1 Integrated Math 1 Syllabus and Expectations Instructor Mr. Bialas COURSE WORK: The course work may include but not limited to the following: Integrated Math 1 A (1 st Semester) Patterns of Change Linear Functions Quadratic Functions Exponential Functions Integrated Math 1 B (2 nd Semester) Patterns in Shapes Patterns of Data Patterns in Chance TEXTBOOK: Core-Plus Mathematics Course 1 by Glencoe Attendance, attitude and completed homework are directly tied to good grades. ATTENDANCE: If you must be absent it is solely your responsibility to make up the work. Please ask about make-up work before your absence if this is at all possible, especially if you will be gone for an extra-curricular event! All make-up work consisting of tests or quizzes must be completed either before or after school. School policy states that students must make up the work missed for an excused absence. Students will have at least as many excused school days as they were absent, plus one additional day to complete make-up work. If the makeup work is not completed in the allocated time, a late grade will be given for the assignments. If you feel there are extenuating circumstances, please visit with me on such matters. MATERIALS: You will need a 3-ring binder with loose-leaf paper and tabbed dividers (3), a pencil and a textbook for class every day. Graphing calculators will be proved if needed. HOMEWORK/CLASS WORK: You will receive daily assignments and may receive additional homework assignments. Homework assignments are designed to develop further understanding or practice new skills. All homework that is not handed in on the day it is due is considered LATE*. It can be turned infor half credit. All late work must be turned in at midterm/quarter to receive any credit. Homework assignments are graded on completion and quality of work. All work is to be done in pencil. If the work is not completed in pencil the student will be asked to rewrite it. Please be responsible in doing your homework, so you can develop an understanding of the math content.

2 EXAMS: The tests and quizzes will consist of problems very similar to those in the homework assignments. All exams will be announced and the student is expected to prepare accordingly. Any questions over the exam material are expected to be addressed before the start of class on the day of the exam. 3 Integrated Math 1 Expectations Instructor Mr. Bialas CLASS PROCEDURE: Every student is to be seated and working on the warm up exercise when the bell rings. Class will begin promptly. Listening is very important to successfully completing this class; listening to the instructor and classmates in a respectful manner provides a better learning environment for everyone. I will expect that all students remain quiet while the teacher is providing instruction. Questions and discussion is strongly encouraged but, it is important that these be related to the concepts that we are covering in class. Treat others how you want to be treated, foul language will not be allowed in the freshmen house. No food or beverage will be allowed! Only water in a clear bottle is allowed in class. You will be expected to use the whole class period for academic work such as participation in learning activities, daily assignments and homework assignments. TARDY: If you are not in the classroom when the bell rings you will be counted TARDY. ABSENCES: Class absences will be dealt with according to the school handbook. It is the student s responsibility to get the make-up work from homework hotline or the teacher. For excused absences, students are allowed one day for every day absent plus one additional day to make up classwork. BATHROOM BREAKS: You have plenty of time to use the restroom and water fountain between classes. Students will not be allowed bathroom breaks during the first 15 minutes or the last 15 minutes of class. Only one student at a time will be allowed a break and they must take the pink pass. The student will go directly to the restroom or drinking fountain and return. Abuse or misuse of bathroom privileges will result in their revocation. CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION: Classroom participation is part of your overall grade. Many of the learning activities are collaborative by design and require participation by all students. DISMAL FROM CLASS: The teacher, not the bell, dismisses Students from class. Students will be dismissed when all learning materials are put away; everyone is in their seat and sitting quietly. Standing at the door waiting for the bell will not be tolerated. CLASSROOM MATERIALS: Textbooks, Calculators, computers, drawing tools, whiteboards and other learning materials provided to you are to be used for learning activities. Purposely damaging or misusing these items will incur corrective action in accordance with the school s discipline matrix.

4 PERSONAL ELECTRICAL DEVICES: Headphones, cell phones, and other electrical devices are not allowed. They will be taken away if seen in class and taken to the Freshman House Office and may be reclaimed in accordance with the school s policy on these items. ORGANIZATION: Organization is essential to student success. You will receive a number of handouts, notes, and assignments that you will need to manage for this class. You will need to store these materials in a binder with tabbed dividers. Instructions will be provided on how to organize you binders and you will be expected to bring it to class every day. I will be periodically check and grade you binders.
