3 Test Security Procedures Test security procedures for the Duval County Curriculum Guide Assessments (CGA) follow the Florida Department of Education guidelines, Florida Test Security Statute Examples of prohibited activities: Reading the passages or test items Revealing the passages or test items Copying the passages or test items Interpreting or reading test items or passages for students Changing or otherwise interfering with student responses to test items Copying or reading student responses All personnel are prohibited from examining or copying the test items and/or the contents of student test books and answer documents. The security of all test materials must be maintained before, during, and after the test administration. NOTE: Upon receipt of testing materials, test coordinators should count and record the number of test booklets received. Test Coordinators: Use the TOMAS ordering system to order addition materials. Test Administrator s Responsibilities Before Testing Pencils: All students must use a #2 pencil. NO mechanical pencils. Student Absences: It is necessary to record the names of students who are absent during the test administration. If a student misses one or both parts of a test, it is necessary to schedule a make-up session. Scratch Paper: Students may not write in the test booklets. Therefore they must use scratch paper, such as notebook paper or recycled paper. Used scratch paper is to be collected with the test booklets and answer sheets at the completion of each session. Scratch paper should be returned to your school s Test Coordinator. Cover Sheets: The test administrator will separate all test materials before returning them to the school s Test Coordinator. All TO BE SCORED materials must be separated by grade level. During Testing Distribute Materials: Distribute the appropriate test materials as specified in the scripts. Read Scripts Verbatim: Test administrators are responsible for reading the appropriate scripts VERBATIM to students. For students without a pre-identified answer sheet for a CAST test only, read the Script for Hand-Gridding the Non-Preidentified Student Answer Sheet. When all student grid sections are complete, the test administrator should read the appropriate script for administering the correct CGA (CAST Pre-Test). CGA (CAST) Administration Manual 3
4 Keep Time: The test administrator must keep accurate time for each session. Test administrators should record the starting and stopping times in the areas provided in the script and also display them for students. Supervise Test Administration: While students are working, the test administrator should move around the room and ensure that students are working independently, are working in the correct session, and are marking their answers in the appropriate area with a #2 pencil. NO mechanical pencils.students may not write in their test booklets. (CAST Only) Script for Hand-Gridding the Non-Preidentified Student For students who do not have a pre-gridded answer sheet, you must fill in the demographic information for them, OR you may ask the students to grid the information themselves. For those students who will be completing the information, display your school s name and three-digit school number for their reference. Also display the full name of the Duval CGA or CAST Test that the students will be taking Say Please remove all materials from your desk, except for a sharpened #2 pencil. NO mechanical pencils. Pause to make sure students have cleared their desks before continuing. Say Today you re going to participate in the CAST for. First, I m going to distribute the answer sheets. Don t mark on them until I tell you to do so. You should use only a #2 pencil for marking your answer sheet. If you don t have a #2 pencil, raise your hand and I ll give one to you. Distribute the answer documents for the subject you are administering. Say Look at your answer sheets. Most of you already have the information completed. For those of you with a blank answer sheet, you will be completing information. It is important that you record the information correctly. Listen carefully as I read the instructions, and raise your hand if you have any questions. Mark only in the spaces that I tell you to mark. Look at the information blanks at the top of your answer document. In the blank after STUDENT S NAME, print your last name, first name, and middle initial. In the blank after TEST TITLE, print (Give the name of the test you will be administering reading or mathematics). After SCHOOL NAME, print (Give the name of the school). After GRADE, print (Give the grade level of the test). Pause to answer any questions that students may have. Say Now look at the left side of your answer sheet. After TEST FORM bubble (Give the test form being given). In the section labeled STUDENT NUMBER, write your 8- digit student number by entering one number in each box. Now fill in the corresponding bubble in the column below each number of your student number. Now find the section labeled SCHOOL NUMBER and print (Give the three-digit school number) in the boxes under the heading. Proceed with the administration script. CGA (CAST) Administration Manual 4
5 Script for Administering Paper & Pencil CGA or CAST Assessment Session 1 Before reading the script, verify that you have all of the test booklets that were assigned to you. Distribute the test booklets to the students. Distribute scratch paper (Note: This may be provided or students may furnish their own.) Then, Say You shouldn t have any materials on your desk except your #2 pencil, your CGA (CAST) Test Booklet, answer sheet, and scratch paper. Do not open your test booklets until you are told to do so. Do not write on the test booklet. You may use scratch paper for making notes and writing down information that may help you in answering questions. Do not write in the test booklet. Now you are going to take the CGA (CAST) Session 1. You will have minutes to complete this session. Listen as I read the directions to you. Read each article, story, poem, or problem in this test book. Then choose the best answer to each question that follows. Completely fill in the bubble on the answer sheet that contains the same letter as the answer you choose. If you change your answer, be sure to erase completely. Try to answer each question. It is important to do as well as you can. When you come to the STOP sign, you have finished Session 1. If you complete this session before time is called, go back and check your work in Session 1 ONLY. Don t work in any other session. When you have finished the session and have checked your work, place your answer sheet and scratch paper inside your test booklet, and close your test booklet. Then you must sit quietly until the allotted time has passed. Please raise your hand if you have any questions. After answering all questions, Say Remember, you have minutes to complete Session 1 (or this test), and I will tell you when you have 10 minutes left. You may begin working. Write the start time so that students can see it. Add (time limit) minutes minus 10 minutes for the 10 minute reminder time. Add 10 minutes for the stopping time. Display all of the time deadlines for students. 10 minutes before stopping time, Say You have 10 minutes to complete Session 1 (the test). Remember, do not work in any other session. After 10 more minutes, Say STOP. Put your pencils down and close your test booklets. CGA (CAST) Administration Manual 5

