Description: Drama II focuses on technical theatre. Set design and set construction are the major areas of focus. Students collaborate on script writing as well as production of a script. Various playwrights and scripts are studied. The history of film is also part of Drama II. Lab hours at GlenOak or other theatres and attendance at school productions are required.

6 Successful Students: Successful Student Profile 1: A student must be able to attend after-school performances. Successful Student Profile 2: A student must be a willing to study and learn about all film genres. Personal Skills: Essential Skills: Successful students in this course have the ability to stay on task, maintain his/her focus when working with a group or partner, the discipline to memorize lines and work with community figures as well as staff members and represent GlenOak High School students as vital members of the community. ART ART Drama III Grade Level: 11 th 12 th Prerequisite: Drama II Description: The instruction in Drama III will provide an in-depth study of Greek, American and Elizabethan theatre. There will be a historical perspective of acting, methods, and techniques of acting and the opportunity to develop style through the study of acting in period plays. Musical theatre and audition techniques will also be studied. Script writing is discussed as well as theatre marketing. Lab hours and attendance at school productions are also required. Successful Students: A student must be able to attend after school performances. A student is interested in learning about the history of theatre and honing his/her onstage and backstage skills. Personal Skills: Successful students in this course have the ability to become independent learners and problem- solvers and to study the in- depth units about theatre history. Drama III/Honors Grade Level: 11 th -12 th Prerequisite: Drama II Description: The instruction in Drama III will provide an in-depth study of Greek, American and Elizabethan theatre. 7 Description: This course is a culmination of the study of drama for the past three years. The courses focuses on playwriting, direction, audition techniques, the history of radio and television and the business of theatre and stage-managing. A senior project is required. Extensive lab hours will be a requirement for Drama IV as is attendance at all school productions. An exit portfolio and interview with a panel of community and faculty members is the culmination of four years of Drama. Successful Students: A student has mastered the skills of Drama III by earning a minimum A or B average. A student must be able to attend both after school rehearsals and performances. Personal Skills: Essential Skills: Successful students in this course have become independent learners and problem- solvers, they are committed to the requirements of after school hours and are eager to take on the challenges of full- scale productions. Enriched Art I Grade Level: 9th Prerequisite: Middle School Immersion Art Description: This year-long course is designed for the aspiring art student who has already demonstrated a strong skill set in the visual arts during middle school immersion art classes. Middle school art teachers document who is ready for this course and all measures are taken to ensure these students are accepted into this course. Occasionally, students who did not participate in the immersion program or who are from a different district, do enter this course upon the art instructors' approval. Students in this course will earn 1 credit and can take part in the Arts Specialization program, if interested. This course is designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement class, after completing levels 1, 2 and 3. Students will explore the Elements of Art and how to manipulate and create the Design Principles with a variety of media. Some units of study include Drawing from a live figure, Painting with a limited palette, Color Theory through Pastels, and multi-color Linoleum block printing methods. Successful Students: Active class participation.

