36 Before the exam Science Practicals are held in the School Lab. Material for this paper is provided by the School. Candidates are not allowed to share it. The Science teacher should be in the room doing the same paper, his/her work must not be seen by students.

38 IGCSE Literature (0488 Spanish) Open Books Paper (27 schools) Supervisors are allowed and must open the question paper envelope 1 hour before the scheduled start of the exam. The Literature teacher or a member of staff should be there to help. The aim is: a) To check that texts have no notes, underlining or highlighting b) To find the passages quoted in the paper, in the different editions and inform them, in writing, on the board.

41 Exam Day Once candidates are seated 3 types of instructions to be read: o answering on question paper o on answer sheets or booklets o on multiple choice answer sheets - see What to say to candidates in an exam in the Manual for Supervisors.
42 Exam Day - once candidates are seated o Two members of staff should check that the correct Question paper packet will be opened o Open the question paper envelope in front of candidates and hand out the papers. o Tell them to read the instructions on the front of the question paper. o If an erratum notice has been issued for the paper, read it.
43 Multiple choice papers Ask candidates to check their pre-printed details and sign in the space provided to show that they are correct. Read the instructions on the front of the answer sheet. For each absent candidate fill in the appropriate lozenge on their answer sheet using a pencil, and include the answer sheet in candidate nº order, in the return envelope.
44 Multiple choice papers Invigilation arrangements are slightly different: Multiple choice answer sheets are provided for each candidate (in an open envelope with exams material). Desks as widely spread out as necessary for candidates not to be able to see someone else s work (1.25 mts or more). Distribute answer sheets on each desk before the students enter the room.
45 During the exam Complete the Attendance Register/s and Seating Plan/s (as in the samples) Mark location of door and windows!!
46 During the exam Respond as quickly as possible when a candidate raises his hand for help: Only answer questions about information on the front of the paper. Don t give any advice to the candidate and do not answer questions on the content of the paper.

50 During the exam Emergency situations Phone ESSARP or Paula immediately! If there is an emergency e.g. a fire alarm: Evacuate the room. Leave the scripts and question papers in the exam room. Tell the candidates to leave the room calmly and in silence. Once the room is empty lock the door if possible.
51 During the exam Emergency situations On your return indicate on the scripts the point where the emergency occurred and note the length of the interruption. Allow the candidates the full time. Record the details of the situation for the exams officer s report to Cambridge. Remember! health and safety are the most important things.
52 During the exam Malpractice Under exam conditions candidates are not allowed to: use any unauthorised materials, copy or attempt to copy another person s work, talk to other candidates, have a mobile device on them, whether on or off.
53 During the exam malpractice Read point 5.9, page 70 onwards. ICT Practical papers: many malpractice cases occur in these exams. Please have a meeting with the School s ICT Supervisor and go over the regulations, and what can and cannot be available to students. If you suspect a candidate of malpractice: o Warn them that they may be excluded from the exam. o Record what has happened and keep the evidence if possible. o Call for help if necessary.
54 At the end of the exam Tell candidates when they have five minutes left. Announce when the exam finishes. Tell them to stop writing. Remind them that they remain under exam conditions until their scripts have been collected and they have left the room or until the Key Time has passed.
55 At the end of the exam Ask them to check that they have completed all the necessary information on the answer booklets or loose sheets of paper. Ask them to name, number and attach loose sheets of paper with the string you have provided. Rough work should be included at the back of all the answer sheets, neatly crossed out.
56 At the end of the exam collecting the scripts Dismiss the candidates row by row, in silence. COUNT THE SCRIPTS! Put scripts in candidate number order and top copy of attendance register in CIE envelope - label according to paper.
57 At the end of the exam collecting the scripts Keep a copy of Attendance Register and the Seating Plan in the plastic envelope in the safe. Sign across the seal, and place in safe, in a manner which indicates which scripts are to be collected by or sent to ESSARP.

61 At the end of the exam 24 Hour-Rule For CIE examinations, all the left over question papers or question booklets should be given to the School for future use. This can only be done after 24 hours have passed since the end of the paper in question. In the case of ICT Practicals (IGCSE and AS/A Level), the 24 Hour-Rule does not apply! All leftovers are to be kept in the safe until 30 November.
62 CIE Special Considerations Inform Head of Centre Tell schools that the Form can be downloaded from our website If more than 50% of the exam missed, the School can request Refund and Withdrawal
63 After Exams For CIE exams, question papers can only be seen by the staff after 24 hours. For Cambridge English (ESOL) exams, all material must be returned to ESSARP, not seen or copied by any means, by any member of staff.
64 Pick up During the Examination Sessions ESSARP will collect answer scripts on a weekly basis. The School will be informed of the day in which the pick-up will come round. Please arrange a clear way by which the School can tell which scripts to return to ESSARP.

Empty pale blue envelopes - Make sure no answer scripts are left in the safe! NOTE: If the School takes Cambridge English exams, please send the Last Despatch when all exams are over
66 Inspections Unannounced inspections will be carried out by a CIE Inspection Team. They will check premises, security of exam material and conduct of examinations. Make sure the school and you are complying with all regulations.
67 Don t forget to Remain calm and vigilant. Prepare in advance Be aware of Cambridge invigilation regulations. Keep a written record of any unusual or relevant situations: who/what/when and complete the Supervisors Report /supervisors/
68 Always make sure that the safe is empty at the end of the exam session (CIE and ESOL).
