3 WELCOME Welcome to our School Year! This September we are pleased to again offer our most popular programming, as well as exciting new courses, for early childhood, school-aged children, and adult learners. New this fall is our exciting Band Enrichment Program (BEP) for students aged 9 to 18 years. This program for concert band offers weekly sectionals and band rehearsals for flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, baritone, tuba, and percussion. We are excited to bring the energy of a student band to the building, and look forward to their performances in December and June. Our signature Smart Start classes offer an unparalleled learning experience for young children from birth to age 6. Smart Start classes are also available in French, Farsi and for children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Taught by leading early childhood music educators with ongoing support from our research centre, Smart Start provides a solid musical foundation by combining the latest research in neuroscience with traditional early childhood learning methods. For children aged 3 to 18 we continue to offer a unique and comprehensive learning experience at all levels and abilities through the Music Enrichment Program (MEP) or Music Enrichment Plus (MEPlus). Each student who enrolls in MEP will receive instruction in a one-on-one setting, solo performance experience, studies in theory and history, and assessment by an Examiner from The Royal Conservatory College of Examiners. MEPlus students enjoy all of the advantages of being in MEP with additional opportunities to perform in large ensembles and to enroll in optional elective courses. We offer a wide range of learning opportunities for adults. Music Appreciation classes continue to be a popular choice for music enthusiasts, and for those who want to learn to sing or play an instrument, they can choose from a variety of ensembles and group classes. Adult students can also observe or participate in engaging master classes led by eminent RCS faculty. From beginning guitar to Samba, Carnatic violin to singing, the Royal Conservatory School has options for everyone. We invite you to take advantage of all that the RCM has to offer. Enjoy access to practice facilities, attend free master classes through The Taylor Academy and The Glenn Gould School, and enjoy special ticket offers to selected concerts at our celebrated concert venue, Koerner Hall, which hosts over 100 concerts ranging from an assortment of all genres including, pop, rock, world music, classical and jazz. We are fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated students filling our halls with music throughout the year and look forward to welcoming you! Thank you for your continued support of The Royal Conservatory School, and for making us your music school of choice. With gratitude, Susan Cook Director, The Royal Conservatory School Academic Term 1