8 Personal Skills: Students who pass this course successfully demonstrate maturity with content, complete all studio work, provide their own sketchbook journals and portfolios and have a strong drive and talent in the visual arts. ART ART ART Enriched Art II Grade Level: 10th Prerequisite: Enriched Art 1 Description: This year-long course is designed for the talented art student who successfully passed Enriched Art I with a C or higher. Students in this course build upon the foundation set in Enriched Art I, exploring the Design Principles with higher level concepts and techniques in paint, charcoal, ink, printmaking, mixed media, collage, and watercolor. Students wishing to attain the Arts Specialization on their diploma should earn an A in this course, along with completing the necessary outside work for the specialization. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: Students who successfully pass this course are the serious art students who work inside the studio and often outside the studio to complete works to the best of their abilities. Students often participate in outside community service opportunities such as painting the set of the musical, setting up the art show and participating in local and national art competitions. Enriched Art III Honors Grade Level: 11th-12th Prerequisite: Enriched Art 1, Enriched Art 2 Description: This year-long course is designed for the serious art student who has successfully passed Enriched Art I and II with a C or higher. This course is designed as a pre-ap class and often shares the same class time as the AP studio art class. Students in this course explore a variety of concepts, tools and techniques necessary in preparing them for the AP studio art course. Portfolios and sketch journals will be apart of the grade in the class, as well as, serve as a foundation into the AP course. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: Students who successfully pass this course demonstrate artistic maturity and self motivation. Students often need to use time out of class in order to complete the assignments to the level required of an Honors course. Students often submit their works to various local and national art competitions, as well as, build a portfolio foundation for their future in AP Studio Art. Sculpting 1 Grade Level: 9 th -12 th Description: This course is designed for the student who is a three dimensional thinking. The student will be creating objects that are in the round. This course will be based on applying the Elements of Art and Principles of design in three dimensional works. Students will be required to

9 keep a daily process journal of the assigned projects. Students will be working with a variety of mediums that will include cardboard, wire, metal, and a variety of paper. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: A successful student possess some knowledge of art. Students will need to show willingness to complete projects and assigned process journals. Students will also not be afraid to get a little messy. ART ART ART Sculpting 2 Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Prerequisite: Sculpting 1 Description: This course is an extension of Sculpting 1. This course is designed for the student who is a three dimensional thinking. The student will be creating objects that are in the round. This course will be based on applying the Elements of Art and Principles of design in three dimensional works. Students will be required to keep a daily process journal of the assigned projects. Students will be working with a variety of mediums that will include cardboard, wire, metal, and a variety of paper. Successful Students: Active class participation. Personal Skills: A successful student in this class is an independent worker. A student possess some knowledge of art. Students will need to show willingness to complete projects and assigned process journals. Students will also not be afraid to get a little messy. Studio Art AP Grade Level: 12th Prerequisite: Enriched Art I, Enriched Art II, Honors Art III Description: The AP studio course is designed for the advanced artist who has successfully completed the Enriched courses. This student is dedicated to the visual arts and is willing to successfully complete the summer course assignments on time. All AP art students sign a contract that covers materials, work expectations, attendance and parental support. Interested students who transfer from another district must have approval from the AP art instructor and a portfolio of work to show the instructor before taking this course. Personal Skills: Complete summer work on time and to the best of their ability. Participate in outside of class community work or other various opportunities. Set up, ready work and take down the senior portion of the GOHS art show. Participate in various local and national art competitions and exhibitions. Active class participation. Students with a B grade average or higher in prerequisite courses are most successful. Studio Clay Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Description: Studio Clay is an all handbuilding class. There is no wheel throwing involved since the class is a 45 min. skinny. Handbuilding forms such as the pinch pots, coiling, and slab construction will be the basis for each project. Students will learn the processes of glazing and firing. We will discuss art criticism, aesthetics, art history and production. Sketches and written reflections

