1 Plymuth-Cantn al Park Curse Syllabus Curse Name: Cmputer Graphics and Design 1 Curse Number: Curse Descriptin: This is a full year curse that intrduces the student t the fundamental skills and knwledge needed t understand graphic design. Cmputer skill and design/drawing prcess are develped thrugh a series f prject-based assignments. Cmputer skills are hned using a wide range f cmputer sftware such as Adbe Phtshp, Illustratr and InDesign. Prjects include activities such as sketching, symbl/lg design, typgraphy, illustratin, pht editing, pster design, magazine/bk Layuts, t-shirt design and silk-screening. Students will als learn emplyability skills, self prmtin and have leadership pprtunities. Nte: Curse qualifies fr Visual, Perfrming, and Applied Arts graduatin requirement. Curse Prerequisites: There are n pre-requisites fr this class but it is strngly recmmended that a student shws interests in the arts and design. Curse Materials/Resurces: Textbks: Graphic Cmmunicatins 5th Editin (teacher will supply yu with handuts) Sftware: Adbe CS5 (fcusing n Phtshp, Illustratr and InDesign) Recmmended Student Supplies/Materials: Ntebk, Sketchbk, Flash Drive (1GB r Higher), Pens, Pencils and Eraser. 2 Plymuth-Cantn al Park Curse Requirements: Students will be required t shw prficiency in: Safety Elements and Principles f Design Design Sftware Prject Management File Management Image Output Finishing Operatins Screen Printing Wrk Based Learning is a valuable experience in which every student in Career and Technical is required t participate. All students will be given pprtunities t attend a minimum f ne field experience each schl year. Thse students wh d nt attend the scheduled experience(s) will be required t find a site where they will spend a minimum f ne class perid in a business related t their prgram f study. The student will be required t get the teacher s signed permissin, the parent/guardian s signed permissin, fill ut a training agreement t be signed by the site supervisr, and prvide their wn transprtatin t and frm the site. Upn cmpletin f the field experience, the student will turn in a questin and answer assignment prvided by the teacher regarding the experience. Grading System: Grades will be based n weighted averages in the fllwing areas: 50% Prjects This includes academics, technical skills, assignments and prjects. 20% Hmewrk Sketchbks, reading assignments and handuts. 20% Test & Quizzes Students will take a variety f test and quizzes t mnitr their grwth in class. 10% Participatin Student will ATTEND DAILY, LISTEN INTENTLY, ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE, RESPECT OTHERS, AND APPLY THEMSELVES TO THEIR BEST ABILITY. 5 Plymuth-Cantn al Park Curse Plicies & Expectatins Late Wrk (wrk turned in after determined / assigned due date): Tests/Quizzes must be taken day they are assigned Assignments that are turned in after the due date set by instructr 5% frm grade received will be deducted fr each day late, fr up t 5 days late Assignment turned in after 5 days will be evaluated by instructr, but the student will receive n mre than 50% fr their grade n the assignment. After 7 days the student will receive a zer. Make-up: Students will be allwed t make up all pssible wrk. It is the respnsibility f the student t btain missed assignments. It is pssible that certain kinds f schl wrk such as labs r skillpractice sessins cannt be made up and, as a result, may negatively impact a student s grade. In regards t making up wrk when student is absent, we will nt differentiate between excused versus unexcused. All students will have the pprtunity t make up missed wrk (see previus nte) Missed Assignments: Wrk assigned prir t an absence (including lng-term/majr prjects) Wrk is due upn return frm absence (Ex. A painting is due in Art class n Mnday when the student is absent. The student returns t schl n Tuesday. The assignment must be turned in n Tuesday) Wrk assigned n date f an absence - One day grace perid fr each day missed (Ex. If student is absent n Mnday, make-up wrk is prvided n Tuesday, and wuld be due n Wednesday) Missed Tests/Quizzes: Test missed n date f absence - If student has prir knwledge f test date and has had the pprtunity t take part in review sessin, student is expected t take test day f return.