Do not open your test booklets until you are told to do so. You may use scratch paper for making notes and writing down information that may help you in answering questions. Do not write in the test booklet. Now you are going to take Session 2 of CGA or CAST. You will have minutes to complete this session. Now open your test booklet to Session 2, the first page after the STOP sign in the middle of the test booklet. Listen as I read the directions to you. Read each article, story, poem, problem in this test book. Then choose the best answer to each question that follows. Completely fill in the bubble on the answer sheet that contains the same letter as the answer you choose. If you change your answer, be sure to erase completely. Try to answer each question. It is important to do as well as you can. If you complete this session before time is called, go back and check your work in Session 2 ONLY. Don t work in any other session. When you have finished the session and have checked your work, place your answer sheet and scratch paper inside your test booklet, and close your test booklet. 7 Collect all materials and return them to your school s Test Coordinator. Organize your materials from the top down according to the list below: 1. Student answer sheets completed To Be Scored 2. Student answer sheets incomplete Need Make-up 3. Test booklets 4. Scratch paper Script for Administering CGA on the Computer Session 1 Before reading the script, verify that students have logged onto the computer and they are at the desktop. Distribute scratch paper, if needed (Note: This may be provided or students may furnish their own.) Then, Say You shouldn t have any materials on your desk except your #2 pencil and scratch paper. Open Firefox and go to dcps.duvalschools.org/domain/5442 and then click on "testing platform" to log into Insight. (NOTE: Login using the same user name and password that you use for logging into the computer). After you have logged in, you will see a list of tests. Wait for me to tell you the name of the test you will be taking. Today you will be taking the. Find the name of the test on the list. Click Take Test. Your test will require a PIN to access. I will give you the PIN to enter on this screen. Once the PIN is entered, you will be able to take the test. (Distribute PINs to students.) After clicking on Start, question #1 will load. Click on the answer choice, then Next Question to move to the next question. If you change your answer, click on Clear Question and choose a different answer. At any time, you can click on the numbers at the top of the screen to see the questions. After completing the test, you will see: You re at the end! You may return to the test and check your answers or submit your test and close it. You can either 1) Submit Test ; or 2) Return to the test. If you click on Submit Test, you will see: Are you finished? Click on Yes, submit my test. or No, Continue working. When you have completed the test and reviewed your answers, click on Yes, submit my test. You will see: Your test has been sent for grading. Click on Return to the Test List and the test will then show up under Completed Tests with a corresponding grade. Close the browser and log off the computer. You may use scratch paper for making notes and writing down information that may help you in answering questions. Now you are going to take the Test. You will have minutes to complete this session. 8 Listen as I read the directions to you. Read each article, story, poem, or problem in this test. Then choose the best answer to each question that follows. Click on the circle next to the letter choice. If you change your answer, click on Clear Question and choose another answer. Try to answer each question. It is important to do as well as you can. When you come to You re at the end! You may return to the test and check your answers or submit your test and close it. You can either 1) Submit Test ; or 2) Return to the test, you have completed the test. If you complete this session before time is called, go back and check your work. 11 Test Coordinator s Responsibilities Before Testing Test Coordinator will provide Test Administrator with the following materials: CGA or CAST Test Booklets CGA or CAST Answer Documents Scratch paper or directions to use students notebook paper #2 pencils Test Administration Manual Other Responsibilities: Ensure implementation of test administration accommodations for students with disabilities and ELL students. Plan for providing test administrators with additional materials during test administration. If you need additional materials FAX in Additional Material Order form to After Testing It is the Test Coordinator s responsibility to package the materials correctly for return to the district s Testing Office. Test booklets are to be stored at your school between the first and second administrations of the test. The security of all test materials must be maintained before, during, and after the test administration, so it is very important to keep testing booklets locked in a secure location. To Be Scored (CGA) Scan documents at school using scanning instructions Tutorials: Return ALL scan documents. To Be Scored (CAST) Check hand gridded documents for accuracy Place To Be Scored answer sheets in a box/envelope Hand Deliver to Testing # 3003, main building # 3001, or other drop-off locations offered Not to Be Scored (District Coordinator Only Label) Return invalidated or unused pre-id answer sheets, used scratch paper, and written in test booklets to #3003, Testing.
