1 Why have we changed the Tutor system this year? - Students with similar interests can work together and share ideas and opportunities - We can target opportunities in a more directed way - Often, the Tutor will work closely with the subject teachers, so progress can be more closely monitored. - Tutors are often teaching similar subjects so relationships may already be established - We recognise that the skill sets of a Year 12 tutor and a Year 13 tutor are different and we want to create dedicated areas of specialism

2 The Tutor s role in UCAS/Employment: - Edit and create the reference using subject teachers input - Hold tutorials with the students to help them complete the application form - If applying to university, will send the application form with the student - If applying for employment, will help with the application form and any in-centre assessments The Tutor s role during Year 13: - Offer pastoral and academic support for students - Advise and guide students with their next decisions - Act as a future reference

3 Our week: Monday: Tutor time Tuesday: Briefing Wednesday: Electives Thursday: Tutor time Friday: Free Students are only allowed to book driving lessons on Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes, or in the afternoon if they are free. -We are trialling a new system of tutor time at 13:10-13:25. If students are free period 5, they are free to leave school after registration. - Where students have Independent Study on their timetables, students should be using the study centre. - We advise 3 hours independent study each day. The Study Centre is open from 8am-6pm everyday.

4 Attendance Matters - We are often asked for overall attendance figures for students by future employers (even part-time ones) - We include Registration and Independent Study in our overall figures - Students can still self-authorise absence - Where we have serious concerns you will be notified

5 Peer advice from our now alumni!

6 Argh! There is so Much Work! Make sure time is organised effectively! Talk to friends, tutors and teachers for help Do the work when it is set! Use study periods wisely READ! Be prepared what is coming next in each module? Plan ahead instead of catching up! Get some sleep! LINEAR SUBJECTS REQUIRE STUDENTS TO REVISE BOTH YEARS.

7 Do Not Under-Estimate Year 13! Read around the subject after each lesson and read over their notes to make sure they understand what they have done during the lesson Each student should be carrying out additional research about the subject area Use study periods to do work not sit in the common room Send off for your papers to review performance and use specs, examiner s reports and past papers to help revision It s a balancing act!

8 Have a Plan B Happily, most students get to where they want to go However, a few say that they wish they had formed a Plan B in readiness for seeing their exam results. Students do need to be prepared and willing to go to their Insurance universities this decision needs to be made carefully! Do they have an employer in mind or apprenticeship they want to join instead? Above all, be in Saffron Walden on Results Day August 15 th, 2019!
