1 Unit 3 DIGITAL ANIMATION Unit description This unit is designed to accredit understanding of the creation of interactive digital. Candidates will understand how to use the digital program to inform the planning process and to create an which contains interactivity. This interactivity will include buttons, rollovers, scenes, playback and the control of media. Candidates will also understand how to import and edit sounds into digital, how to optimise digital for publishing and further develop their skills in planning, testing and evaluating their own work. Learning outcomes A candidate following a programme of learning leading to this unit will be able to: Investigate the digital environment to inform the planning process Plan a digital to a client brief Create the interactive digital Evaluate the completed Recommended prior learning There are no requirements for prior learning. However, candidates may find it beneficial to have completed Level 2 Certificate for imedia Users - Unit 3 Digital Animation. Recommended guided learning hours The recommended guided learning hours for this unit is 60 hours. Entry restrictions There are no prohibited combinations of entry. 2 UNIT 3 DIGITAL ANIMATION Assessment objectives Knowledge, skills and understanding 1 Investigate the digital environment to inform the planning process a) investigate techniques types of (eg time lapse photography, modelling) techniques (eg movement, morphing, fading, masking, onion-skinning) the use of in the media (eg entertainment, advertising) maintain up-to-date knowledge and awareness of current technologies, languages, tools and best practice that are relevant to interactive media product development. b) investigate the use of assets in a digital c) investigate the use of animating movement 2 Plan a digital to a client brief available software applications suitable file sizes and formats software drawing tools & features (eg selection, line, lasso, text, shapes, brush, fills, gradients, eraser, colour) sourcing from libraries (eg buttons, graphics, video) importing other assets (eg images, sounds) incorporating video available software applications key frames on a timeline effects (eg shape and motion tweening/guides, fading, masking,) purpose and use of scenes and frame labels (eg create scenes, marking using labels, transitions) appropriate file formats suitable plug-ins and players a) plan the according to a brief planning methods to include storyboard and visualisation or conceptualisation identify duration and frame rate design principles for composition identify parameters and constraints that influence choices regarding asset manipulation, file formats, compression techniques meet client timescales and budgets identifying solutions to meet client needs b) develop and use a project plan identify key tasks identify resources identify milestones/critical dates identify completion dates identify contingency plans 3 Create the interactive digital a) obtain assets for use in the digital suitable file sizes and formats sources types (eg images, sounds, videos) prepare and optimise assets for use b) create and animate movement create a file for the position key frames on the timeline 32 OCR Level 3 Certificate/Diploma for imedia Users

4 Assessment Forms of assessment Assessment will take the form of practical activities which are locally assessed by the centre and externally moderated by OCR. Centres can use either an OCR-set assignment or one which has been locally devised but centres must ensure that these allow candidates to achieve all the assessment objectives. For centre devised assignments please submit a copy of centre devised assignments. This may be stored as a resource from tutors against a unit prior to assigning to candidates. Please see the MAPs Tutor Guidance document for further information. In order to achieve a pass in this unit, candidates must demonstrate skills in each assessment objective. Assessment tasks Candidates are required to complete tasks that address all of the assessment objectives and evidence must be available that shows where and how the assessment objectives have been achieved and explain why in certain situations decisions were made. At Level 3, it is expected that candidates will further develop their knowledge of copyright and intellectual property. This should include what copyright is, how it protects a variety of different work by the authors and the legal restrictions on the use of copyright material. The use of copyright law to protect the candidates own original work should also be included together with the use of Copyright marks and statements. An example would be: Copyright Author_name. When candidates submit their own work for assessment, they also acknowledge that permission to reproduce the work by OCR for educational purposes will not be unreasonably withheld. Evidence Candidates will be required to complete OCR-provided on-line forms, to identify where and how the assessment objectives have been met. Additionally, candidates will be required to provide a planning and review document and a full working. Narrative explaining actions and decisions with screen captures also evidences candidate knowledge and understanding may be included within the planning and review document. For assessment objectives that are difficult to evidence, candidates must provide a narrative and/or screen captures possibly within the Planning and Evaluation document. Observation testimony is not acceptable at this level. All work must be submitted in a PC compatible format. An evidence checklist is completed as candidates upload their work to the e-portfolio. Tutors and candidates must use these checklists to record achievement of assessment objectives. It is useful if the candidate references the submitted evidence to show how the evidence meets the assessment objectives with page references etc. Tutors should ensure that files uploaded to the e-portfolio are of a size and format appropriate for submission to a web-based server making effective use of optimisation and/or compression techniques. 34 OCR Level 3 Certificate/Diploma for imedia Users