10 are required for each project. Projects created in this class will not be repeated in ceramics I, II, III, or IV. Successful Students: Students must be self-motivated, work well independently, sketch out and formulate ideas, collaborate, think critically, problem solve, question, write and reflect about art. Being a part of the ceramics art studio takes commitment and hard work to be successful. BUSINESS BUSINESS BUSINESS Accounting I Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Description: An introduction to the basic accounting procedures used to operate a business organized as a sole proprietorship. The accounting procedures presented in this class will serve as a sound background for employment as well as preparation for studying business courses in college. Personal Skills: Successful students in this course possess the ability to work independently, complete assignments accurately and on- time. Computer Applications for Professionals CCP Recommended Grade Levels: 9 th -12 th Length: Semester Credit: 1.0 College Credit: 3 Hours Prerequisite: Must take COMPAS or ACT (No minimum score) Description: An introductory computer applications course using current Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software. Students will learn the proper procedures to create documents (MS Word), presentations (MS PowerPoint), worksheets (Excel), and databases (Access) suitable for high school and college coursework, professional purposes, and personal use. Also offered as a dual-credit class through Stark State College with qualifying pre-test score. Personal Skills: The ability to work independently, complete assignments accurately and on- time. High School of Business Business Applications & Economics Grade Level: 9 th Description: Students will develop fundamental knowledge and skills in business administration. They will examine business acvtivities, business processes and forms of business ownership. Students will acquire an understanding of economic principles such as supply and demand, division of labor and ocmpetition. They will identify current trends, issues and confitions impacting buisiness and determine the impact of the global enviroment on bvusinss operations. Innovatoin, technology, leadership and communications will also be addressed. Personal Skills: A successful student in the High School of Business is one who is a self- starter, is self- motivated, is willing to participate in a group work setting, and is motivated to experiment with project- based learning to yield out- of- the- box solutions. BUSINESS High School of Business Business Administration Marketing Grade Level: 10 th Prerequisite: HSB Business Applications & Economics

11 Description: Students will obtain fundamental knowledge of marketing activities, including sales channels, marketing- information management, management research, market planning, marketing communications, pricing, product and service management, branding and selling. They will conduct marketing research, identify target markets, conduct market and competitice analyses, forecast sales, set marketing goals. Personal Skills: A successful student in the High School of Business is one who is a self- starter, is self- motivated, is willing to participate in a group work setting, and is motivated to experiment with project- based learning to yield out- of- the- box solutions. BUSINESS BUSINESS High School of Business Business Administraton Finance Grade Level: 11 th Prerequisite: HSB - Business Adminstration Marketing Description: Students will develop knowledge and skills in financial analysis, financial reporting and corporate investments. They will predict corporate performance and select profitable investments using financial statements, ratio analysis, and other financial analysis techniques. They will calculate cash needs using the time value of money and track, record and summarize a business s financial transactions. Compliance, internal controls, business governance and personal financial management will be addressed. Technology, employability skills, leadership and communications will be emphasized. Personal Skills: A successful student in the High School of Business is one who is a self- starter, is self- motivated, is willing to participate in a group work setting, and is motivated to experiment with project- based learning to yield out- of- the- box solutions. High School of Business Business Administraton Strategic Management Grade Level: 12 th Prerequisite: HSB - Business Adminstration Finance Description: Students will plan, actualize, and run a small business. They will define their business s mission; develop the business s vision, goals and objectives, and create a business plan. Students will also develop a budget and recruit, interview, select, hire and manage employees. They will examine legal and ethical issues associated with management as well as management functions, levels and types. Project management technology, tools and processes will also be emphasized. Personal Skills: A successful student in the High School of Business is one who is a self- starter, is self- motivated, is willing to participate in a group work setting, and is motivated to experiment with project- based learning to yield out- of- the- box solutions. BUSINESS Leadership Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Description: Leadership, a project-based leadership course, develops student understanding and skills in such areas as communication skills, emotional intelligence, operations, and professional

12 development. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of the need for leadership skills. To encourage immediate implementation of leadership skills, Leadership utilizes an on-going servicelearning project for course delivery and reinforcement. Personal Skills: A successful student in the High School of Business is one who is a self- starter, is self- motivated, is willing to participate in a group work setting, and is motivated to experiment with project- based learning to yield out- of- the- box solutions. BUSINESS Microeconomics CCP Recommended Grade Level: 11 th 12 th Length: Semester High School Credit: 1 College Credit: 3 hours Prerequisite: Score at least 18 on ACT English or 80 on COMPASS Reading Description: An in-depth study of microeconomic concepts and principles such as supply and demand, price elasticity, production costs, different market structures, income distribution, marginal analysis, and other issues relating to global economics. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of these topics and be able to apply them to business. BUSINESS Principles of Marketing CCP Recommended Grade Level: 11 th 12 th Length: Semester High School Credit: 1 College Credit: 3 hours Prerequisite: Successful completion of Microeconomics CCP; Score at least 18 on ACT English or 80 on COMPASS Reading Description: This course is an introduction to the important role that marketing plays in the successful operation of various enterprises that operate in both the domestic and international arenas. Emphasis is on developing marketing strategies needed to compete effectively in today s rapidly changing competitive environment. Customer buying behavior, market segmentation, quality customer service, and the elements of product distribution, pricing and promotion strategies are examined. