In addition to instructors and tutors, students have access to online tutoring 24/7. NOTE: a. Supplementary material, such as computer lessons/drill and practice, for many topics is easily accessible. b. Digital videos of the lessons are available to students. 2) Each student is responsible to attend a designated number of hours per week in the Mathematics Center: Math 50 students 4 hours and 35 minutes per week. These designated hours should be comprised of: a. Watching math digital videos b. Viewing the multimedia e-text c. Doing Homework assignments d. Asking tutors and/or instructor questions e. Taking online tests f. Taking/reviewing written exams 3) In addition to the above, students are expected to study outside of the Math Center about 8 hours per week. Use the properties of real numbers, order of operations, and properties of integer exponents (including scientific notation) to simplify and reorganize polynomial expressions. 2. Formulate algebraic expressions and equations using variables to represent relations from tables, graphs, problem situations, and geometric diagrams. 3. Analyze and solve linear equations, inequalities, and two variable systems of linear equations and interpret the solutions. 4. Analyze the connections between the numeric, algebraic, and graphic representations of linear relations and of quadratic relations. 5. Solve application problems involving linear, quadratic, proportional, and rational relationships and interpret the solutions. 6. Apply the principles of radicals in solving quadratic equations and equations resulting from the Pythagorean theorem. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs): Solve Linear Equations: Required Textbook: Attendance: Students will be able to solve Linear Equations Lial Introductory Algebra 11e Access Code, Pearson/Addison-Wesley. ISBN: (e-book included/ INTRODUCTORY ALGEBRA, 11 th Edition, Lial/Hornsby/McGinnis) After registering for this class, be sure to check-in and out (using Palomar ID number) each time you attend the Math Center. Since Math 50 is a 4-unit course, it is essential that you budget minimum of 4 hours and 35 minutes per week in the Math Center for a total of 72 hours for the semester. However, if you finish the course material in less than 72 hours, the attendance requirement will be waived for the remainder of the semester. If you are taking this class under the assumption that you do not need to attend the Math Center except for exams, this is wrong, and you could be dropped for non-attendance. If you decide to withdraw from the course, be sure to drop the class on e-services. Do not expect the Math Center Director to automatically drop you from the course. If for some compelling reason you are absent, please inform the Math Center Director. Otherwise, you could be dropped for non-attendance. You may also receive attendance credit for working on course materials in MyMathLab at either Academic Technology Lab, TLC/Escondido Center, or Camp Pendleton Computer Lab. All written exams must be taken at the Math Center on San Marcos Campus. Note: Study time should not be limited to your Math Center hours. You are expected to study outside of the Math Center. Online tutoring is available to you 24/7 in case you need any help.
