AN INTRODUCTION TO Access Oak Ridge
Meet Gus Baber Gus is the student at Robertsville Middle School who came up with the name Access Oak Ridge. Thanks, Gus! Great idea!
OAK RIDGE, TENNESSEE Steeped in History Manhattan Project U.S. Atomic Energy Commission U.S. Department of Energy o Oak Ridge National Laboratory o Y-12 National Security Complex o Oak Ridge Associated Universities Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Oak Ridge Schools (ORS) EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION SINCE 1943 The children who were placed in (ORS) by scientists, engineers, craftsmen and others who brought their families to Oak Ridge to help win that awful war, were given the best education possible... Then and now o o o o High academic standards Exceptional teachers High quality administrators Engaged parents o Strong community Unprecedented challenges
ORS Digital Vision Empower all Oak Ridge students with equitable access to digital learning opportunities; to innovate, design, collaborate, and ultimately succeed in local and global communities of the future.
We Believe 1. Learning should be student-centered; students should be given a voice and a choice. 2. Students should be challenged with learning opportunities that sustain inquiry. 3. Students should be creative, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and communicative collaborators.
We Believe 4. Teachers should set the stage for students to be engaged in real-world problem solving. 5. As physical education energizes bodies, a digital education energizes minds ready for the future. 6. The future of education and business exists in a digital world. 7. Students are being prepared for jobs that currently do not exist.
We Believe 8. Technology enables students to explore content with greater depth and breadth. 9. The use of technology should allow for new learning tasks that were previously inconceivable. 10. Providing digital tools for our students levels the playing field and offers them opportunities to access a wealth of global information that is not locally accessible.
Strategic Objectives 1. Interact with parents, students, staff, and community through regular, detailed communication and involvement opportunities as we grow and perfect the integration of technology into ORS. 2. Engage teachers and build a comfortable, progressive pathway to grow from initial introduction of technology to redefining classroom instruction allowing previously inconceivable student learning opportunities. 3. Prioritize instructional and financial resources in the most efficient way to fully integrate digital learning opportunities. 4. Deploy and align digital resources based on student needs first. 5. Ensure universal access to digital learning and rapid resolution of hardware and software issues.
Measuring Success Annual Stakeholder Survey Results Number of Instructional Technology Coaches Number of Available Professional Development Opportunities Number of Teacher Leaders Sustained Continual Feedback from Professional Development Teacher Technology Integration Surveys Student Technology Integration Surveys Annual Software Usage Inventory Annual Average Textbook and Classroom Material Cost per Student per Grade Student Technology Integration Survey Percentage of Students that have an ORS Provided Device Percentage of Students with Supplied Devices that are Regularly Engaged as Tracked through Learning Management System and Daily Network Usage Number of Tier 1 Technical Support Personnel Number of Tier 2 and Greater Technical Support Personnel Hardware and Software Issue Resolution Time Student and Teacher Customer Service Survey for Technical Support Services
