Comment Extremely animated and enthusiastic, relates well to students, very knowledgeable. enthusiasm and engagement Elliott was a great professor that showed interest in students' perspectives and also provided us with information privy to the course that was current; moreover his teaching methods were clear, and I found it very manageable to organize my notes/study schedule to meet Elliott's standards. Easy to understand and great at explaining material. Interesting to listen to, and had a lot of good applications of concepts to real world info. Elliott had great energy in his class, he is clearly passionate about teaching and engages students well. Very personable. Easy to engage with. very clear in his lectures, great tone, so attractive I liked his in class participation component to the course. Makes you think things through in a different way. Great sense of humour, clear and organized He is very passionate and articulate, therefore inspired the class to be excited about the material. HI enjoyed the video's, discussions, an research findings he presented as it helped me tie concepts in class to the real world. Good lecturer Knows his stuff well, was very good at answer students questions clearly Approachable & kind, made it easier to ask questions He didn't do anything in particular. Elliot is very friendly, and is knowledgeable about the content. Tries to make class more interesting with though provoking questions and some group work. Was very good at explaining concepts and always have us more than one example He used really relatable examples and phrased his explanations in multiple ways to help us to understand. He answered our questions really clearly, and made an effort to tell us what the current research says on certain topics, including researching answers to our questions. Clear and funny and engaging Professor Lee is incredibly passionate and enthusiastic about his subject material. He brings humour to every class and creates a very inviting and welcoming learning space. He engages the class in group discussion and gives us opportunities to mull over the information he presents. His quizzes are really well made and help solidify the information at a deeper level. He was open to constructive criticism and gave us a means of offering suggestions as to how to improve the course mid way, allowing us to have input into our learning experience. Always in a good mood, provided class engagement, the format of the course was great (Quizzes, two exams, an assignment), because the slides weren't normally added, it forced me to write my own which was kind of nice, but we did cover a lot of material. Overall one of the best instructors I have had and I appreciate his hard work and dedication to the class! Elliott was very enthusiastic about looking for new and current research and if any students made reference to a study he was unsure of, he always wrote it down and followed up on it in the next class. Elliot is clearly very intelligent and outgoing, and his lectures were engaging Elliott was enthusiastic and made the classes interesting while adding a younger flavour to how he taught the material which made things relatable. If there were questions in class he did not have answers to he would go searching for the answer and provide that in the next class which i thought was very good. Please provide specific suggestions as to how the instructor (Elliott Lee) could have helped you learn more effectively. Comment Elliott should leave the curl in his hair more often instead of slicking it back. Sometimes Elliott would start talking to quickly, and not everything he was saying would even be mentioned on the slides,

7 important content or not might be useful to students so they don't stress out when they miss things he's saying. Elliott needs to slow down his lectures, he tends to say the same thing a few times but can never quite clearly understand as he moves on so quickly. Think more quality than quantity in what he says. More concise explanations of concepts. They were often unclear, possibly due to how much information he was including in his explanations of concepts. sometimes speedy probably don't drink a ton of coffee before lectures, leave your hair curly more often unreal Need a bit more info on in class slides, especially with extra material outside or as supplement to text. Speaking slower, more detailed slides. Put up notes!!!!!!!!!!!!! Speak a little slower. You speak so fast that the info you give doesn't feel like it is very important. It sounds like you're just talking about stuff The lectures were so fast, I understand that it is a summer course so there is more material to cover but since the slides were not posted I found that I was always rushing to try and get all the material down as Elliot speaks very fast and moves the slides fast. He did mention to tell him to slow down but I would literally be putting up my hand every 10 minutes to tell him to slow down if that was the case and didn't seem like there was any point in that case. I did well on all the quiz assignments but found that they were very inconsistent in how much each was worth. Sometimes the questions were worth 6 points or just 2 points but still required the same amount of content answered for the question that was just worth 2 points. In regard to the paper, Elliot told us in class the guidelines of the paper and that it did not need to include references that you could just