2 The Busy Teacher: My Story Junior-Senior High French Teacher Completed 7th year teaching I have had as many as 9 preps and as few as 6 This year I had 7 preps including 2 new Honors-level classes Coach Quick Recall Academic Council Member Helped run Box Office for Spring Musical

3 Different types of assessment Formative Assessments given along the way of a unit Allows students to get feedback on how they are doing Allows teacher to get data on how students are doing What students have already mastered What teacher needs to re-teach Summative Assessments given at the end of a unit Can be test or performance-based or project-based

4 Why I Use Digital Assessment It saves paper (and you from the piles of paper on your desk). It is easier for students to turn in or share work with you. It is easier for teachers to grade the work that comes in. It can be written anywhere. It can be graded anywhere. It prepares students for their futures in this increasingly digital world

5 How I use Digital Assessment to save trees and time Saving Trees I don t make as many copies I don t have students print things out No longer huge stacks of papers to hand back Saving Time Returning work is much easier Click and type instead of writing feedback Easier to grade

6 Google Apps for Education These can be used by students and teachers either on a PC or download as apps on the ipad. Ones that I use regularly: Google Classroom Google Docs Google Forms Google Slides

7 Google Classroom Google Classroom is where assessments, assignments, and activities live. Accessible as an app or online This is what I use to deliver the assignments to students and post grades and feedback. Join the Saving Trees, Saving Time Classroom now!

8 Google Docs Students can create and share You can create a template, have students download it and fill it in and then submit through Google Classroom. Accessible as an app or online I use these for both formative and summative assessments Formative: Quick Writes and/or questions and answers Summative: Writing Assessments

9 Google Forms Can create multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank activities, quizzes, tests, etc. Also a great way to give a Pre-Test/Post-Test Must create using a computer but can be taken on any device Using the Extension Flubaroo, you can set up Forms/Sheets to grade assignments for you and send students their scores! I use this both for formative and summative assessments Examples: Fill-in-the-blank verb sentences Vocabulary quizzes

10 Google Slides Create PowerPoint like presentations Accessible as an app or online Allows for collaboration among students through Classroom. Great for Projects!

11 Socrative Accessible as an app or online Great for warm-ups/bellringers/exit slips Can be short answer, fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice Can be done student-paced or teacher-paced Gives immediate feedback You get an Excel spreadsheet with results or date at the end of the activity.

12 Kahoot! Free website You can create multiple choice, interactive games Teacher-paced Great for review or ungraded formative assessments You can see the data at the end to see how students are doing with a topic. You can also have students create them and share! I ve also used Kahoot! to introduce topics and see if students can pick up on patterns and make educated guesses

13 Quizizz Similar to Kahoot! Free website for interactive games Multiple choice questions appear on the screen for the individual students More student-paced Can be more personalized than Kahoot! MEMES! Can be assigned for homework or completed live in class Can be linked to Google Classroom

14 Poll everywhere A free website for online polls or surveys Could be used as formative assessment, especially as an exit slip See how students feel about a topic and allow them to reflect on their own learning on an objective

15 GoFormative.com A free website Similar to Kahoot! Or Quizizz but allows for more than just multiple choice responses: Short answer Show your work Could be used as a warm-up/bell-ringer, exit slip or even homework review or class practice. You can use PDF assignments you already have and transform them into goformative assignments!
