Browsers Internet Explorer (IE8) Firefox (15) Safari (3) The test delivery software requires JavaScript and pop-up windows to be enabled in your browser. You will need to have Adobe Reader installed to view and download pdf documents (available from N.B. Some of the brand new pretests may not run on all browsers. The test delivery software requires JavaScript to be enabled on your browser. Please contact eltpretesting@oup.com if you would like support documentation on enabling JavaScript. Some types of Pretest also require Java version 6 update 9 or above. Bandwidth: To take a test, we recommend a broadband internet connection with a bandwidth of at least 500kb/s per client taking the test. Bandwidth is divided between the number of client machines (a 2mb/s with 4 client machines will deliver 500kb/s per client). 27 P a g e
28 Frequently asked questions Can students pause the test? The test cannot be paused once it has been started. Why is there no link to the test when the students log in? If you log in after the time period has expired you will not be able to access the test, either to answer the questions or to review a completed test. In some circumstances it is possible to extend the pretesting period; please contact eltpretesting@oup.com to enquire. The test screen has disappeared and I m getting the message, Sorry your session has expired. Please refresh your browser window to continue. If the time limit expires without the student submitting his or her answers, they are automatically taken out of the test. To gain access to the marked test, you will need to press the Refresh icon on your Internet browser, or else re-enter the website address ( in the address bar. 28 P a g e
29 Why is the audio not playing correctly? You must have Flash Player 10 installed on the computer for the audio questions to play correctly. Note that on certain versions of Flash Player (e.g. version ) the audio plays at double speed. To solve this problem, please install the latest version of Flash Player from How can I stop students copying from each other s screens? Pretesting should be carried out under test conditions with an invigilator present in the test room for the entire test. If there are more computers in the room than you need, you might also consider spacing the students out so that one sits at every other computer. How do we tell you what we think of the tests? Feedback is an essential part of the pretesting process, and once your students have completed the test we will begin to send out questionnaires. To enable us to do this, please ask students to enter their address on the Test Registration page, and register your own address when logging into your version of the test. Providing addresses is not compulsory, and we won t pass your personal information on to anyone. I have a question about the test that isn t covered by this Handbook If you have any further questions, please us at eltpretesting@oup.com. Glossary Pretest a free sample test students take. Licence a code that gives a student a free pretest. Session a period of time you set up on the system for students to take a pretest.
