4 If you have more than one child at the school, you should be able to see each of them on the same account:

6 How should your son/daughter be using SMHW? 1. If they have a device, download the app, otherwise use a computer. 2. Check To-Do list on a daily basis. 3. Complete all tasks by due date. 4. See subject teacher if unsure what to do or see Mrs McFarlane in H/W Club for help and if there are log-in issues. 5. Tick off task on SMHW once completed.
7 How should the teachers be using it? 1. All homework set at UCC should be posted on SMHW on the day the work is set. 2. Students should be given at least 2 days to complete homework tasks. 3. Homework should not be set for the following day (except in exceptional circumstances.) 4. All homework set should be acknowledged by the teacher, and in most cases it will be marked either by the teacher, the student or peers. (It is not always appropriate to mark some types of homework eg. planning or flipped learning tasks) 5. We have a variety of approaches to collecting and marking homework, so please don t expect all homework to be collected via SMHW we primarily use SMHW simply as an on-line diary.
8 What happens if your son/daughter misses homework deadlines or is not completing homework to an appropriate standard? We monitor the completion and quality of homework. If there are persistent issues then you will be contacted by the school and a homework support plan will be put in place to help your child get back into good homework habits.
9 Who can you ask for help? Student Services here at UCC can help with all Log-in Issues eg. re-issuing passwords or PINs. Use Help section in SMHW Phone Show My Homework directly - can be useful if you are having technical problems at home or problems with multiple user access: Show My Homework
10 Who can your son/daughter ask for help? If you are missing deadlines. If you need a quiet place to get your homework done. If you need a computer/printer. 13 How does UCC encourage your child to read? Regular lessons in the Library with an experienced librarian at hand. A well resourced library containing a wide range of genres as well as audio books. Library software which recommends similar titles. Competitions within the English department. Extreme Reading to be launched soon. The Big Book Swap being launched after half term. Reading homework. Reading at least once a week in form times. Reading Buddies scheme.
14 How can you encourage your child to read? Make sure there are plenty of books and reading material at home. Take your child to book shops / local library. Encourage your child to make their own reading choices and try not to criticise what they are reading. Read your child s books at the same time and discuss it with them. Model reading as a part of life to your child by reading yourself. Find articles from magazines / newspapers or blogs etc. that you think your child will enjoy and encourage them to do the same for you! Introduce family reading time where the whole family sits down and reads. Consider buying an e-reader or purchasing an e-book they can read on their mobile phone. Make use of the reading lists on the school website.

36 Year Seven - Maths We have seven one hour lessons per fortnight. The students are following a curriculum that maximises their potential to make progress. Reviewed at the start & end of each unit of work. Assessment is a combination of demonstrating the skill and then being able to apply the skill to problems.
