1 MEMORANDUM To: Karen Berasi From: Brian Hendrickson Re: SIP Mid-Year Updates Date: March 8, 2017 Attached to this memo are one page updates from each school regarding highlights on progress towards high leverage key measures from School Improvement Plans. In general, it is important to note that the use of School and District Improvement Plans has provided a clear focus for school and district efforts to improve outcomes for all students. Looking across the district as a whole, the major success year to date has been the implementation of structured PLCs in all grade levels. Specifically, PLCs are narrowing their focus on student work and student data from relevant benchmark assessments. At the elementary level, our focus on math has also been a highlight as our coach, curriculum leader, and district wide math consultant have led coaching and PD cycles on the core text (Investigations) and core 8 math practices. Additionally, school climate teams have been formed and are in the process of analyzing climate data such as attendance, office referrals, and student survey data in order to create the best possible learning environments. As for challenges, the major challenge faced across all schools is finding time for teachers, coaches, curriculum leaders, and administration to collaborate on best practices to improve student outcomes from both a socio-emotional and academic perspective. Each building principal will be prepared to give a brief update on progress towards key measures at the upcoming March 13 Board of Education meeting. At the June Board of Education meeting a comprehensive District Outcome Update will be presented that includes all available spring key measure data (i.e. SBAC, DRP, STAR, AP, ACT, etc.).
