33 Mindset Lesson 1: Choice Our greatest barriers to success are our own internal beliefs about who we are and what we are truly capable of. We presume success requires us to possess talent Sample Lesson Concept or have access to power, money or privilege. We assign success to luck, personality or happenstance - all of which are beyond our control. By not challenging these assumptions, we accept limitations that are self-imposed. We blind ourselves to opportunities and our own untapped potential. We must live consciously and exercise our ability to make choices about how we respond to our circumstances and and what we want to have happen in our lives in order to transform any set of circumstances into a success. The ability to choose the way we respond to our circumstances is fundamental to an entrepreneurial mindset. In Lesson 1, students will understand the importance of an internal versus an external locus of control and how each perspective can influence critical choices we make. Student Success Application! In Lesson 1, students chart meaningful goals and begin planning the steps needed to achieve their dreams. Students will understand how one s perspective can influence the critical choices we make and that academic success requires focus and self-management. Students will discover that they have control over outcomes in their lives, and through

34 Sample Lesson Concept Mindset Lesson 5: Resources The entrepreneurial mindset focuses on resources that will advance their goals. Entrepreneurs think in terms of creating value by solving problems for other people. The more problems they can solve, the more they earn. They create a system for generating solutions at the same time they create wealth. The system is is limited only by their own imagination and willingness to try. In Lesson 5, students will learn how to leverage their resources to accomplish their goals. Student Success Application! In Lesson 5, students will learn how to leverage campus resources to accomplish their educational goals. They will learn the importance of financial management including budgeting their money and strategies for paying off their college debt.

36 Course Delivery Options The Ice House Student Success Program can be delivered in a full semester schedule (15 weeks) or a half semester schedule (8 or 10 weeks) as a face-toface class with a blended delivery (online components completed outside of class) or a fully online course delivery. It can be delivered in a 1 credit hour or 3 credit hour version.

47 Student Success Advisory Council Goal Advance student persistence and completion by developing a modified, stand-alone student success course version of the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program Ice House Student Success Program - to empower students with an entrepreneurial mindset and the perseverance needed to succeed academically, in the workforce, and in life.
