Student class Selection Worksheet, including possible electives 3. Part 2 - CORE Teacher Recommendation Form, completed. Do not submit other teacher recommendations. Teacher recommendation must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the teacher s signature across the seal. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE THE TEACHER MAIL THIS RECOMMENDATION, PLEASE ATTACH IT WITH THE OTHER MATERIALS. MAILING THE RECOMMENDATION CAN DELAY YOUR APPLICATION!!! 4. Application essay, (see instructions below) 5. A copy of your Middle School Transcript (does not need to be official) or Report Cards, Grades 6-8 (most current), you must show grades for grades 6-8, not just 8 th grade. 6. A copy of your most recent California State Standards test results. 7. If your student has a 504 or IEP please attach a copy of the most recent document. DO NOT SUBMIT ANY OTHER MATERIALS THAN THOSE REQUESTED. PLEASE, NO PLASTIC REPORT COVERS. SELECTION PROCESS: All applications that meet the minimum requirements, a fully completed application with requested materials, a score of 70% on the application essay, and a 70% average on the teacher recommendation, are placed in a pool from which students will be selected randomly for acceptance. INTRA DISTRICT TRANSFERS: There are a limited number of Intra-district seats available. All applications from students outside of the THS boundary will be placed in a separate pool and will also be subject to a random selection process. ROUND 1 ROUND 2: PENDING SPACE AVAILABILITY All completed qualifying applications received by 12/8/14, If there are any remaining seats after ROUND 1, qualifying 3:30 PM, will be assigned a number and placed in a pool from applications received after 12/8/14, will be randomly drawn which students will be selected randomly for acceptance. and assigned the remaining numbers. Narrative must earn a 70% or better on the enclosed rubric. TASK: Respond to ONE of the prompts below in no fewer than 1,000 words. Essay must follow standard essay format and rules of grammar as well as address all aspects of the prompt. Standard essay format includes having a clear introduction with thesis statement, body paragraphs, and a conclusion that addresses the thesis. A. Talk about daily life, from reading to playing games to communicating with others, has changed over the past hundred years because of technology. Use specific details and examples, explain how these advancements in technology have changed daily life and predict what advancements are in store for the future. B. Identify an enjoyable educational activity. It could be participating in a play, completing a science experiment, playing an instrument, or something else. Use specific details and examples to explain why the activity is enjoyable. C. Many professional athletes and entertainers earn large sums of money. Do you agree or disagree with these individuals making high salaries? Use specific details and examples to convince others to support your position.

5 Concert Band 6090: This is a course in musicianship and artistic training for 9 th grade students. There will be an emphasis on basic skills of instrumental musicianship through use of group exercises extensively. Concert Choir 6143: Students will develop proper individual vocal and ensemble singing techniques. This is a class for those with some previous singing experience. Students will rehearse and perform music of varied styles and periods and gain an understanding of basic musical notation. Singers will be required to represent the school in concert performances. Students can receive credit for 4 years in this class. Piano Keyboard 6100: Anyone who wishes to learn to play the piano or to improve their current skills may take this class. Music reading and musicianship skills will be taught. No previous piano experience necessary. Drama : This course is designed to give the students a survey of theater. Emphasis is placed on developing basic acting and improvisational skills through playwriting. Theater history, tech theater and careers in theater are also covered. Units include creative dramatics, monologue, duet acting, Shakespeare, and pantomime. Film Studies 6035: This course is an introduction to the study of film as an artistic medium. Students will analyze fiction and non-fiction films as well as create short video productions. Emphasis is placed on artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context and aesthetic valuing. Introduction to Art 6002: This course is a beginning level skill-based course to help students understand the basic visual symbols in the language of art. The elements and principles of art will be covered. Work in class is based specifically on fundamental classical elements of art: line, shape, value, color, form and texture. Keyboarding 1/Computer Literacy 4520: This course uses microcomputers to teach touch typing, word processing and basic document formatting. In addition, students taking this course will be introduced to the basic foundations of business. Units of instruction will include: functions of business, business environment, communications, introduction to financial concepts, technology applications, leadership development, career preparation and job acquisition. Life Management 1/Consumer Home Economics 5501: This course covers career planning, job skills, resource management, time management, nutrition, food preparation, menu planning, parenting, substance abuse, child care and development, healthy living, clothing and textiles, consumer education, decision making, problem solving, interior design, human relationships, and family development. Students will develop leadership skills by working in cooperative groups, practicing teamwork, defining goals and assessing personal leadership skills. Modern Language 1 Spanish 4033 / French 4013 Native Speakers use course Prerequisite: A in 8 th grade & English teacher recommendation Modern Language is a college preparatory class, a beginning study of the language of Spanish or French. Orchestra 6103: This is a course in musicianship and artistic training focused on orchestral literature. There will be a continued emphasis on basic skills of instrumental musicianship through a study of appropriate orchestral literature. Music history and theory will also be studied. Students will have the opportunity to perform in small ensembles or as soloists. Shop Skills : Shop Skills 1 is an introductory shop class designed to meet the needs of those students who wish to enhance their mechanical skills in a number of areas. Students will build projects in each of the areas to learn and demonstrate their skills. Small Animals & Horses 5331: This course covers the care and management of laboratory animals. Rats, reptiles, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice and rabbits are studied with limited handling experiences provided. The horse section covers the care and management of horses. Breeds of horses, horse selection, horse tack, equipment, and facilities are also part of this course. FFA participation is encouraged in this course.