use the textbook but if you want a better mark include references. That statement on its own seems contradictory to me. I included many references but some other students expressed how they hadn't and then go marks docked for that specific reason. The paper was my worst score in the class when I received A's in everthing else. While an outline was provided I think the idea of the paper itself was not as clear as it could have been. More Power points Writing more on his lecture slides. Sometimes there would be a lot said about a particular topic but the lecture slide only had a few words on it. It's easier for me to follow if I see it written down and I'll be less likely to miss things. Similarly having printable notes would help so I'm not rushing to write everything down Post more notes and stay on track more Provide a different text book speak slowly Providing notes from the beginning and outlines for what we will cover and what is key would have been beneficial. Otherwise, Elliott's energetic personality caused many of us to get lost in the lectures. Having notes to follow while he talked could have helped our focus and clarity. I think the instruction could have been more effective if the lectures had been more clear. I found the lectures difficult to follow at times, and the examples could have been clearer and more applicable to concepts. There were a few concepts that are likely difficult to teach and i feel like Elliott's lack of experience may be the reason he wasn't able to get a few concepts across as he didn't know how else to explain it in a way that made sense. I didn't feel like i could approach Elliott as easily about a course mark or something that I am misunderstanding but I am unsure as to why. Please provide specific suggestions as to how this course could be improved. Comment Be more specific on the quiz questions, it was sometimes difficult to know what you were asking of us, and we would lose marks for not including things we didn't know we were supposed to include. Online quizzes were awesome, but if they weren't only open on Friday nights for less 24 hours that would ideal students with jobs/other responsibilities may find the time frame (as I did) a little too tight. More clear expectations on quizzes and lecture slides posted to keep up with his speed. Not much really i liked how it was sort of atypical to most classes now a days (which fits well with the topic of the class). His online quizzes really made you think about the material rather than the typical read and regurgitate like most classes. Not only looking at the McAdam's book. Study guides, extended time for the quizes. ie open Friday after class, due Sunday night. The course felt like it was designed for students not to do good especially marking. The marking wasn't fair. When you did as the instructor asked the TA claimed he had other instructions. So you as a student had to find a middle ground and this was especially apperantly on the assignment. The midterm test felt like it wasn't even related to the main topics of the class. It was waaaaaay too detail oriented which makes me think that the instructor forgot the fact that we are in a condensed course. The inclass quizzes didnt open up until after class, I was able to get an extension because I work afterwards but even with that said on average they quizzes took me four hours which is a long time for 3 questions!!! Having the quiz open up earlier, since majority of the answers are pulled through the text would be helpful.

8 Just making it more clear as to how each topic fits together and fits in with the bigger picture, and being more clear about whether theories can overlap and go together or if certain things are opposing theories. It was good The textbook was very dense, and it was hard to stay motivated to keep up with readings because of this. More videos, but overall great instructor which made the course interesting too! 1.The textbook was very biased and unscientific. It is misleading because the author appears to be writing about different studies and what those researchers found, but really the majority of the textbook is about mentioning studies in passing and then spouting off whatever he personally interprets. Now, I don't know what of the material I read I should really believe. It was also pretty expensive. It could be beneficial to look into choosing a different textbook in the field. 2.The quizzes were not quizzes, they were assignments. It should not take over 3 hours to write a quiz. The weekly assignments were good because they forced you to know the textbook material, but it was unfair to have them due the same day. Next time, it would be better to have them open earlier (such as on Thursday) so that students have a whole weeknight to work on it (even if we haven't finished covering the material yet it would still be better) or have the deadline extended until Monday morning. I usually work on Friday nights as well as the whole weekend so I was forced to rush through the assignments right after class even though I really didn't have time for it. If there was a more time, I could have allotted better time and focus to complete the assignments. the quizzes tended to be really challenging and took 2 4hrs to complete. Also, for a summer course there was a LOT of dense and boring readings to do and some of those reading expectations seemed a bit much. My Instructor gave time in class to complete this survey.
