2 HACKNEY ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES LAUNCHING THE ASSESSMENT MODEL- An introduction 2:30pm 17:00pm Monday 29th June 2015 Wednesday 1st July 2015 (repeated) Thursday 2 nd July 2015 (repeated) Tuesday 15 th September 2015 (repeated) This session introduces the new model for Hackney s approach to assessment. Head teachers and senior leaders looking to implement the Hackney approach to assessment within their schools. Classroom practitioners are welcome to attend but must be joined be joined by a member of SLT. To consider the current National landscape for assessment. To look specifically at tracking progress and attainment using the new approach to assessment based on end of year objectives. To provide opportunities to reflect upon the cultural shift needed within schools. To consider the leadership of assessment and to plan for the year to come.
3 HACKNEY ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES- Module 1 AIMS AND PRINCIPLES- In theory Tuesday 29th September 2015 (SENIOR & SUBJECT LEADERS) Tuesday 6 th October 2015 (CLASSROOM PRACTITIONERS) This session address the aims and principles of the Hackney approach to assessment looking at both the strategic leadership of the model and how this might look within the classroom. It is advised that senior leaders attend the first session and send class practitioners to the session the following week. These sessions will be followed by practical workshops involving visits to schools. To consider the yearly assessment cycle To look at the tracking milestones- principles and purposes. To provided opportunities to reflect on the assessment of maths and English in particular. To consider the triangulation model and how to build the profile of a child looking at books, assessments, child conferencing and the evaluation of learning. To reflect on how to build a body of evidence and engage in dialogue about learning and progression. HACKNEY ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES - Module 1 AIMS AND PRINCIPLES- In practice Lucy Blewett & Anna Case (Springfield) Penny Smith & Alice O Reilly (Whitmore) Leaders and Class practitioners can select a Maths and English workshop from the following dates: Wednesday 14 th October Whitmore (English focus) Tuesday 20 st October Springfield (Maths focus) Wednesday 4 th November 2015 Whitmore (English focus) Wednesday 11 th November Springfield (Maths focus) Wednesday 18 th November Whitmore (English focus) Tuesday 24 th November Springfield (Maths focus) VENUE: Springfield/Whitmore This session looks at the practical application of the aims and principles shared in the previous session. Participants are able to reflect on how this may look in their own settings and take part in a learning walk through the school. This will be an opportunity to engage in professional dialogue and share models of best practice. Head teachers, Senior leaders and class teachers are invited to attend these workshops. To consider what the theory looks like in practice. To identify AFL in action. To discuss what evidence can be used to make judgements about learning. To engage in dialogue with teachers and children about their learning. To reflect on the assessment cycle across the year.
4 HACKNEY ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES - Module 1 AIMS AND PRINCIPLES- Twilight Review TWILIGHT 3:00pm 5:00pm Wednesday 2nd December 2015 (Senior Leaders) Wednesday 9th December 2015 (Classroom Practitioners) These facilitated moderation sessions will focus on the demonstration of progress and the learning journey. Senior leaders will look at the tracking of milestones, presentation of data, use of formative and summative assessment and identification of targets. Classroom practitioners will share samples of learning and moderate judgements made, discussing a range of ways to collect evidence to support their judgements. They will look in more detail at the planning and assessment cycles. It is advised that senior leaders attend the first session and send a selection of class practitioners to the session the following week. To share models of best practice To reflect on systems and processes in place within schools To moderate judgements
5 HACKNEY ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES - Module 2 TRACKING PROGRESS- In theory Wednesday 6th January 2015 (SENIOR & SUBJECT LEADERS) Tuesday 12 th January 2015 (CLASSROOM PRACTITIONERS) This session will look at how to effectively run a pupil progress meeting, reporting to stakeholders, analyse the % of the class working at age expectation and identify gaps. This will feed into both whole school development plans and targeted teaching and interventions in the classroom. The session will look at the model as part of the planning and assessment cycle. It is advised that senior leaders attend the first session and send a class practitioners to the session the following week. These sessions will be followed by practical workshops involving visits to schools. To consider the impact of pupil progress meetings. To look at reporting to stakeholders To provided opportunities to share practice To consider the role of the tool in the planning cycle. To reflect on the progress of individuals, groups and cohorts. Module 3 Information to follow Module 3 will be designed and offered based on the needs of the schools and feedback on the model itself. Moderation sessions These will be facilitated by Hackney Learning Trust and will provide opportunities to share practice and moderate judgements within year groups. Dates can be found in the Learning Trust CPD brochure. Classroom practitioners will share samples of learning and moderate judgements made, discussing a range of ways to collect evidence to support their judgements. They will look in more detail at the planning and assessment cycles. It is advised that senior leaders attend the first session and send a selection of class practitioners to the session the following week.
