19 Key Features of IMC High school students (and teachers) are scientists for one day As close as possible to current research Own hands-on activities Use the same methods and tools like scientists Direct contact with (young) physicists impact? (on teaching, learning, education )
20 Variety of Approaches IMC: central coordination, but organized individually Many models: Often: one-day-acitivity (expect positive temporary effects, but no long-term effects) Also possible: preparation, follow-up (students prepare videos, essays, give talks, additional activities )
21 Examples teachers training (2-3 days) include MC The teachers usually like this session very much because it complements nicely the didactic (and abstract) courses they follow during the training. Their feedbacks are very positive, just like those from the teachers who come with their students for a regular Masterclass session. Orientation + preparation We provide orientation for the teachers and expect them to participate in the Masterclasses. We do have evidence that when teachers prepare students with at least 3 activities prior to the Masterclass, they do better than students who are not prepared
