MACS and BUS2301 cont. Do not ask your professors about assistance for MAC as they will direct you to call myitlab support. If your assignments or training are late or you are unable to write exams due to technical issues the usual late assignment/training or missed exam penalties will apply. 6

Evaluation cont. In order to be successful in this course, students are expected to spend a minimum of three (3) hours per week on out-of-class assignments and doing their training. 15

EVALUATION cont. A student will get full Training Marks as long as a score of 80% or better has been achieved prior to the scheduled exam date. Students must pass ALL of the 4 exams with a grade of 50% or better to pass the course. Additionally students MUST have an overall average of 50% or better to pass the course if a student fails 1 of the 4 exams, then the student fails the course. Rewrites a maximum of two failed/missed exams may be re-written, with a maximum mark of 65% 16

EVALUATION cont. To Summarize To pass the course a student must end the course with an overall grade of 50% or better, AND must pass each of the 4 exams with a grade of 50% or better. This means that a student who ends the course with a failing grade on even one exam, fails the course. Only 2 re-writes of failed exams are allowed with a maximum score of 65% allowed for the exam(s) 17

Evaluation cont. PRINT OUT EVERY MODULE EXAM MARK Put this printout in a SAFE place This is your BACKUP COPY If a MARK is incorrect in myitlab and/or Blackboard at a later date, your BACKUP is your PRINT-OUT 18

REWRITES TIMING IS EVERYTHING pay attention to the schedule. All exams must be done within the designated time frames The REWRITE week is for students who failed an exam ONLY. Up to 2 failed exams (grade of less than 50%) may be rewritten during the scheduled REWRITE week No other extensions will be allowed ie a 3rd failed exam or missed exam deadline means an immediate "F" on the course. The maximum grade you can get for a REWRITE exam is 65% 19

REWRITES cont. An exam not completed by the deadline specified in the schedule will be considered a failed exam. IF you DO miss an exam early in the course that you then-can only rewrite 1 other exam. Later exams, especially Excel, & Word are more difficult. Missed exams should be reserved for situations where you absolutely cannot attend the exam, for medical reasons, OR: extreme extenuating circumstances. 20

21 Assignment Policy ATTENDANCE will be taken You must be IN CLASS in order to get a mark for the assignment PROVIDED THAT you are in class you may complete the assignment at home Assignments are due at Midnight, the night before the class it s due. If you submit an assignment late you will lose 20% of the mark per day after the due date. IF YOU MISS THE CLASS, YOU WILL RECEIVE A PENALTY of 30% deducted from whatever your assignment mark is

myitlab Integrity Violations (plagiarism) Myitlab assigns id codes to files that you download Submitting another student s file will cause myitlab to flag your work as an integrity violation, i.e. plagiarized In order to avoid integrity violations on your work Do not use another student s file Do not use another student s computer, usb key, external hard drive, etc. Penalty for Integrity Violations You will receive a mark of zero for the assignment, as will the other student indicated as a source 22

ASSIGNMENTS READ INSTRUCTIONS VERY, VERY CAREFULLY!! You have to be very, very careful with ALL the components in myitlab. The software is extremely specific - it IS case-sensitive, and if you add a space where there shouldn t be (or vice versa), or forget to include a punctuation mark(or vice versa), myitlab will mark it wrong. When you do your assignments, you must read the instructions extremely carefully, not skimming over any of the instructions, just in case you miss a tiny requirement. 23

PRINT OUT ASSIGNMENT MARKS Please make sure that as soon as you get your MARK for ANY assignment, that you do the following: DO NOT CLOSE the dialog box with your mark on it- -before doing the following: 1. Hit your PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard 2. Open MS WORD 3. PASTE 4. Enlarge the screen capture, so that it s readable 24

5. PRINT out your MARK, AND SAVE the file to the DESKTOP then UPLOAD the file to SkyDrive 6. You may now close the dialog box. There have been some students who have gotten their mark, but when they close the dialog box with the mark on it - they receive a 0 in their GRADEBOOK. (This is the mark that I see). This print out will be your backup copy - put it in a safe place, until after you receive your final grade for the course. 25

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT ALGONQUIN STUDENT ID CARDS will be checked for ALL exams Also note College Directive E39 Use of Electronic Devices in the Academic Environment 26

Cheating Cheating is grounds for dismissal To write any exam, you need to produce a ALGONQUIN COLLEGE STUDENT ID CARD. The purpose of the training is to teach you what you don t know, so you can pass your final. If someone else does your training/work for you, you will not be in a position to pass the final exam. 27

Exam and Assignment Due Date See the 14 Week (Mon Thu) or 13 Week (Fri) planners for your Winter 2012 due dates Week 4 is the first set of exam, training, and assignment submissions 28
