Teachers that are self-contained for grades K, 1, and 2 will attend all four content areas.) Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)** NTA (Novice Teacher Academy) Highly Recommended Sessions Sessions titled PBIS Conroe ISD Showcase New to CISD Required Sessions to Attend Content Sessions (You are required to attend the session(s) for the content(s) you teach. 12 CISD SHOWCASE #introtocisd The CISD Showcase is an opportunity to visit a live CISD classroom! Come see our recommendations for classroom set up as well as our best practices live in action. The Showcase is located in the Cafeteria and will be open all three days. SHOWCASE HOURS: Monday 8:45 AM - 4 PM Tuesday 8 AM - 3:30 PM Wednesday 8 AM - 2pm Classrooms are divided by Secondary, Elementary, and Special Education. We encourage you to walk through ALL of the rooms, regardless of what you teach. You will see examples of classroom management structures, get some great ideas for your classroom, observe lessons and demonstrations, and even get to hear words of wisdom from our own CISD students. Take pictures to preserve the experience and reference at a later date! Visit the various tables dedicated to our specialty areas to increase your knowledge about ALL that CISD has to offer to grow the whole child. Helpful Hints for the Showcase Download a QR Code Reader on your phone or tablet before you visit the Showcase. Take a pair of complimentary earbuds as you enter the Showcase. Take-away cards are available in all areas to add to the direction card you have in your bag. Write your name on the back of your tickets and drop them in the Win Me envelopes of your choice to win the display/material. You may drop them in any envelope you choose! Career & Technical Education (CTE) Content Area Session Cooperative Learning Dyslexia in the General Education Classroom Eduphoria, Forethought, and Workshop An overview of CISD CTE procedures and program funding. Participants will be provided an opportunity to ask questions and discuss best practices for implementing CTE programs. Much like Kagan's Strategies, Cooperative Learning is the instructional use of small groups so that students work together to maximize their own and others learning. It is more than group work! This training provides background on why and how cooperative learning works across all ages and content-areas, as well as equipping teachers with structures and methods of looking at their class to develop a community fostering students higher-level thinking and communication. This session will provide an overview of dyslexia, including what it is, a simulation of what it is like to be dyslexic, characteristics, and classroom considerations. Among other things, Eduphoria is used as a lesson planner (Forethought) and staff development catalog (Workshop). This session will focus on these two pieces of Eduphoria. Making CISD s Tier 1 Best Practices Non-Negotiable Our district s Tier 1 Best Practices are an integral part of our general education instruction which includes differentiating the content, process, product, and environment as well as the foundational research of multiple intelligences, cooperative learning, brain-based learning, and Marzano s research. We additionally believe in sustaining Differentiated Instruction through the management strategies of tiered assignments, flexible groupings, and anchor activities. The following items will be addressed throughout the training: Our Tier 1 Best Practices are research based. They are proven to be successful within our schools in the district. Meeting the Needs of Long-Term ELLs This session will focus on identifying who Texas Long-Term ELLs are in our classrooms, common characteristics, and how to help them develop the necessary literacy skills to meet state exit requirements. One-Way Dual Language Bilingual Program Model Overview This session will provide an overview of a one-way dual language bilingual program and the philosophy of biliteracy for all bilingual students. We will discuss the percentages of instruction in L1 and L2 at each grade level and share ideas and strategies for teaching in a dual language program model. NTA (Novice Teacher Academy) REQUIRED FOR NOVICE TEACHERS! PLCs in CISD Professional Learning Communities is an ongoing process where educators work collaboratively to evaluate recurring cycles of data to ensure student learning occurs and achieve better results for all students they serve. The work of PLCs includes intentional and continuous staff learning, which is essential in order for staff to make improvements to their own practice and truly impact student learning at higher levels. PLCs are action oriented, committed to continuous improvement and results oriented. In this session, participants will study their grade level curriculum, learn about resources to support instruction, and work to plan beginning of the year structures for the Early Childhood classroom. Requirements of High Quality PreK will also be shared. Principal Panel This session is designed for Novice Teachers. Experienced principals will share tips for success in managing issues such as professional etiquette, working with teams, parent contacts and more. Quality Questioning In this session, participants will develop a complete framework for preparing questions, presenting questions, prompting student responses, processing student responses, teaching students to generate questions and reflecting on questioning practice. REACT Roles & Responsibilities of Staff to Support Special Education Students Ruby Payne: A Framework for Understanding Poverty Teachers in the classroom are the Counselors first line of defense. Learn how to recognize students who are experiencing a mental health crisis and learn what resources you have to assist your students. Learn to work collaboratively to ensure success for all students. This session will give you an overview of information to help you understand class differences and 10 actions you can implement the next day in the classroom to impact the achievement of students from poverty. 27
