1 General WOW Team Information WOW Team Returner 2019 Application WOW Team works under the supervision of WOW Board, the Program Coordinators, and the Director for. The WOW Team will be trained in academic & social resources, awareness topics, social & self-awareness, professionalism, customer service, and event planning among others. All WOW Team 2019 members will serve as Facilitators and will receive comprehensive training during Winter and Spring Quarters. Through this, they will learn how to provide appropriate feedback and support for Leaders in Training, while also learning how to work on a team with diverse personalities and leadership styles. WOW Team Members will be responsible for the training, continued evaluation, and final selection of Orientation Leaders. Facilitators will be expected to review, develop, and convey training material accurately, while creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for Leaders in Training. WOW Team Returner Responsibilities: Evaluate Leaders in Training in preparation for SLO Days and WOW Educate and provide leadership development to Leaders in Training Assist in WOW Team Special Projects Act as a role model and professional ambassador when representing New Student & Transition Programs and Cal Poly Opportunity for Staff in Charge positions for WOW 2019 Coordinate and implement Facilitator Training Modules under the Orientation Board Provide context and give advice on WOW Team Member responsibilities Lead team building opportunities and act as a role model to First Time WOW Team Members WOW Team Returner Qualities and Expectations: Attitude o Demonstrates motivation to grow personally and professionally with clear intentions of improving o Works through changes and demonstrates flexibility o Eagerly participates in the implementation and planning of new ideas and special projects o Supports and upholds changes to o Aware of attitude and its influence on your environment

3 WOW Team Returner 2019 Required Qualifications Must be able to commit to Winter and Spring Quarter 2019 (WOW 2019 participation optional) Must be a full time Cal Poly student in Winter and Spring 2019 quarters Must be in good judicial standing with the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities Higher Education cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher at the time of application and throughout commitment Must have previously been an Orientation or WOW Team Member Additional Returner Duties and Expectations WOW Team Returners will also be responsible for the training and mentoring of First Time WOW Team Members through the presentation and communication of Facilitator Training Modules. Each WOW Team Returner will be expected to present on various topics related to Facilitation, including but not limited to: giving feedback, 4:1 s and 1:1 s, show-stoppers, and evaluating Leaders in Training. WOW Team Returners will also provide advice and small-group guidance through weekly Facilitator Training meetings per the guidance of the Orientation Board.

4 Committee Descriptions In addition to complying with all responsibilities of Facilitation, WOW Team members will also assist in special projects for the four other committees as necessary. Each committee is led by one or more Board members, who will be assisted by one or more WOW Leads. The following are descriptions of all four committees: Mustang Way to Success (MWTS) This committee works to create our programming that touches on the important topics of transition such as alcohol and drugs, sexual misconduct, mental health, and diversity and inclusion. In addition, this committee works closely with Cal Poly s College Advising Centers and Mustang Success Center to ensure that we are providing our incoming students with all the resources they need to be academically successful here. In addition, this committee works with the Cross Cultural Centers to develop and implement the Cross Cultural Experience (CCE). Overseeing the Special Project this committee works from the beginning to recruit Leads and WOW Team Members to oversee this unique aspect of the program. Working throughout Winter and Spring Quarter this committee will develop all recruitment, training, and events for CCE. Examples of prior Special Projects for MWTS include: Awareness Gallery Cross Cultural Experience Sexual Misconduct: Statistics Visualization Sexual Misconduct: String Activity Strengths of the Week Events, Resources, & Logistics (ERL) This committee is responsible for all the events, Service Days, resource education, and vendor communication for Orientation Board, WOW Team, Spring Training, and the Week of Welcome program. Working to offer a large variety of experiences this committee is committed to making The Week inclusive of all abilities and their desired extroversion. This committee works to make sure our WOW Leaders have all the knowledge needed or can find it in order to answer questions about resources. Examples of prior Special Projects for ERL include: Event Assistant Resource Speeches Resource Visits Service Day Point Person

5 WOW Operations This committee strives to make sure that all programming, volunteer management, systems, procedures, and WOWWeb are executed flawlessly throughout Board, Team, Spring Training, and WOW. Working with every committee s events, activities, and campaigns, this committee provides the necessary infrastructure for all logistics, space reservations, production schedules, equipment rental, movement of individuals, and crowd control. Examples of prior Special Projects for WOW Operations include: DLS Team Transfer Experience Tour Training Workshop E-Staff WOWWeb Training Promotions, Marketing, and Communication (PMC) PMC has the responsibility of managing fundraising, driving WOW recruitment, advancing department and program promotion initiatives, building marketing campaigns, and executing the communications plan. This committee manages communication and promotion logistics by going behind the lens, driving social media campaigns, designing dynamic materials and publications and gaining Learn By Doing experiences. 7 Application Timeline and Procedure Applications accepted beginning on Thursday, September 27 at 12:00 PM and are due by Wednesday, October 10 at 4:00 PM Submit your application via to o Due to number of applicants, it is possible not everyone will be selected for an interview. You will be notified by Friday, October 12 if you do not receive an interview. o Office will be open Monday through Thursday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Friday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM When you turn in your application, you will sign up for your personal interview time. Personal interviews will run from Monday, October 15 to Wednesday, October 31 You will be placed into an Observational Interview time based on your preferences (see following page) and availability when confirmed WOW Team 2019 selections will be communicated by phone on November 13 from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM If you are interested in applying to be a part of the Cross Cultural Experience Special Project, you will also sign up for an interview with the New Student & Transition Programs and Cross Cultural Centers Professional Staff when you submit your written application.

9 WOW Team Returner 2019 Application Questions Please type your answers to the questions below on a separate piece of paper. (250 word limit per question) 1. Include a resume with the following information: a. Your Full Name b. Your San Luis Obispo address, telephone number, and Cal Poly c. Your major, class standing, and expected graduation date d. List any other experience and leadership roles by year (NSTP, ASI, Dean of Students, Clubs & Organizations, employment, etc.) e. List your Winter 2019 and Spring 2019 commitments along with the approximate number of hours per week (include other jobs, extra and co-curricular activities, etc.) Please provide thoughtful, direct responses to the following application questions. Limit your responses to no more than 250 words for each question. Attach to your resume of information above (item 1). 2. Taking from your previous Team experience, what aspects of the program do you think needs the most improvement? How can you aid in that improvement? 3. How can you use your leadership style to innovate and guide new Facilitators? 4. What is the biggest challenge you anticipate in the role of a Returner? 5. Looking at the Returner Qualities and Expectations and reflecting on your previous Team experience, which area did you struggle with and which did you find come easy? 6.
