6 Platform MoLeNa MoLeNa provides information about possible topics for master thesises, including information about supervisors. All protocols resulting from the interim appraisals, the disposition, and the final version of the master thesis need to be uploaded on MoLeNa. An exact description of MoLeNa can be found on the intranet. Login: 6

7 Assignment procedure submitting your own topic Good topic who supervises me? 1 Student Submitting a topic and apply to an organizational unit (OU) Good topic and have already approached a supervisor 2 Gatekeeper receives submission Gatekeeper Student Submitting a topic to MoLeNa, including the remark that a potential supervisor has been found Topic and OU match Supervisor will be assigned and the student informed Topic and OU mismatch Rejection New application to another OU 7

9 Assignment procedure Manual Assignment If no topic was found until the deadline, the gatekeeper will assign the student to an open topic and a supervisor. Confidentiality Only the gatekeeper has access to the submitted topics. 9

13 Editing Stage - plagiarism Since Spring Term 2010, the master thesis will be checked for plagiarism by a software. The software screens automatically, whether parts of the master thesis were copied from other sources without citing them. If this is the case, the program director can exclude the student from the program. 13

15 Assessment phase defense After the correction of the master s thesis, the students will defend their thesis 20 min oral presentation and questions & answers, total 45 min The date is fixed bilaterally preferably at the beginning of the master s thesis Only in exceptional cases, telecommunication will be used The grading weight is 80% thesis and 20% defense 15
