1 Job escription Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Sport Psychology Practitioner (xperience of working in football) School/irectorate School of Social and Life Sciences Section Job Title Grade Reports To Sports Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Sport Psychology Practitioner (xperience of working in football) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Associate Head Principal Accountabilities epartment of Sport has a thriving teaching and research environment with a growing population of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The department delivers a range of high quality degree programmes in BSc Coaching Science and BSc Football and the Performance Specialist (applied sport science). The department is seeking to extend its portfolio and wishes to extend its provision in the specialist area of the psychology of player development in football (main role) and promote an increased understanding of how sport can be used as a vehicle for influencing behavioural change (minor role). The post holder will have experience of working in the capacity as a psychologist in the area of individual/player development in football. The post holder will therefore demonstrate the ability to work across the performance spectrum in football, from grass route to high performance level, demonstrating the ability to work with psychological issues across the age range. In addition, the post holder will demonstrate the ability to use sport as a mechanism to bring about behavioural change. The post holder will illustrate how sport has the power to address health and mental health issues within the general population. The post holder will be responsible for leading the development of an applied and innovative curriculum which is informed by research and which links external organisations and partners. The post holder will lead in their specialist area and be able to demonstrate original research activity through publications, networking and impact. An enthusiastic and dynamic specialist is sought to join an innovative and experienced team of academics. The post holder will be responsible for the development (or contributing to the development) of an innovative hybrid degree programme in the areas of BSc Coaching Science, BSc Football and the Performance Specialist and health, physical activity and behavioural change. The post holder will be required to manage and teach modules relating

2 to sport psychology, psychology of football, coaching science and contribute to health psychology (behaviour change). The post holder will also be able to contribute to research methods were relevant. The post holder will support student s development through the personal tutorials and will supervise undergraduate and post graduate dissertations. The post holder will have an emerging track record in applied work / research and will be able to contribute to developing research profile of the department. This post holder may have a background and passion in the football psychology, player development and psychological issues across the age range. The post holder will also demonstrate an understanding of how sport can be used as a vehicle to facilitate health benefits across the age range. This element of the post will account a small percentage of delivery but will explore how sport can be used to enhance the health benefits of all individuals. The post holder will demonstrate the ability to design and implement innovative approaches to enhancing student learning experience and have knowledge of blended learning. The post-holder will also engage with research, scholarly and enterprise activities in accordance with the Universities strategic framework and participate in wider academic-related activities. Contribute to and serve as appropriate on internal committees, working on advisory groups. ngage with the generation and income including research, consultancy, third stream income generation and enterprise. ngage with and promote the University s equal opportunities policies in all settings. Take active responsibility for the development of curriculum design which complements and aligns new initiatives in contexts of existing programme portfolios within the School of Social and Life Sciences. This includes: nsuring the teaching and learning delivery, assessment, recording and monitoring are of a high standard. In addition, ensure that all academic processes and operations are undertaken with high academic quality in the subject and are in line with the University s objectives, policies and frameworks. Lead academic programmes in area of expertise. ffectively communicate with and co-ordinate staff responsible for contributions to academic programmes and projects. nsure that all delivery relating to teaching and learning is undertaken and executed

3 at the highest standard for teaching and learning. nsure that all elements required to effectively deliver the programme are in place and that processes / delivery mechanisms are in line with current procedure and are up to date. Any staffing or student issues relating to welfare, teaching and learning issues, recruitment or withdrawals are reported to the associate head. ffectively update and communicate with the associate head on subject area issues. ffectively contribute to the development of documentation relating to curriculum design, delivery and development at undergrad and post graduate level as required. Contribute to the development of new stand-alone modules and CP modules for applied professionals. ffectively contribute to the student experience, progression, examination and assessment of students as outlined by the associate head. ffectively engage with student recruitment, selection and induction process as outlined by the associate head. Support the development of students through the Personal, Professional and Academic framework, in addition to the personal tutorial system. ffectively engage with pedagogical teaching activities to ensure a high standard of teaching and learning delivery, assessments and monitoring. ffectively contribute to the initiate, development or implementation of departmental projects in either a supporting or lead role. ffectively organise, record and communicate administrative tasks in an effective manner. esign an appropriate learning environment which encourages the students to actively engage with their learning and support the developmental of the autonomous learning through independent learning. Initiate, develop and maintain links with external partners, organisations. ffectively perform other duties associated with the subject area as outlined by the associate head. Additional duties expected from staff: Maintain awareness and engage with Wrexham Glyndwr University Performance Review process and participate in other university processes as required (Health and Safety etc.).

Comply with university policies and procedures relating to all aspects of employment. Secondary areas are desirable in one of the following research methods, coaching science, skill acquisition and football, behavioural change and exercise & health psychology.,w/l

6 2.3 Ability to demonstrate an understanding relevant guidelines relating to player pathways, talent development and/or PPP. 2.4 Ability to demonstrate knowledge of blended learning, online learning platforms and /or distance learning and its application of performance psychology and applied football psychology. 2.5 vidence of recent high quality publications in peer reviewed journals. 2.6 vidence of national and/or international research reputation 3.1 Appropriate academic qualification at post graduate level - Master s egree in the relevant subject area (Football, Coaching Science, Sports Psychology, Psychology, Behavioural Psychology, Sports Science) 3.2 High level of teaching and presentation skills and can identify and incorporate innovative practices in learning and teaching. 3.4 Ph in relevant subject area or close to completion of Ph thesis and viva (within 6 months) (Football, related subject area) 3 ducation & Training 3.5 vidence of professional qualifications (or demonstration of prior enrolment and engagement in the accreditation process) in one of the following recognised pathways: BASS accredited sport and exercise scientist; BPS chartered status (or BPS Stage 1, preferably Stage 2) 3.6 Health and Care Professions Council HCPC registration (Practitioner Psychologist) 3.7 PG certificate in Teaching in H, or equivalent qualification (e.g. Fellowship of Institute of Higher ducation, HA recognition); or willingness to work towards it. 3.8 Must demonstrate commitment to continual professional development and a proven track record of professional development. 3.9 High level of teaching and presentation skills and the ability to critically reflect on personal practice as a mechanism for improving personal performance.
