1 Head of PE Teachers Pay and Conditions Main Pay Range ( 22,917-33,492) TLR ( 2,666) SEN Allowance ( 2,106) Temporary Contract, One Year ACE Schools Plymouth AP Academy (part of ACE Schools Multi Academy Trust) was formally set up on 1st June 2016 with the aim of building on the solid foundation established by the previous PRU. ACE Schools Plymouth operates from twelve sites around Devon & Cornwall and provides education and support services throughout the community to support pupils to access education in schools, community centers, medical facilities or their own homes. We offer outstanding opportunities in education for young people aged between 4 and 18 who do not attend mainstream schools for a variety of reasons including; medical need, risk of exclusion, behaviour, mental health diagnoses and SEN. We are looking for an experienced and innovative practitioner to lead our PE Department. You will be expected to lead teaching and support staff as well as teach pupils from KS3 KS4 within our city centre bases in Bretonside, Plymouth. You will be teaching small groups of Key Stage 3 and 4, and may be required to teach other subjects such as English or PSHE for example. You will be working with a friendly and supportive team with a wealth of experience. 2 Job Title Reporting To DBS Check Required Head of PE Headteacher Enhanced Job Purpose Supporting and leading the learning, teaching, attainment, progress and achievement of students within PE. Responsibilities Line managing staff who teach in the subject area To lead, monitor and evaluate the innovation and development of learning and teaching strategies PE To be accountable for student attainment and progress in PE, ensuring every student achieves and exceeds their potential To take a full role within the school community as a senior middle leader To lead the raising standards of student attainment within the PE subject faculty and the wider school Support the development and implementation of the vision and strategic direction of the school which reflects its educational and moral aspirations and values To ensure all PE students progress each year at least in line with the expected rate of progress and a significant number making more than expected progress To identify target groups of underachieving students in the faculty so that a suitable intervention plan is implemented ensuring that students have access to the appropriate resources and materials to catch up To undertake a designated programme of teaching which will include involvement of other activities such as PE Teach consistently high quality lessons Act as a role model through an open door policy to lessons and modelling best practice in lessons To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information for SIMs, registers To help lead the innovation and development of assessment and feedback strategies within the faculty to shape and further improve whole school policy To help lead the faculty monitoring and tracking systems relating to students attainment, progress and achievement Mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required Undertake assessment of students as requested by external examination bodies, curriculum areas and school procedures Organise faculty tracking of student progress and use information to inform learning and teaching Managing, setting and co-ordinating assessment arrangements in PE and in all areas as required by school policies, including standardising those assessments Contribute towards whole school CPD programmes To alert the appropriate staff to problems experienced by students

3 To communicate as appropriate, with the parents of students and with persons or bodies outside the school concerned with the welfare of individual students, after consultation with the appropriate staff To apply the Behaviour for Learning policy so that effective learning can take place Identify and establish cross curricular links to raise profile of subjects To undertake duties before the school day, at the end of the lunch period and after the school day on a rota basis To attend meetings scheduled in the school calendar punctually To lead the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the subject To be responsible for the day-to-day management, control and operation of course provision with the subject area, including effective deployment of staff and physical resources To implement College policies and procedures, e.g. Teaching and Learning, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, COSHH, Accommodation Strategy, etc To lead and manage the business planning function of the subject, including development plan, budget cost plan and self-evaluation (Dept. SEF) To ensure that Health & Safety policies and practices, including Risk Assessments, throughout the subject area are in-line with requirements, updated where necessary To lead curriculum development in the subject area, including planning, implementing and reviewing the curriculum within the framework of the National Curriculum and keeping up-to date with national developments and initiatives at national and regional level To ensure the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effective curriculum programme which complements the School s plans and priorities To develop and enhance the application of new technology learning resources in the subject area To maintain accreditation with the relevant examination and validating bodies To ensure that staff development needs in the subject area are identified and that appropriate programmes are designed to meet such needs To continue own professional development as agreed with Line Manager To make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent, ensuring appropriate cover learning activities To establish the process of the setting of targets for the subject area and to work towards their achievement To establish common standards of practice within the subject To make use of analysis and evaluate performance data provided and to identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from such data To organise GCSE and other public examination entries with the Examination Officer To act as a Form Tutor and to carry out the duties associated with that role as outlined in the generic job description To carry out the duties of a classroom teacher in accordance with the Teachers Conditions of Service To carry out a share of supervisory duties in accordance with published schedules To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues and parents relative to the above duties. To carry out any reasonable duties as determined by the Headteacher