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the above topic areas. BUSINESS Wealth Management Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Description: In Wealth Management, this project-based financial literacy and investment course develops student understanding and skills in such areas as personal finance, types of investment, the stock market, and stock valuation. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of the need for personal financial management and investing. To encourage immediate implementation of financial literacy and investment skills, Wealth Management utilizes an on-going investment project for course delivery and reinforcement. Personal Skills: A successful student in the High School of Business is one who is a self- starter, is self- motivated, is willing to participate in a group work setting, and is motivated to experiment with project- based learning to yield out- of- the- box solutions. CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS Entertainment Technology 10

13 Grade Level: 10 th Description: This class serves as an introduction to the Entertainment Technology Tech Prep Program. Students will learn recording/entertainment technology history and get a hands-on introduction to the lighting and sound equipment used in the Entertainment Technology Program. Successful students in this program have good attendance and an interest in concerts, music, theater/drama, and hands-on learning. CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS Floral & Landscape Design I and II Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Description: This course provides the basic competencies needed for the average person to be successful at designing centerpieces, bouquets, corsages, and specialty items. Students will also design and create floral needs for the district. Also included is the study in practical horticulture designed to familiarize students with the science and skills necessary for the improvement of residential surroundings. A study of plants, hardscaping, and an in-depth look at landscape systems maintenance culminate with a student's project to redesign his or her own home landscape. Students are required to provide their own drawing instruments. This course will allow for learned material to expand upon in Floral & Landscape Design II as well as the Career Tech Horticulture Program. The course fee covers all required items and membership of Ohio FFA. Foundations of Health Services Grade Level: 9 th -12 th Description: This course will explore all careers in an allied health field. Possible career options include physician, athletic training, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, nursing aide, and physician s assistant. Class assignments include projects, computer programs, aptitude assessments, job shadowing, speakers, interviews, case studies and continuous self-evaluation. Successful Students: Have a desire to learn more about the Health Care pathway. Personal Skills: Successful students in this course possess a willingness to complete all assignments and projects. Foundations of Human Services Fee: None Grade Level: 9 th -12 th Description: Human Service careers attempt to improve the overall well-being of the members of a community. Success in the field requires you to have a high level of dedication and commitment along with a sincere desire to prevent and solve the many social problems faced in today's society. Human Service professionals attempt to improve the quality and accessibility of the social services offered in a particular geographical area. This class will investigate careers related to families and human needs and will explore agencies located in the Canton/Stark County area. Whether you want

14 to be a social worker, a childcare provider, a hairdresser, or a fireman/emt you will be addressing human needs. CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS CAREER TECH FOUNDATIONS Foundations of Teaching Grade Level: 10 th Description: This course is designed to provide students with introductory experiences in the educational environment and to allow students to be better prepared when entering the teaching profession at the post-secondary level. Instruction includes lectures, role-playing, tutoring and presentations. Students will be evaluated through project and test assessment. The successful student in this class has a strong English background, a willingness to speak in front of the class frequently, and excellent attendance. Successful Students: Students who are willing to collaborate with others and who are comfortable speaking in front of the class. Personal Skills: Willingness to speak in front of the class, participate in volunteer experiences in the elementary buildings. Intro to Health Technologies Grade Level: 10 th -12 th Description: The Health Technology program provides a broad-based exposure to a variety of health occupations. Instruction involves hands-on training in providing personal care for patients combined with theoretical instruction in the fundamental subjects of the health care industry such as growth and development, medical-legal issues, medical terminology, health care safety, and professional communication. Technology-related mathematics, reading, writing, vocabulary and science are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students will be exposed to a variety of careers in health care. Qualities and attributes necessary to work in health care settings are emphasized including 21st Century health care skills; critical thinking, problem solving and social/culture competencies. Career shadowing to observe various health care careers is required. Instruction in FEMMA indorsed Triage Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid leading to certification will be provided. Successful Students: Strong science scores in Biology and Integrated Physical Science, strong math and science content knowledge. Personal Skills: Works well in stressful situations and or life-threatening situations. Intro to Video Production Grade Level: 10th Description: Students are exposed to industry standard video editing and shooting techniques as well as general computer and communication skills. Students start the course working with still images in Photoshop and progress to working with moving images in professional video editing software. Students will demonstrate discernment and creativity to produce compelling and interesting content in a project based learning environment. The class features a multitude of hands-on

