Homework Due Monday!!! if the perimeter is 29.7cm Q5. Calculate the distance Derek travels if he drives at a speed of 90kmph for 3 hours Quick Recap of Averages Stem and Leaf Diagrams Add all the numbers together then divide by how many there are Mean The most frequent or popular number. Mode Key :- Median The middle number or if there are 2 middle numbers, them added together then 2 Range The difference between the highest and the lowest. Stem and Leaf Diagrams Example: Create a stem and leaf diagram to display the points scored in the Scottish Premiership. State the median number of points and the range Stem and Leaf Diagrams Question: Draw a back-to-back stem and leaf diagram to display the average maximum temperatures for Scotland and those for England 5 0 C 5 0 C 7 0 C 9 0 C 13 0 C 15 0 C 17 0 C 17 0 C 14 0 C 11 0 C 7 0 C 6 0 C 7 0 C 7 0 C 10 0 C 12 0 C 16 0 C 19 0 C 21 0 C 21 0 C 18 0 C 14 0 C 10 0 C 7 0 C
2 Daily Practice Q1. Round to the nearest unit Q x 8 Q3. If the perimeter of this triangle is 17cm, calculate the length of the missing side 6.7cm Today we will be learning how to draw dot plots. Homework Due! Q4. Multiply out 3(x - 5) 5.45cm Q5. -7 x 5 Dot Plots Dot Plots Example: A survey was carried out on how long it takes a number of people to eat breakfast in the morning. The results are below No. of minutes No. of people i) Draw a dot plot to display this information ii) State the median time iii) State the modal time iv) State the range Q1. Round 1892 to the nearest 100 Q2. Find 2 / 5 of 780 Q3. Simplify the ratio 36:42 Today we will be learning how to draw pie charts. Q (-2) Q5. If a = 5 and b = - 1, what is the value of 2a + b 2?
3 Pie Charts Pie charts are extremely useful for visualising data. They must always be clearly labelled. Example: Create a pie chart to display the transport method that S3 students take to school Transport Method Frequency Car Bus Cycling Walking Other Total Fraction & Angle Fav. Music Type Frequency Pop Rock/Metal Indie Techno./Dubstep Rap Other Total Fraction & Angle Daily Practice Mental Maths 20 Questions Today we are going to learn how to draw scattergraphs. Scattergraphs A scattergraph is a graph that compares two sets of data that affect each other (correlate). The data is positively correlated if one increases as the other increases. e.g. sales of ice-creams and temperature. The data is negatively correlated if as one increases the other decreases. e.g. heating usage and temerature outside. Scattergraphs Example: Below are the results of a Maths test and a Science test for a group of students. (a) Draw a scatter graph for the following data sets (b) Draw the line of best fit (c) Using the line of best fit, calculate how much a student should get in Science if they get 54% in Maths The line of best fit on a scatter graph roughly goes through the middle of all the points on the graph. Maths Science
4 Scattergraphs Q x 90 Daily Practice C 12 0C 14 0C 20 0C 22 0C 24 0C 27 0C Q2. Round to the nearest unit Q3. Solve 2k - 1 = 17 Q cm Q5. Calculate the perimeter Reading Pie Charts Example: The following pie chart shows the transport methods of a group of 300 people who commute to work Bus Bike 80 0 Walk Car 60 0 Train Today we will be learning how to work out information using pie charts. Calculate how many people took each method by first working out the fraction for each
