3 Letter from the Chair of Governors Dear Applicant Thank you, on behalf of the Governors, staff, parents and pupils of our school, for your interest in the post of Headteacher. This post has arisen because Mrs Leggett, our current Headteacher, is retiring at the end of the Summer term 2018 after four successful years. Avishayes is a popular, well managed, Primary Single Academy Trust with a Nursery, Early Years Foundation class and single form entry in Years 1-6. Our Good Ofsted was awarded in May 2015 following a judgement of Requires Improvement eighteen months before. This quick turnaround demonstrates the rapid progress that the school made and continues to make. Improving standards has been, and remains, a key focus for our school. We have a highly skilled and well-established workforce, comprising those who have been at the school for some time and those who have joined more recently. The leadership team is experienced, committed and hard-working and will provide tremendous support for the incoming Headteacher. All staff work tirelessly to support our children and seek out opportunities to develop their own practice and share learning with others. We are all committed to the inclusive ethos of our school and our SEN provision is recognised as being excellent. The children demonstrate good behaviours for learning and are engaged and enthusiastic in all aspects of school life. We encourage parents to be involved in the life of the school and work hard with them to support their children and the values of the school. The Governors are seeking to appoint a Headteacher who will build on current good practice and also bring a fresh perspective. We seek a candidate who has the willingness, energy and commitment to see the school reach the position of Outstanding which our children richly deserve. 5 Overview of Avishayes Built in 1968 Avishayes is one of three primary schools in the market town of Chard. It is situated in the eastern corner of the town and has increased in size as the town has expanded. The school is set in pleasant landscaped grounds that include a large field, a meadow, a wildlife area, a Forest School area and much more. In 1968 the first phase of the school was built. This includes seven teaching areas, resource area, assembly hall, SEN room, office and administration areas. In 2002 the school had a new Junior Teaching Block built accommodating the junior classes and a new Computer Suite, which is used for whole class teaching of ICT skills. The school has an Early Years Centre that includes both the Reception class and the school nursery which accepts children from the age of three. In August 2011 Avishayes converted to Academy Status. This gave the school greater autonomy and flexibility to enable it to become an even better provider to all stakeholders but especially the children. The school has a very active PTFA arranging a number of events to raise funds to provide vital extras for the school. Where to find Avishayes School

Strategic Direction and Development Develop a strategic view for the school in its community, identifying and determining its philosophy, overall aims and targets.
