Econometrics A or B? Take B if you are familiar with (or are prepared to fill in any gaps on your own): Ordinary Least Squares Tests of linear restrictions (F-tests, t-tests, chisquared tests) Dummy variables as explanatory variables Heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation Endogeneity and IV estimation If in doubt, see Wiji Arulampalam (Room S2.118).
Econometrics A or B? Econometrics A/B choice needs to be made by Friday 14 th October 2016 (end of week 2) via emr (E-vision Module Registration) Sign-up for Econometrics A/B Classes via Tabula. No swapping afterwards.
Term 2 Option Modules See Handbook and the MSc webpages for available options PROVISIONALLY choose THREE from your list (differs between variants) Then, you must register your provisional option choices with University via emr Go to: and then to Module Registration page. Follow the onscreen instructions and see help-sheet: go.warwick.ac.uk/services/academicoffice/examinations/emr Deadline Friday 21 st October 2016 (end of week 3) emr choices automatically update on Tabula
Term 2 Option Modules For MSc Econ, MSc EIFE: one IB-coded module can be chosen This year, three are available: IB9X7 Derivative Securities, IB9Y2 Behavioural Finance, IB967 International Financial Markets You must register for one of these WBS modules by Friday 21st Oct 2016 on emr if you are interested BUT: numbers on these are capped, random selection used in the case of excess demand! If you are selected, you can t then change your mind.
Term 2 Option Modules IB9X7 Derivative Securities, IB9Y2 Behavioural Finance, IB967 International Financial Markets These WBS modules are challenging technical courses. To take these modules, you must have a strong mathematics and statistics/econometrics ability. If you have done little maths or stats/econometrics before your MSc, please avoid these modules. If, by 21 October, you realise you have struggled/are struggling in our Pre-Sessional Maths/Stats or the Term 1 core modules, do not sign up for/withdraw from these modules.
Term 2 Option Modules? Advice session: Friday 7 th October 2016 Note that initial choices are only provisional (an emr constraint!) Mandy can make changes on emr for you during first two weeks of spring term (apart from IB-coded modules). Possible an option may not run due to low numbers.
House Rules If you miss an exam or test, or need a deadline extension, due to illness or personal problems: If possible, see the PG Teaching and Learning Manager or your Personal Tutor to explain Get medical notes before, not after the exam The same applies if you feel your performance in an exam may be affected due to illness or personal problems
House Rules Be here during term-time: contact points (exams, personal tutor meeting, seminars - see MSc Handbook) NO Summer internships or any other jobs September dissertation deadline absolute Progression to dissertation not automatic, depends on the number of failed exams Lecture notes practice varies
House Rules Plagiarism: reproducing or copying ideas without correct referencing Some examples of plagiarism are: reproducing ideas from another published work without citing the source; copying another student's work and pretending it is yours, with or without their permission, and whether they are a present or past student at this or any other university; including sections from a piece of work that you have submitted previously at Warwick or another institution, downloading part or all of a document or ready-made essay from an internet website and pretending it is your own work.
House Rules Assignments and dissertations will be checked through Turnitin plagarism software Always state the author and publication, date and page number for: Direct quotations Reworked data Paraphrased arguments or theories Penalties are severe for plagiarism, collusion and other forms of cheating (e.g. cheating in tests or exams)
Assessment and Exams Module pass mark is 50% Degree classifications based on weighted award average: 70.0% % % Distinction Merit Pass 49.9 Fail Minimum credit to be taken at Masters level is 180 CATS (Course Accumulation and Transfer Scheme) Need to pass at least 150 CATS and achieve at least 40% in any failed module(s). MSc Assessment and Exam Schemes: go.warwick.ac.uk/economics/current/msc/handbook
Assessment and Exams 70.0% % % Distinction Merit Pass 49.9 Fail This marking scale is typical for the UK, but might be unexpected for anyone who has studied abroad. Please become familiar with it. The mean mark for our core modules is typically around 62%. To obtain a mark of 70, your work needs to be very good. Although we do use the full marking scale of 0% to 100%, in practice marks of above 80 are quite rare (<10%, typically).
