2 2.3 Student requirements: Students required to take this course: (by program and year, as appropriate) ACMTH-MS students in their first semester of study, ACMTH-BS/MS students in their penultimate year of study Students who might elect to take the course: Students majoring or minoring in mathematics or related fields 3.0 Goals of the course: (including rationale for the course, when appropriate) 3.1 To provide students with necessary research skills including reading and comprehending scholarly articles, performing a literature review, managing citations, writing a proposal, presenting scientific work orally and by poster, and refereeing a paper. 3.2 To expose students to active interdisciplinary research programs across RIT, both within and outside of the College of Science. 3.3 To give students the opportunity to interact with industrial and non-rit academic researchers in various fields. 4.0 Course description: (as it will appear in the RIT Catalog, including pre- and co-requisites, semesters offered) COS-MATH-606 Graduate Seminar I This course is a continuation of Graduate Seminar I. It prepares students to engage in activities necessary for independent mathematical research and introduces them to a broad range of active interdisciplinary programs related to applied mathematics.
