1 January 09 Dear Parents/Guardians, ANDERSON PRIMARY SCHOOL 9 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 Singapore Tel: (65) Fax: (65) Web: anderson_ps@moe.edu.sg Holistic for Primary 5 Holistic (HA) is an important part of teaching and learning which provides useful information to your child/ward, your child s/ward s teachers and you. In the implementation of HA, our school will use a range of appropriate assessment modes for different purposes to support the development of the whole child. The range of assessment modes allows our teachers to gather information about students learning and provide to the students on their mastery of concepts and skills as well as their strengths and areas for improvement. For parents/guardians, this can also help you support your child s/ward s learning and growth. To ensure rigor and standards of the learning outcomes, our school s overall HA plan includes both s (non-weighted) and s (weighted). a. s (Weighted) s are used to assess and report on students level of achievement of learning objectives. These are weighted and the marks obtained are counted towards the overall results at the end of the year. Please note that for s and, the percentage of the weighted assessments will add up to 00%. Subjects SA SA English Language, Mathematics, Science & Mother Tongue Languages 70% b. s () The goal of formative assessments is to gather timely that can be used by teachers and students to guide improvements on the on-going teaching and learning. These are developmental assessments and do not carry any weighting towards the final scores. The information is also helpful for students to assess and reflect on their Learners with Passion. These formative assessments are carried out using different subject-appropriate modes of assessment, for example, mini tests, performance assessments and problem solving tasks. Mini tests will be conducted during common level timeslots whereas the rest will be held throughout the year. Different modes of subject-specific will be provided for the assessment tasks. The aims to guide the students in their learning progress. Details of the HA plan by subjects can be found on our school website.