15 experiences and real-world interaction with technology such as video cameras, light kits, microphones, green screens, video switchers, etc. Students work on a variety of projects in an individual and collaborative settings. Students will learn how to adequately record video, edit video, and produce graphics with Photoshop while learning media literacy and storytelling skills. There is no pre-requisite, but a student with a strong knowledge of computers is preferred. Personal Skills: A successful student in this course will learn to work well independently and in groups, develop and execute creative thought, connect appropriate visuals to storylines and communicate ideas in a plethora of mediums. CAREER TECH CAREER TECH Advancement to Nursing I and II Grade Level: 11th-12th Description: The Advancement to Nursing program prepares students to enter college to pursue a minimum of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Pre-Med and Biology as well as most medical degrees. The Advancement to Nursing curriculum includes dual credit medical terminology, dual credit psychology I and II, dual credit anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, employability skills, legal practices, ethics, safety practices, teamwork, health maintenance for the provider and health maintenance for the individual community. Students have hands on patient care experiences at numerous health care facilities. Competencies will be taught in nursing lab area. In addition, the program focuses on college preparedness. Successful Students: Academically, the most successful student is one that understands and has an interest in biology as well as anatomy and physiology of the human body as reflected by course grades of 82% or greater. Strong basic math such as addition, subtraction and multiplication skills are very beneficial for the student s success in the Advancement to Nursing program. Students who scored proficient and above on the math section of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade OAA demonstrate the knowledge required to be successful in the Advancement to Nursing program. Personal Skills: The most successful student in the Advancement to Nursing program possesses compassion and respect for people of all ages and races as well as a willingness to be part of the health care team. In addition, students that are most successful in this course have good attendance for lectures, labs and off campus clinical sites such as Mercy Medical Center. Animation & Graphic Design I Grade Level: 11th Description: This is a career technical course that develops knowledge and skills in design, typography, and imaging techniques. Completion of this program provides students with career opportunities in the automotive industry and related areas. Students purchase tool kits from the recommended list provided by instructor. Good math and science skills are helpful, as they support high technology in the automotive field. Using a laboratory approach, students learn the four systems of technology as the systems apply to mechanical, fluid, electrical and thermal concepts. The program is designed to develop: the skills necessary to operate a wide variety of cameras producing quality negatives, photographs and digital images. the skills necessary to work in black & white and color film development and the production of photographs and digital prints. the skills necessary to manipulate lighting to produce professional quality portraits. proficiency in the Adobe Photoshop program, the industry standard for digital imaging and photo editing. Successful Students: A successful student within the Commercial Photography program has excellent attendance, is a creative problem solver, works well independently as well as part of a team. Personal Skills: A student who is a successful in the Photography program meets deadlines, is organized and has exceptional attendance. Construction Technology I and II Grade Level: 11th-12th Description: Students receive basic instruction in the areas of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling of structures. Various onsite construction projects are undertaken for practical application of skills. Students study blueprints, proper use of tools, machinery and an in depth training in safety. Reading a tape measure to 1/8 of an inch is a recommended prerequisite skill. Students receive advanced training in Construction Trades II and will become involved in job analysis and preparation of building materials list for various projects. Students work independently as well as members of a team in community service projects. Students with their developed skills and under highly trained supervision need to obtain construction related employment or job shadowing for the second semester. A successful student in this program will have a better chance of being accepted in one of the many local apprenticeship programs or continue his or her education in the areas construction management or related construction programs at the college level. Cosmetology I Grade Level: 11th Prerequisite: Students must be eligible to take Biology, Anatomy or Chemistry their Junior year. Description: The Cosmetology program is designed to prepare students to pursue careers as hair stylists or cosmetologists. Students learn and practice in a salon-like atmosphere in accordance with the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. Upon completion of the program, which includes an internship in a local salon, students are eligible to take the State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam. The Cosmetology license can even transfer up to 30 college credit at some colleges. Students are required to purchase uniforms and a cosmetology kit. Students enrolled in cosmetology must take Math, English and one Science (anatomy, biology or chemistry) during their junior year.

CAREER TECH CAREER TECH Cosmetology II Grade Level: 12th Prerequisite: Cosmetology I students must take a Science (Anatomy, Chemistry, or Biology), Math and English during their junior year to complete the Cosmetology I hour requirement. All students must pass Cosmetology I requirements before taking Cosmeto Description: Cosmetology is a two year program that prepares the student to become a licensed cosmetologist. This course provides classroom instruction, hands-on skills and a salon internship. Students study the theory of cosmetology and practice skills related to hair care, skin care and nail care. Cosmetology students are trained in a salon-like setting where they practice on partners, manikins, and clients. After successfully completing both years of cosmetology, the student will be illegible to take the Ohio State Board exam to become a licensed. Earning your our cosmetology license enables you to work as a stylist, nail tech, skin care specialist, salon owner or many other exciting careers in the beauty industry and can also transfer up to 30 college credits at numerous Ohio colleges. The cosmetology course meets for 3 hours each day. Successful Students: Good Attendance, Enjoy working with people, Able to stand on your feet for long periods of time. Personal Skills: Participate in a salon internship program their senior year. Engineering Technology I and II Grade Level: 11th-12th Description: The Engineering College Tech Prep I and II program introduces students to a variety of careers available in the field of Engineering. This class is a two year program designed for students who plan to pursue a bachelor s degree in Engineering. CAREER TECH CAREER TECH Entertainment Technology I Grade Level: 11th Description: Entertainment Technology I covers conventional and DMX lighting design, stage management, live sound reinforcement, and how to work with technology used in the theatrical/concert/corporate theater industries. Students will also learn how to work on a stage and run productions as a team. Successful students in this class enjoy: hands-on activities, working with lighting and sound equipment, and actively participating in managing school events and productions in our 900 seat state of the art theater. Entertainment Technology II Grade Level: 12th Prerequisite: Entertainment Technology I Description: Entertainment Technology II focuses on training students to operate and maintain a 900 seat professional performance venue. Students will learn all aspects of venue operation, including event scheduling, filling out contracts, event-specific sound/lighting design, managing a show from pre-planning through performance, and how to perform maintenance on a venue between events. Students will also work on multimedia projects demonstrating what they have learned about audio recording, lighting for stage and video, and music production. Successful students in this class enjoy: working in teams to run the sound and lighting for a performance, getting real-world work experiences in a professional venue, and recording/editing multimedia projects. CAREER TECH Health Technologies I Grade Level: 11th Description: Health Technologies is a comprehensive course regarding careers in sports medicine and therapeutic pathway health care careers. Students engage in learning recognition, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of athletic injuries. Along with completing coursework in classroom and lab settings, students are required to fulfill 175 clinical hours with a healthcare professional. Students are expected to take Anatomy and Physiology concurrently with this course. Successful Students: Students must possess strong skills in math and science.
